DC Comics Announces DC Universe Vs. The Masters of the Universe
I checked, and it’s not April Fool’s Day, but I guess it was inevitable that at some point, these two epic worlds would collide.
Earlier this morning, DC Comics announced that beginning this summer, the heroes of the DC Universe will be facing off against He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in an exciting and all-new six-issue miniseries from writer Keith Giffen and artist Dexter Soy!
After narrowly escaping his last battle with He-Man, Skeletor has fled to the most unexpected realm to recover: EARTH! Once there, he sets a plan in motion to siphon off Earth’s core magic. Forging an unlikely hunting party, He-Man and company go in search of Skeletor. Finding themselves at odds with the heroes of the DC Universe, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe must find a way to stop Skeletor and his mysterious new master!
And how will the Masters of the Universe respond to finding themselves within the DC Universe?
Giffen teased:
Culture shock lives! Actually, they’ve come to stop Skeletor from doing to the DCU what he’s always wanted to do to Eternia. By the way… what makes you think Skeletor came to the DCU voluntarily?
DC Universe Vs. The Masters of the Universe #1, which arrives in stores on August 28.

Back in the mid-’80s, we saw the emergence of intelligent, thought-provoking comics whose writers championed the art form as relevant (see: Grant Morrison, Jamie Delano, Alan Moore, Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, etc..). These writers, (and it would be improper of me not to also applaud Karen Berger for helping birth this movement) tried to tell the world that comics were not just for kids anymore; that they could be taken seriously, with or without colourful cape-wearing characters. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but apparently, the new battle cry of comics (at least on DC’s part) is now “Comics: not for anyone with a brain, a vagina, or over the age of 12 anymore.”.
Sigh… I don’t want to live in a world where there is even a remote possibility that John Constantine could interact with Skeletor.
Well written post, sir, it’s the story behind it I take exception to.
