Update: JPMorgan and Sparkle Pop’s Time to Respond to Questions over their Interest in Diamond Inventory Extended

The Diamond chapter 11 process is now chapter 7 and with that, it creates a ripple across numerous related lawsuits. One such group of lawsuits involves JPMorgan‘s “Validity, Priority or Extent of a Lien or Other Interest in Property.” In question is inventory that Diamond has that is consignment goods provided by publishers. The goods are being held in a warehouse controlled by Sparkle Pop. It is before the court as to figure out who actually owns the inventory. Does Diamond, who can then sell it and pay back its creditors, like JPMorgan? Also, what claim does JPMorgan have as far as the inventory since the inventory was used as collateral by Diamond to get a loan?

The question concerns multiple lawsuits spanning multiple publishers with all of the various court documents similar. JPMorgan now has until February 16, 2026 to respond to this.

Update: Sparkle Pop‘s time to respond to the same complaint has also been extended to February 16. The order is below.

DreamHaven Books and Comics Goes Viral in ICE Defiance

Greg Ketter of DreamHaven Books has become a bit of an internet celebrity over the weekend. The 70 year old Ketter was interviewed about the occupation, terrorism, and murder of a US citizen by ICE in Minneapolis where he cursed them out stating “I’m seventy years old and I’m fucking angry!”

Protester in Minneapolis just before disappearing in gas: "Fuck you! Stop. Damn! I'm 70 years old and I'm fuckin' angry!"

Aaron Rupar (@atrupar.com) 2026-01-24T17:18:20.136Z

In an interview with MS Now on Saturday with clashes between protesters and federal agents going on, Ketter was caught in the smoke-filled streets where he cursed out federal agents.

During the moment, tear gas was fired at the protesters including Ketter. As the HuffPost article described the situation goes on:

Just then, a loud boom went off nearby, and demonstrators could be heard chanting in the distance. The man then walked over to a pallet of plastic water bottles and took one out before the waves of tear gas smoke enveloped him entirely.

He then began coughing before walking off into the smoke and disappearing.

That led to a now iconic photo of Ketter within the remaining smoke from a recent attack by the federal government against its own citizens.

On their Facebook page, Ketter recounted the situation:

Wow. So much to address.

First things first. FUCK ICE. They murdered Alex Pretti on Saturday in cold blood. I won’t accept any other explanation. The young man is dead because of Donald Trump, Kristi Noem and the rest of that ghoulish group.

Because of this I was angry enough to go to the site of Alex’s murder to pay respects and witness for myself the ICE thugs who support these actions. I got there about an hour after the murder and went right up to the intersection that ICE had taped off and stood guard. There were perhaps 50-100 of them and several hundred observers/protesters milling around. Some were right up front yelling and swearing. I became one of them.

No one made a move toward the agents but suddenly several canisters of tear gas were thrown into the crowd. A number of agents broke the tape and ran after people along a side street to my left for no reason I could see. I stood where I was as more tear gas and flash bombs (they were loud) were thrown at us. There was shooting, probably pepper balls. Most people had backed off but a few had gas masks and stayed near the line. I had no gas mask and I don’t know what made me stay but I did. And I was screaming even louder.

I was screaming and sobbing, not from gas, but from Fury and sadness. I don’t think the gas had affected me at this point. A gas-masked camera man had been circling around near me asked if I was OK. I was physically fine but I had snapped. I was so angry that people hired by our government could do this to innocent people. Hence the rant which seems to have gone viral.

People have been so kind – from the concerned people there at the scene offering me help to the many, many thousands who have watched the video and offered their support. Those who ordered books from us (it will take a bit to get things sorted out) and eventually crashed our website (working on that too), I thank you. People discovered the old GOFUNDME we had after the riots after George Floyd was murdered and our store was heavily damaged and have been making donations there. I’m greatly touched by that but I would like to offer that money to our local food shelves if donors wouldn’t mind. The store is intact and doing well and the money should go to a greater cause.

I’ll have more for you later today and in upcoming days. Thank you all and stay strong. I’m still fucking angry! Greg

DreamHaven Books and Comics was established in 1977 by Ketter in Minneapolis and the oldest continuously running science fiction, fantasy, and horror bookstore in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area. In 1999 it was awarded the Will Eisner Spirit of Retail Award and in this act of defiance, probably deserves more recognition and awards for showing off the best of the comic book community.

You can support the store by purchasing directly from their site but due to overwhelming support, their store has had issues keeping up with the flood of traffic. Follow them on Facebook as well.

Also, Fuck ICE.

Mercy takes the weekend box office with anemic opening

Mercy

Mercy was the top of the weekend box office knocking Avatar: Fire and Ash from the position which it held since it opened. Mercy grossed $11.1 million domestically and no international returns have been reported. While first place might seem good, the film had a reported budget of $60 million. Overall, first place is good, but that amount is rough and it’ll be a tough run to be profitable. Around the same time last year Flight Risk topped the box office with $12 million, so it’s not exactly a great weekend historically.

Avatar: Fire and Ash came in second place with an estimated $7 million to bring its domestic gross to $378.5 million. Over the week, it grossed $44.9 million internationally to bring that to just above $1.000 billion. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.379 billion. It’s far short where the previous two films wound up and unlikely to reach the original’s $2.924 billion and sequel’s $2.334 billion. We might finally know the answer to “when does a film gross a billion dollars and be considered a failure?”

Zootopia 2 remained in third place with $5.7 million domestically which has now totaled $401.4 million. Internationally, it grossed $29.6 million over the week to bring that to $1.343 billion, guaranteeing we’ll see a third film.

The Housemaid held on to fourth place with $4.2 million to bring its domestic gross to $115.5 million. Over the week, it grossed $33.8 million internationally where it has now grossed $102.4 million. The worldwide total is $217.9 million.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple cropped to fifth place after debuting in second place last weekend. It saw a 71.2% drop grossing $3.6 million to bring that to $20.8 million. Internationally, it grossed $9.2 million over the week to bring that to $25.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $46.1 million.

In sort of comic related, Return to Silent Hill opened with $3.3 million domestically. If a movie isn’t promoted, does it make any money?

In other comic related movies…

All You Need Is Kill which grossed around $100,000 domestically over the week and now$652,684 total. There’s no international gross.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution remained at $16.6 million domestically. Internationally, it also remained at $24.9 million for a worldwide gross of just over $41.5 million.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc remained at $43.4 million domestically. Internationally, the movie gained about $600,000 over the week and has grossed $116.5 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $159.9 million.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie – Infinity Castle has grossed $134.5 million domestically. Internationally, the movie added about $200,000 and is at $588.1 million. Its worldwide gross is $722.6 million.

Numbers have 71 movies grossing $54,792,025 from 40,521 theaters for an average of $1,352.19. That compared to last week’s 66 movies grossing $85,674,336 from 43,575 theaters for an average of $1,966.14.

The Beauty #3 is interesting but feels like it’s starting to stretch things out a bit too much

Agent Crayton can’t outrun his past, not as long as The Abernathy knows what he did and holds him in their grip. Is the price they are attempting to extract from him too high, or can he live with the harm helping them will do to the people around him?

Things aren’t so bad for Kelvin Frost, however. The weather man has gotten the Beauty, and he’s already discovering how the disease can change your life in a myriad of ways–from the gorgeous girl he’s now having a fling with to the police knocking on his door wondering what he knows about the death of the man who helped him get the virus.

You see, it’s a disease that comes with consequences, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting to get it. Or seeing a necessity for it. Whether you’re an aging football star like Skottie or a highly paid thief like Nox, sometimes you’re going to do what you have to do to get ahead.
