Smoketown is in Development as a Feature Film With Director/Writer Vaughn Stein

Scout Comics and Entertainment has announced that its critically-acclaimed crime/thriller series Smoketown by writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Scott Van Domelen is now in development with writer/director Vaughn Stein. Vaughn’s most recent film, Terminal, starring Margot Robbie, Simon Pegg, and Mike Myers, is currently in post-production.

Smoketown is a Tarantino-esque story that revolves around an American soldier in the days leading up to his murder. Jumping around in time, each chapter reveals a new facet of the soldier’s life (and death), and the many people he affected, before his time in the Middle East, during, and after.

In the release Stein said:

Smoketown totally gripped me from the moment I first read it. It’s an incredible story; dark, twisted and utterly brilliant. I am extremely proud and excited to be bringing Smoketown to the screen with Scout Comics. It’s going to be a stunning movie.

Johnson added:

After seeing and reading Vaughn’s other work, I couldn’t be happier to have him on board. Smoketown is a story with intensely flawed characters, people who fell between the cracks, and Vaughn gets that. He’s the perfect choice to tell a story like this. I can’t wait for people to see his vision of our story.

All-Ages Marvel Super Hero Adventures from Jim McCann Starting this April

This April, Marvel Comics is launching a new all-ages series Marvel Super Hero Adventures being written by Jim McCann with art by Dario Brizuela. The first issue will have a cover by Gurihiru. Aimed at young readers, they’ll find there’s no hero too big (or too small) to share an adventure with!

The five-issue series features all the classic action and adventures of Marvel’s greatest heroes in kid-friendly versions. Through stories that touch upon aspirational themes of friendship, helping others, and heroism, preschool kids and young readers will have a gateway into the Marvel Universe.

In the announcement, McCann said:

Marvel Super Hero Adventures is a chance to introduce the great heroes of Marvel to a brand new generation in exciting stories with lessons, adventures, and action that readers of all ages have come to expect from the House of Ideas! Each issue features Spider-Man teaming up with characters both classic, such as Black Panther and Doctor Strange, and popular new faces like Ms. Marvel. Together they battle villains like Doc Ock, Taskmaster, Venom and more. This is the book you can pick up and share with anyone from your kids to your friends!

The comic series is a great way for kids to improve their reading skills as well as provides material for parents to share and read to their children. The goal is to entertain and inspire with the series. The first adventure starts with Spider-Man swinging into Wakanda!

AfterShock Signs Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler to Multi-Series Deal. Her Infernal Descent Launches this April with Kyle Charles.

AfterShock Comics has announced Her Infernal Descent, a new series from Zac Thompson, Lonnie Nadler, and Kyle Charles. The series begins this April. AfterShock has also signed Thompson and Nadler to a multi-book deal which involves at least three new series over the next several years. It’s the first long-term deal with a writer AfterShock has entered in to. The deal was due to their first projects, Relay and Her Infernal Descent. Thompson and Nadler are the duo behind The Dregs published by Black Mask Studios.

Her Infernal Descent is a tale of loss told in five parts. Any good mom would march through the inferno of HELL to get her family back.

Unable to cope with the burden of grief, a middle-aged mom descends the nine circles of hell to retrieve her forsaken family. Guided by the ghosts of William Blake and Agatha Christie, this no-nonsense mother journeys deep into a bizarre underworld filled with celebrity sinners, surreal landscapes, and absurd tasks. Her Infernal Descent is a retelling of Dante’s Inferno that updates the themes for a modern audience.

This is HELL like youve never seen before.
