Review: Catwoman #47

Catwoman01Catwoman #47: I didn’t want to like it. But I do!

Genevieve Valentine‘s run on the series which just concluded last issue, was a tightly plotted, complex and complete story which ended on its own terms. She took Catwoman to new places and new roles. She made Catwoman a crime boss and wrote a story about court intrigue and female relationships.

The new team on this series, Frank Tieri and Inaki Miranda puts Catwoman back in her traditional role as a cat burglar who steals from the rich to take care of herself and those she loves. This is a return to form. I thought it would be a let-down to go from something so high concept to this more standard approach. But regardless this comic is simply a lot of fun. It’s well-crafted visually and the script is tight. Colorist Eva de la Cruz does great things with a limited palette, especially in night scenes or when Selina causes a black-out in a museum.

Catwoman’s heist is fun and suspenseful. We even get a cool new lady techie character introduced.

I doubt this new arc is going to try to do anything as radical and ambitious as the last. But this is simply a good heist comic. I really enjoyed it. If you want to classic Catwoman comic get reading!
