Game. Set. Match. Challengers wins the weekend box office as Civil War and Abigail tumble

Challengers

It was another rough weekend at the box office as only one film made over $10 million as the overall box office gross remained close to the previous week. Challengers won the weekend while last weekend’s top two films, Civil War and Abigail, dropped hard.

Challengers opened with a little over $15 million to win the weekend domestic box office. The film also grossed $10 million internationally for an opening of a little over $25 million.

Unsung Hero debuted in second place with an estimated $7.8 million. No international gross has been reported.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire held on to third place for the second weekend in a row and added $7.2 million to its domestic total which is now $181.7 million. Over the week, it added $24.1 million to its international total to bring that to $337.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $519.4 million.

In its third week, Civil War dropped to fourth place from first for two weekends in a row. The movie lost 37.6% and grossed an estimated $7 million to bring its domestic gross to $56.2 million. Internationally, the movie added $10.8 million to its total to bring that to $15.4 million Worldwide, the movie has grossed $71.6 million.

Abigail rounded out the top five after debuting in second the previous week. The movie dipped 49% and grossed an estimated $5.3 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $18.8 million. It added $4.9 million internationally to bring that to $9.9 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $28.6 million.

In comic film news…

Spy x Family Code: White dropped 77.2% to come in at #13 with $1.1 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $7.1 million. Internationally, the film added just under $500,000 over the week and has grossed $47 million for a worldwide total of $54.1 million.

Madame Web‘s domestic gross remains at $43.8 million. Internationally, the film has grossed just under $56.5 million. The movie sits at $100.3 million.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training remained at $17.7 million domestically. Internationally, the film added about $70,000 over the week and has grossed $26.7 million. Worldwide the movie has grossed $44.3 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 65 films earning $64,150,402 from 39,792 theaters. That’s a dip from the previous weekend’s $65,585,820 from 37,444 theaters and 67 films. The average earning was $1,612.14 which is a decrease from the previous weekend’s $1,751.57.

Civil War remains at the top of a rough weekend box office

Civil War remained at the top of the box office even after dropping 56.4% from its opening weekend to be one of only two films to barely gross over $10 million. Civil War grossed an estimated $11.1 million to bring its domestic gross to $44.9 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $4.6 million so far for a worldwide total of $49.5 million after two weeks.

Abigail debuted in second place with $10.2 million domestically and a little over $5 million internationally for a worldwide debut of a little over $15.2 million.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire slipped to third place grossing $9.5 million domestically to bring that total to $171.6 million. Internationally, the film added $33.7 million over the week to lift that total to $313.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $485.2 million.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare debuted in fourth place with $9 million at the domestic box office.

Spy x Family Code: White debuted in fifth place with $4.9 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, the film has grossed $46.5 million for a worldwide total of $51.4 million.

In comic film news…

Madame Web‘s domestic gross remains at $43.8 million. Internationally, the film added about $100,000 over the week and has grossed just under $56.5 million. The movie sits at $100.3 million.

Z2 and King Diamond Announce Limited Edition Abigail 18th Century Hearse and Platinum Edition of Abigail Graphic Novel

Z2 Comics and King Diamond have announced a Platinum Edition Bundle of Abigail, the previously announced graphic novelization of the iconic 1987 album. The Abigail Platinum Edition Bundle includes a 15-inch long model of the 18th-century hearse featured on the cover art from Studio Dzyan’s Torbjörn Jörgensen and Thomas Holm—representing the titular Black Horsemen from the album’s ninth and final track.

Set for release in late November 2021, King Diamond’s Abigail exhumes the concept album as a graphic novel, written by King Diamond with Dan Watters (Home Sick PilotsLuciferArkham City) and drawn by Damien Worm (The October FactionDark Souls). The bundle also includes art prints  and greeting cards illustrated by Damien Worm, Dicky Candra, and Torbjörn Jörgensen

King Diamond’s Abigail recounts the story of  Miriam Natias and Jonathan La Fey, a couple who inherit a family mansion in 1845. Unfortunately, their new homestead is inhabited by the ghost of a mummified infant adamant on reclaiming its life.
