Steve Rotterdam Joins AfterShock as SVP of Sales and Marketing

AfterShock Comics has announced that former DC Comics marketing veteran and lead strategist Steve Rotterdam will be joining the team as SVP Sales and Marketing.

With more than three decades of experience in marketing leadership and expertise in concept development, strategic planning and program implementation on both the agency and brand side, Rotterdam will develop and implement innovative strategies that will further elevate AfterShock’s status with both retailers and fans.

Prior to joining AfterShock, Rotterdam served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for DC Comics from 2007 to 2011, where he set in motion the company’s first digital communications strategy, helped secure DC’s position as the number one publisher of graphic novels, crafted the industry-lauded “After Watchmen, What’s Next?” campaign, and overhauled DC’s advertising sales and custom solutions departments to compete more effectively and drive increased revenues. Rotterdam then went on to launch the Bonfire Agency, an advertising and marketing consultancy dedicated to helping brands establish and deepen connections to comic culture and its varied communities of superfans.

Earlier this year, AfterShock Comics won Diamond Comic Distributors’ coveted Gem Award for 2017 Publisher of the Year (under 3%).
