VIZ acquires RWBY from Rooster Teeth

With a surprise announcement, VIZ Media has acquired RWBY from Rooster Teeth. The popular property joins VIZ’s roster of anime and manga.

VIZ’s relationship with RWBY isn’t new. The publisher first partnered with with them in 2016 to develop a manga series by mangaka Shirow Miwa. Manga and a compendium book were released.

Rooster Teeth has struggled in recent years with multiple rounds of layoffs and announced in March 2024 the company would shut down. It became a part of Warner Bros. Discover in April 2022 after years of corporate and leaderships changes. Warner Bros. had announced it was looking to sell Rooster Teeth’s properties.

RWBY launched in 2013 running for 9 seasons and 117 episodes and also released manga, comics, and more. It’s the story of four characters set in the world of Remnant where young people train to be warriors and protect the world from monsters.

VIZ said news as to where the nine volumes of RWBY can be watched will be coming soon as well as the release of future merchandise, soundtracks, manga, and more.
