Thor: The Dark World Stays on Top

thor the dark worldThor: The Dark World had a great second weekend staying on top the North American box office earning $38.4 million. So far, the movie has made $150 million domestically and over $479.8 million worldwide. That tops the first film which earned $449 million during its run. The movie didn’t face serious competition this week as the only competing movie for the top spot was Best Man Holiday. But, that film opened better than expected.

The movie in its second week in North America dropped 55% from the previous week. Overseas the film earned $52.5 million over the weekend to bring that total to $332.8 million. The first film earned $268 million overseas. One can assume the character is having more interest post Avengers, though we’ll see if there’s a tail to that movie when Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens next year.

It doesn’t look like the film will three-peat as it faces The Hunger Games: Catching Fire next weekend.
