“Think About the Children” is usually cried out here in the United States when some political hopeful wants to score points with Soccer Moms.  Well, it looks like we’ve shipped that line of BS over to Vietnam.  According to Viet Nam News educators and parents are concerned that the most popular books for children contain too much violence and adult content.

Japanese and Chinese comic books are popular with children and often depict guns, swords and adult affairs.

Bui Chi Vinh a popular children’s book writer said:

Violent and sexy comics can affect children because they are young and naive.

Studies have never definitively linked entertainment and violence.  But Vinh takes the correct route in saying that this is a challenge for Vietnamese authors and artists to create more appealing material for children.
