THE RETURN OF SUPERWOMAN! After thousands of years without Superman, fighting his enemies in a losing battle, Kara Zor-El nearly lost hope. Now faced with a Kal-El aligned with the formerly estranged Nightwing and Flamebird , the Black Racer, the Valkyries of Warworld , and a Brainiac reborn, will she find the strength to fight again, or has the plague of Kryl-Ux touched her, too?
Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reunite to stop Infernal Hulk, leading them deep within the Earth where they find an ancient weapon that could save humanity from another Age of Monsters. But is even a god-slaying weapon enough to stop Infernal Hulk? Featuring the return of SKAAR! The Infernal Hulk #8 continues the build up to “Hulk War” as each side makes moves in their attempt to bolster their forces.
The Infernal Hulk has been a great marriage of horror and traditional superhero comics as its built its narrative into what’s going to be an epic confrontation in its next phase. Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, The Infernal Hulk #8 has each side making moves to either build their forces or attempting to find a solution to stop the Infernal Hulk. Johnson does a great job for each side, creating a sense of desperation for the heroes as they struggle to find a solution to stop this version of the Hulk. The Infernal Hulk comes off as a grand villain as he plants the seeds to build up his forces after the last issue’s attack on the mutant population. The comic does a great job of teasing the big picture but at the same time not laying all the cards on the table, leaving readers to guess about the horrors to come.
Johnson has delivered with each issue of the series, a mix of action, teasing the bigger picture, and new concepts and ideas that enhance the monster mash-up the comic is going for. It feels like the series that should be what Marvel is building out a new horror line around. It not only fits well into the current superhero dynamics, but opens up ideas and concepts that would fit well to create a new and interesting dynamic for classic horror characters currently sitting on the shelf.
The art by Adam Gorham continues to impress. With color by Matthew Wilson and lettering by Cory Petit, the comic is packed with details that have you lingering on the page to experience the fear and unknown from the heroes or the twisted machinations of the Infernal Hulk. Its an issue that teases what might be unleashed next and with its colors, a sickly feel about it all. It’s a comic that embraces its horror roots in every aspect, perfectly combining story, art, color, and lettering for an experience that’s as much feeling from the visuals as it is the intriguing story within.
The Infernal Hulk #8 is another fantastic issue of the series. I’ve rarely cared about the Hulk as a character but this series has me hooked. It does a great job of elevating the character and superheroes blending in a genre you don’t see often. It fits as much with classic Marvel horror as it does with today’s spandex. It’s a series that shouldn’t be missed.

The light had its turn. For over 80 years, Marvel heroes have inspired hope. This August, that hope dies in the shadows of the Midnight Universe, a new publishing line where top creators unleash haunting new visions of Marvel’s greatest icons. The nightmare begins with three titles: Midnight X-Men by Jonathan Hickman and Matteo Della Fonte; Midnight Fantastic Four by Benjamin Percy and Kev Walker; and Midnight Spider-Man by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and, in his Marvel Comics debut, artist Scie Tronc.
Dark. Unpredictable. Unmissable. The Midnight Universe draws in longtime fans and newcomers alike to enter a terrifying new world where anything can happen. Interconnected by rich lore-building, Marvel’s most definitive modern creators are given free rein to reimagine heroes with shocking twists and chilling transformations in boundary-less, creator-driven storytelling that will keep readers on edge issue after issue. The X-Men no longer fight for acceptance, they hunger for blood. The Fantastic Four venture into the unknown not to save the world—but to unleash terror upon it. And Spider-Man discovers that with great power… comes something monstrous.
More will be unveiled in the months ahead, but today, the main cover for Midnight X-Men #1 by Dike Ruan is revealed. Befitting the line’s mysterious, ominous aura, the main covers of the Midnight titles will be Cloaked Covers, partially obscured with the full artwork revealed with a turn of the page. With the exception of the debut issues, the full artwork will remain shrouded in shadow, only revealing themselves to readers daring enough to pick them up on stands.

Marvel has teased a new publishing line launching this fall, “Midnight.” While the announcement didn’t give much, it is believed Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Benjamin Percy will be involved in this project. Both shared the teaser image. The two are currently working together on Dungeons of Doom.
This new line is believed to be taking over the gap left by the end of the current Ultimate Universe and obviously has a bit more of a horror take. Percy is no stranger to the genre nor is Johnson whose Infernal Hulk perfectly blends classic superhero with horror. Percy announced on May 5 he had signed a two-year contract with Marvel while Johnson went exclusive with the publisher in November 2025.
Marvel has had a mixed history with horror, having published some classics like Tomb of Dracula and an attempt at a line of books in the 90s, like Midnight Sons, but since there’s been a series of miniseries focused on some of the key characters.
