Star Trek Library Collection Vol. 1

CBS Announces New Star Trek Television Series

star-trek-reboot-logoStar Trek is going where it’s been before, the television screen. Timed for its 50th anniversary producer Alex Kurtzman developing a new take on Star Trek according to The Hollywood Reporter. According to THR, the series has been picked up and will premiere in January 2017. The series will then also been available on the digital platform CBS All Access as well as video-on-demand.

CBS All Access is a service for $5.99, which provides various series as well as local networks. It also has the previous Star Trek series.

The new series will introduce new characters while continuing to explore contemporary themes much like the original franchise series. Star Trek celebrates its 50th anniversary on September 8, 2016, it debuted on that date in 1966.

The franchise was rebooted in 2009 with the big screen Star Trek which was followed by Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 and Star Trek Beyond in 2016. IDW Publishing has a comic series based in the current movie continuity that continues their adventures.

It is unknown how this new series will fit into continuity, but a search is under way for a writer to take it on.
