Dark Horse Books, Critical Role, and Amazon MGM Studios have revealed the third volume in the hit Whitestone Chronicles series, The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles Volume 3—The Briarwoods. This final graphic novel in The Whitestone Chronicles series is written by Marieke Nijkamp, with art by Aviv Or, colors by Diana Sousa, and letters by Comicraft. This set of interconnected graphic novels explores more of the world of The Legend of Vox Machina Season 1 and shines light on the off-screen storylines of the show.

How did Delilah Briarwood come to be known as a powerful necromancer?

As a student at the Alabaster Lyceum, Delilah was a strategic and cunning mage with deadly ambitions. Her tactical elegance and cold confidence eventually led her to a position at the Soltryce Academy, which provided her a place to conduct her research as well as the opportunity to rub elbows with the rich and powerful of the Dwendalian Empire. With her unwavering focus, everything was going to plan…that is, until she met Sylas Briarwood.

They quickly fell in love and were married, but their life of wedded bliss is tragically upended when Sylas falls ill and succumbs to his rare disease before Delilah can find a cure. Heartbroken and beyond desperate, Delilah turns to a powerful being that ultimately reunites her with her soulmate…with a few monstrous caveats.

Dark Horse Books, Critical Role, and Amazon MGM Studios have revealed the second volume in the hit Whitestone Chronicles series, The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles Volume 2—Cassandra. This second graphic novel is written by Marieke Nijkamp, with art by Travis Hymel, colors by Diana Sousa, and letters by Comicraft. 

Critically injured and seemingly abandoned by her brother after the murder of her family, Cassandra de Rolo finds herself at the mercy of Whitestone’s usurpers. Much to her shock, Delilah and Sylas Briarwood treat her with the utmost care—almost like a daughter—as she recovers within the relative safety of her own childhood bedroom. On edge and suspicious of their motives, Cassandra adapts to survive while processing the trauma of her family’s demise and Percy’s abandonment.

The Briarwoods delight in parading Cassandra around the city in an attempt to convince the despairing populace of their benevolence. Instead of becoming their paragon of obedience, Cassandra unwittingly becomes the guiding light of the rebellion attempting to rescue Whitestone, particularly in the eyes of her childhood friend and rebel leader, Archie. Cassandra vows to do whatever she can to help her beloved home, but are the ghosts of her past powerful enough to overcome the ghosts in her present, or will the Briarwoods’ brainwashing drown out all reason?

Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ Criminal ordered to series by Amazon

Will the beloved comic series Criminal be the next hit? Prime Video has given a series order to Criminal. It’s based on the award winning comic series by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Brubaker penned the pilot script. The series will be showrun by Jordan Harper.

Criminal is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and has been fast tracked for development which began in 2023. Things were delayed due to the WGA strike.

Criminal is an amazing series of comics which each stand on their own but also connect in some ways too. While you can pick up and enjoy any volume, if you’ve read them all, you appreciate it all more. It’s described by Brubaker as an “interweaving saga of several generations of families tied together by crimes and murders of the past.”

Brubaker and Harper will executive produce along with Phillips, Sarah Carbiener, Phillip Barnett, and Legendary Television.
