Pantomime #1

(W) Christopher Sebela (A) David Stoll (C) Dearbhla Kelly

Haley and her brother Max are all alone after their mother’s death and a fresh start at Wayfair Academy, a special needs boarding school, isn’t what she expected. Normally, Haley would withdraw back into herself, but when she finds a family with other deaf kids, she embraces her new life and begins to come out of her shell. Until one night where the group dips their toes into crime, and the thrill is too much to leave behind. Though they soon find out by stealing from the wrong person, that this world isn’t for kids. With no one to turn to but each other, they will have to make a choice, one where no one will come out the same on the other side.

Kristen Gudsnuk’s Henchgirl, published by Scout Comics, is in Development for Disney’s Freeform

Henchgirl

Scout Comics & Entertainment Inc. has announced that Henchgirl by Kristen Gudsnuk is now in development as a live-action television series at Freeform/Disney with screenwriter Alex Ebel attached to adapt.  The District and Scout Comics are attached to produce.  Lindsey Shockley is attached as showrunner.

You can catch our interview with Gudsnuk on our podcast Graphic Policy Radio from 2017.

Henchgirl, written and drawn by Gudsnuk, is the story of Mary Posa, who hates her job. She works long hours for little pay, no insurance, and, worst of all, no respect. Her coworkers are jerks and her boss doesn’t appreciate her. He also happens to be a supervillain. Cursed with a conscience, Mary would give anything to be something other than a Henchgirl! Beyond Henchgirl, Gudsnuk’s other works include the Making Friends graphic novel series published by Scholastic Books; the miniseries Modern Fantasy, written by Rafer Roberts; and the Minecraft graphic novel series Wither Without You, published by Dark Horse.

Alex Ebel is a genre-blending dramedy writer currently staffed on the reboot of the beloved 90s series Are You Afraid of the Dark for Nickelodeon. Her TV credits include The Astronauts, Deadly Class, and Blood Drive. Ebel is currently adapting Babysitter’s Oven for Nickelodeon. Her psychological thriller feature Mother of All Evil for MarVista Entertainment goes into production later this year.

Lindsey Shockley is onboard Henchgirl to EP and showrun. Shockley has been an executive producer on the ABC series Black-ish and Mixed-ish, has been nominated for three Emmy awards, and has developed multiple TV projects with ABC studios.

Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad are Executive Producing under their District banner.  They currently serve as EPs on NBC’s Superstore and Freeform’s The Bold Type.  ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios, is the studio. Elias Gertler brought the project to the company and will oversee for The District.

Paul Scheer and Nick Giovannetti Launch an Exclusive Aliens vs Parker “Creator’s Cut” on Macroverse!

Macroverse bills itself as “the next generation digital comics platform” and has announced the release of the new “Creator’s Cut” of Aliens Vs. Parker, a sci-fi action comedy from actor-comedian Paul Scheer and writer Nick Giovannetti with art from Manuel Bracchi.

As long-term writing partners and lifelong comic book fanatics, Scheer and Giovannetti conceived Aliens Vs. Parker together as their entrance into the world of Comics, the duo is now utilizing the creative freedom of the Macroverse TapStory format and publishing platform to revisit the original story from top to bottom and release a new version with more laughs, adult themes, and over the top tongue-in-cheek humor than ever before.

Set in the not-so-distant future, the story follows a group of deep space slacker delivery guys spending their days doing what they always do: getting sent all over the universe to mindlessly load and unload cargo bays. In the hierarchy of cool space jobs, these guys are on the bottom rung. Their only relief is playing WARFIGHTER, a massive multiplayer online game, against punk kids from back home and seeing if there’s anything good to eat in the mess hall. That is, until they have to deliver a package marked “classified” to a planet more dangerous than they’ve ever faced before. The rag-tag team of slackers, malcontents, and gamers are then forced to put all their skills (or lack thereof) to good use simply to stay alive.

The Aliens Vs. Parker trade paperback was originally released by BOOM Studios in 2014.
