Black Panther: Wakanda Forever delivers a record breaking weekend

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

It should be no surprise, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was at the top of the box office with a record breaking $180 million domestically. That’s the top opening weekend for a film released in November. It’s also close to the original film’s opening of $202 million. That movie went on to earn $700.1 million domestically and $1.347 billion worldwide. Domestically, Wakanda Forever also boasts the third highest domestic opening of the domestic era and the second highest domestic opening of 2022 so far.

Internationally, the film opened with $150 million delivering a worldwide debut of $330 million.

In second place was Black Adam which earned an estimated $8.6 million to bring its domestic total to $151.1 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $18.8 million internationally to bring that to $201.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $352.2 million.

Ticket to Paradise held steady in third place. It grossed an estimated $6.1 million to bring its domestic total to $56.5 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $2.9 million over the week to lift that to $93.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed just under $150 million.

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile got a boost moving from sixth to fourth with an estimated $3.2 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $40.8 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $31.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $72.6 million.

Smile wrapped up the top five with an estimated $2.3 million to bring its domestic total to $102.8 million. The film also grossed about $3.4 million internationally over the week to bring that to $107.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed just under $210 million.

In comic film news…

DC League of Super-Pets is now in its fifth week on HBO and grossed about $50,000 at the box office over the week. It now stands about $93.6 million. Internationally, the film stands at $110.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $203.8 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder looks like it’s gained a little. The film has grossed $343.3 million domestically. Internationally gained about $100,000 with a new total of $417.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $760.9 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 46 films earning $209,338,541 from 27,648 theaters. That’s an increase of over 3x from last weekend’s $58,139,201 from 33,719 theaters and 49 films. The average earning was $7,571.56 this past weekend, a massive increase from last weekend’s $1,724.23.
