Review: Ninjak #10
In December of 2015, a covert military intelligence unit sent a team of 20 agents and one special operative into a parallel dimension. Only one came back.
The purpose of their mission was classified. Now, out of options, MI-6 has recruited their most elite operative – codename: Ninjak – to follow the doomed mission’s sole witness back into the dimension called Deadside…and bring her missing teammates home.
Technology verses magic. Ninja verses demon. Sound interesting? Ninjak #10 is the start of a new four part series that, on the face of things, shows a lot of promise.
Valiant will frequently mark the start of a new story arc as an ideal jumping on point for new readers. It’s something that I have a chuckle about to myself when the series is also starting out, because if the first issue of a series isn’t a great jumping on point, then there’s problems. Ninjak #10, however is a pretty good jumping on point after the previous two story arcs (both will be out in trade paper back format soon so you can catch up), and finds the ninja heading into some very unfamiliar territory.
And yes, it is a pretty decent jumping on point.
As with most Valiant published comics, Ninjak #10 has some top notch art work, which isn’t surprising given that Doug Braithwaite and Juan Jose Ryp are responsible for the artwork this issue. Matt Kindt gives us a comic that both serves as a great opening to the new four part story arc, and as a solid comic in it’s own right. I’d honestly be surprised that with a creative team of this caliber if the failed to deliver anything less than a great comic.
For new readers, there’s really only one reference to a prior comic, but even then if you didn’t read that story (the most recent arc Shadow Seven) you won’t be left out in the cold. If you’ve never read any Ninjak, but you’ve always wanted too, then this is as good a place as any to start. And for existing readers, this is another solid issue in Ninjak‘s monthly series.
I’m genuinely looking forward to reading the rest of this arc.
