The Girl on the Train Wins the Weekend Box Office

girlontrainposterThe Girl on the Train was the winner of the weekend box office with an estimated $24.7 million. The film also earned a reported $16.5 million to bring its total to $41.2 million. The film had an estimated budget of $45 million.

The domestic box office was down compared to the same weekend last year as most of the top rankings were holdovers from the previous week which made up of the rest of the top five.

The Birth of a Nation and Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life came in sixth and seventh in close totals. Birth of a Nation currently has a earned a reported $7.1 million while Middle School earned a reported $6.9 million.

Suicide Squad continued to bring in money dropping just one spot to twelfth. It earned $1.1 million to bring its domestic total to $322.5 million. The film has earned $742.1 million worldwide after ten weeks. It’ll still be in theaters for at least a few more weeks and will wind up around $325 million domestically. Internationally the film has earned $419.6 million which has it officially passing Deadpool when it comes to those earnings.
