Millarworld moves to Dark Horse

Mark Millar took to the platform formally known as Twitter to announce that his Millarworld/Netflix catalog of comics will be moving over to Dark Horse.

That’s 20 franchises, 40 graphic novels, and five new series that are launching in 2024. Nemesis: Rogues’ Gallery with Valerio Giangiordano is one of those.

Also mentioned are hardcover omnibus editions of his work.

Millar is the creator behind franchises such as Wanted, Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Starlight, Kingsman, The Magic Order, Jupiter’s Legacy, and more, recently bringing his properties together into a connected world.

Millar’s American Jesus (known as The Chosen for the film adaptation) was released by Dark Horse in 2004. That same year his The Unfunnies was published by Avatar Press and Wanted by Top Cow Productions, an Image imprint.

Millar’s Kick-Ass, Nemesis, Superior, Kick-Ass 2, Supercrooks, MPH, Kingsman: Secret Service, Hit-Girl, and Kick-Ass 3 were all published by Marvel’s creator-owned imprint Icon Comics from 2010 to 2014 with the original Kick-Ass published by Icon from 2008 to 2010. Empress was released by Icon in 2016.

War Heroes, a series that only saw 3 issues published out of 6 was released by Image in 2008 and since 2013, apart from Empress, Millar’s comics have been published through Image since.

In 2017, Netflix purchased Millarworld for an undisclosed amount. Adaptations of Jupiter’s Legacy, Supercrooks, and American Jesus have all been adapted since to mixed results. Many more have been mentioned as being worked on.

It’s unknown why Millarworld has moved from Image to Dark Horse but in 2021, Embracer bought Dark Horse opening up Dark Horse’s properties to take advantage of Embracer’s other entertainment companies which includes top-tier video game and board game production companies.
