Earlier this week, there was a hearing regarding Sparkle Pop‘s sale of consigned inventory they shouldn’t have been selling brought forth by Diamond as part of their chapter 11 drama. While the actual hearing was resolved it seems rather quickly, we’ve been waiting for the official order with the details as to what the court decided. It was a rather open and shut case in a general sense, so it was all about the details with this one.
You can read the full filing below after the summary of what the court had to say.
Sparkle Pop needs to stop all sales, marketing, and advertising of the goods held on consignment. Sparkle Pop has said they’ve already stopped, so this one was pretty open and shut. Sparkle Pop still needs to file a written Certification to the court that it has complied.
Sparkle Pop needs to provide to Diamond and to two of the groups representing some publishers a detailed account, certified by an officer of Sparkle Pop, that has the name of the vendor who provided the product, the name and title of the product, the SKU, and other identifying information, the gross sale proceeds received, the quantity sold and date sold, and the manufacturer’s retail price of the product.
Sparkle Pop needs to pay the gross proceeds of the sale of the consigned inventory into the Registry of the Court. It’ll be held by the court until other decisions have been decided. If any other money comes in due to this, that’ll be turned over too.
The TSA and APA Sparkle Pop agreed to is still in force.
Diamond’s move for damages included attorneys’ fees and costs related to the recovery will be heard at a later date.
JPMorgan Chase Bank’s claims and liens when it comes to the consigned inventory isn’t impacted by this.
None of the above is surprising, it really came down to where the money would be held.

While staying with his great-aunt Kathryn, Evan Ross visits an eerie old toy store. Among the dusty shelves, he finds a can of something called “Monster Blood.” The odd, sticky substance really does look like the blood of a creature. It has a greenish glow and sometimes feels warm to the touch. But the most alarming thing about the toy ooze is the way it keeps growing-overflowing its container, then a bathtub, then filling up a whole trash can. Evan worries that all that growing has given the Monster Blood a monstrous appetite…

Early today we brought the news that DC had cancelled Red Hood and fired writer Gretchen Felker-Martin likely due to comments made on social media in response to the killing of Charlie Kirk. In that article, we speculated there’s a chance DC is “playing it safe” in deference to its corporate owner Warner Bros. Discovery as they may need future approval from the Trump administration who already has a negative opinion about some of its divisions, CNN.
Not long after, news broke and Deadline is reporting that Paramount Skydance was exploring a bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Now that Skydance Media has closed its deal to acquire Paramount Global, there’s speculation that Larry Ellison has turned his sights on to Warner Bros. Discovery next.
Larry Ellison is one of the richest people in the world with an estimated worth around $393 billion and The Wall Street Journal has said that the majority would be a cash bid.
Currently Warner Bros. Discovery is in the process of splitting into two distinct companies again. It’s unknown if the exploration for the purchase involves just the Warner Bros. Studios part of that split or the entire package. According to a Deadline source, Ellison has been look at the company for a while and now they’re taking a closer look.
Any such purchase would need the approval of the Trump administration’s Justice Department for antitrust concerns and there would be a need for all companies to keep the administration happy, so minimizing negative coverage and criticism. Yes, that’d trickle down to a writer on a comic book.
Paramount has appointed Trump’s former ambassador to Japan and conservative Kenneth Weinstein to oversee CBS News as “an independent, internal advocate for journalistic integrity and transparency, reviewing concerns raised by employees and viewers, addressing questions about news coverage, and upholding the organization’s longstanding commitment to accuracy and accountability.” That appointment was part of the agreement from Trump’s FCC to approve the Skydance and Paramount merger. They also agreed to pay $16 million to Trump’s foundation to settle a lawsuit he brought against the company last year. The company is also under fire for agreeing to provide free airtime to Trump. There’s also the canceling of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert which is believed to have been done to appease the Trump administration.
This week saw the debut of Red Hood, a more adult series featuring a character who has built up a fandom from writer Gretchen Felker-Martin, with art by Jeff Spokes. It’s received relatively positive reviews with a current 8.7 rating from critics and a 7.2 from users, even with some review bombing. But, the comic has already been canceled after just its first issue and while DC hasn’t said why, it’s likely due to Felker-Martin’s comments after yesterday’s assassination of controversial rightwing figure Charlie Kirk.
While DC didn’t give specifics they said in a statement to Popverse:
At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.
DC has told retailers it has canceled orders for future issues of the series and is also offering credit for all of the orders placed by retailers on the first issue, including sold copies. The ongoing series had its first three issues solicited, the first issue released September 10 with the next issue to have come out on October 2 and third November 12. The series was intended for a 17+ audience and not part of its more mature label DC Black Label, a curious move along with the release of another comic this week that is creator-owned and for all ages that teased a possible shift in the company’s publishing strategy.
Felker-Martin is no stranger to controversy, regularly being banned by social media platform Bluesky, and was banned again yesterday by the platform. She has been accused of antisemitism, support of Hamas, threatening statements towards JK Rowling, among other provocative statements that had been made well before she was hired by DC for this series. Felker-Martin recent post that’s most often shared:
Gretchen Felker-Martin’s firing coincides on the same day Matthew Dowd was fired by MSNBC for comments made during coverage of the shooting of Kirk continuing the trend of cancelation of “the left” while the right makes threatening and hyperbolic statements with no repercussions.
DC’s decision also rewards bigotry on full display in social media messages towards them and only encourages further similar action.
The firing also comes in an environment where parent corporations are regularly firing staff, censoring output, to appease Donald Trump and the current administration. DC is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav publicly stated that a Trump administration could offer a “pace of change and an opportunity for consolidation” for the media industry. Warner Bros. Discovery has announced a recent split back into two companies and who knows what future approval from the administration it will need. Zaslav has mentioned the need to consolidate streaming services to better compete as an example.
WBD confirmed that a company representative recently reached out to the Trump orbit seeking advice about how the company might advantageously interact with the White House and improve its Trump-age odor. The reported message was to look at the example of Amazon and Jeff Bezos paying Melania Trump $40 million to participate in a documentary about herself. Don Jr. might like a hunting and fishing show on the Discovery Channel, they were told. And that CNN could have more pro-Trump voices — suggestion provided.
Trump is a frequent critic of CNN which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. He has sued the news organization unsuccessfully multiple times. Find an example here and here. During his first administration, Trump’s antitrust officials sued to stop AT&T from buying Time Warner. Some believe that suit was due to Trump’s distate for CNN though officials have said that wasn’t the case.
