TV Review: The Flash S2E9 Running to Stand Still
Weather Wizard returns to break Captain Cold and The Trickster out of Iron Heights, but Barry is determined to not let that happen. Meanwhile, Joe and Iris meet Wally West.
One of my favorite things about The Flash comic series is his rogues gallery, particularly The Rogues, a group of villains whose powers and abilities sort of make sense and are very much about the heist versus just hurting people and taking over. Tonight’s brings together three of them Captain Cold, Trickster, and Weather Wizard who band together to take on the Flash… sort of.
First things first, one of the best things about the Rogues is that they have rules, and we see some of that here as they don’t exactly get along. That aspect is brought over really nicely, and also some of their impact on individual’s are really nice, especially the reveal about Patty.
But for me, it’s all about Mark Hamill back as the Trickster. I have fond memories of the first series from the 90s, and seeing him back is so cool and bridges a great gap.
Also, the episode has a lot about family as Joe learns about Wally. Barry deals with Harrison in a weird way. It’s really great to see the show getting back to its heart in many ways. The series is best when it mixes the human side of things with the superhero heroics.
Last week’s first part of this year’s crossover was meh, but this episode was a great bounce back with a bit of a Christmas theme to it all. We have a bit until the next episode, and it can’t race here quick enough.
