With an estimated $168.5 million Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 has crushed the opening weekend of the previous record holder, The Dark Knight.  The previous record was $158.4 million.  Potter also earned $307 million overseas, another record.  Midnight movies alone counted for $43.3 million of the movie’s weekend total.

The movie is earning praise with a 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and “A” rating on Cinemascore.  The movie also saw an audience that was 54% female.  3-D showings accounted for 43% of it’s total in the US and 61% overseas.

Green Lantern continued it’s plunge dropping to number 14 on the charts.  The movie earned $1.2 million and brought its domestic cumulative to $112.7 million.  It’s only earned $33 million overseas.
