NYCC 2012 – ComiXology Brings the New. Submit to their Techy Goodness!

On top of a shiny new booth at New York Comic Con, digital comics leader comiXology announced two items yesterday. Comixology has announced it will soon allow for submissions from independent creators to publish their comics on the digital comic platform. In addition, folks can now pre-order comic books to boot. That’s two huge items.

ComiXology Submit will initially start out as invite-only/private beta. ComiXology Submit will allow creators a free portal to easily access the comiXology platform. Submissions will go through an approval process and when approved comiXology will transform the uploaded work with their Guided View technology – for free. Then the work goes on sale worldwide with the creator and comiXology splitting the profits evenly. That’s a nuclear bomb in the digital comic world and folks can sign up right now.

They are also now offering their customers the ability to pre-order their favorite comic books and graphic novels. This innovative pre-order feature, developed jointly with Marvel Comics, is now available through the Marvel webstore and the comiXology website. Pre-ordering kicked off earlier this week with Marvel’s launch of Marvel NOW! and the release of Uncanny Avengers #1, to give Marvel fans the ability to make sure they didn’t miss the first issue. Since Marvel’s Uncanny Avengers #1 debut, comiXology has rolled out the ability to pre-order to a wider slate of titles and is eyeing offering all new comic books and graphic novels for pre-order in the future.

Other comic titles currently available for pre-order:

  • Uncanny Avengers #1
  • He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #3
  • The Walking Dead #103
  • Transformers: Robots in Disguise #10
  • Prophecy #4
  • Godstorm #1

The pre-order feature solves the problem of comic fans missing their favorite new comic books or graphic novels. Once customers make a pre-order, they will be notified by email at the time of release and the comic or graphic novel will appear for download in the Purchases section. It is at that time that customers will be charged.

All of this is on top of the digital comic platform coming close to reaching their 100,000,000th download.
