Rom the Space Knight Makes Triumphant Return to Comics!

IDW PUB - ROM SPACE KNIGHT 0 FCBD 2016Rom the Space Knight began life as one of the first LED-driven action figures in the late 1970s, then went on to much more acclaim as a comic book hero. Now, removed from comics for over three decades, the character is being given new life in Rom the Space Knight, an all-new comic book series from IDW Publishing.

Rom the Space Knight #0 will make its debut on the first Saturday in May as IDW’s “Gold” offering for Free Comic Book Day. The annual FCBD event sees thousands upon thousands of comics from all publishers given away for free at participating comic shops. The comic will be co-written by IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and acclaimed comic-book/TV writer Christos Gage. Art on Rom #0 will be handled by David Messina, who will also be sharing artistic duties on the ongoing Rom series. The cover art for Rom #0 is by the Wild Blue Yonder team of Zach Howard and Nelson Daniel.

Rom the Space Knight tells the story of Rom, a member of the benevolent Solstar Order and greatest of the Space Knights, interstellar soldiers in a centuries-old war with the Dire Wraiths. The Wraiths are a race of alien invaders who’ve destroyed many planets and infiltrated Earth for nefarious purposes.

Rom the Space Knight #0 will feature an introductory 10-page story of Rom’s arrival on Earth, an incident that sets up an ongoing Rom series launching in July 2016.

As an added bonus, the issue will contain additional content including character sketches, creator interviews and a glimpse of things to come. This debut represents a major launch for IDW and Hasbro next year, and this special first story will be free throughout the universe next May!

Kickstarter Spotlight: Hugo Broyler: a fast-paced future-noir thriller

hugo boyler bookby Mike Kennedy
Publisher/President
Magnetic Press

Hugo Broyler: a fast-paced future-noir thriller on Kickstarter, featuring a murderer’s row of top comic industry artists from around the world.

Nearly two dozen comic industry super-stars have joined writer Mike Kennedy (Star Wars: Underworld, Superman: Infinite City, Lone Wolf 2100, Dead to Rights, Bleedout) and illustrator Francisco Paronzini (Stormwatch PHD, The Immortal Iron Fist, Dead to Rights, Star Wars Tales) in the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for the original graphic novel Hugo Broyler, a fast-paced future-noir thriller, where smart cars roam the streets and hacking is indistinguishable from possession and insanity.

This stylish, full-color blockbuster is packed full of high-speed action and psychological intrigue, and is brought to life by a killer lineup of top comic industry artists contributing pieces from around the world, including cover art by Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets), and pieces fan-favorites such as Bengal (Batgirl, Naja), Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Wormwood, Squidder), Zach Howard (Wild Blue Yonder, The Cape), DJet (Poet Anderson), Matteo De Longis (VOX), Francisco Ruiz Velasco (Pacific Rim, Hellboy), Nathan Fox (DMZ, Haunt, Blue Estate), Ben Caldwell (Prez, Dare Detectives), Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire, Blue Beetle), Leandro Fernandez (Punisher, Hulk, The Names), Marcelo Frusin (Hellblazer, Loveless), German Peralta (Moon Knight, Axis: Carnage), Max Fiumara (BPRD, Abe Sapien), and Renato Guedes (Wolverine, Superman), Caio Oliveira (Super-Ego, No More Heroes), Daniel Warren Johnson (Ghost Fleet, Space Mullet), and Brydon Everett (The World of Cassyno).

Billed as a high-speed, sci-fi, grindhouse graphic novel, this breakneck thriller paints a future world where frictionless autos careen a ludicrous speeds in the popular sport of Static Velocity Levitation Racing, and international mega-corporations sponsor fearless racing teams who risk life and limb for fame and fortune. When former champ Hugo Broyler wipes out in the final lap of the latest championship, he’s left with little choice but to take wheel work for cash from a local crimelord. But the crash left him with more than just a few scars and a bad attitude – now he’s hearing voices, specifically the ghost of his former, deceased rival. Or maybe someone’s hacking his brain. Or maybe he’s just crazy…

Kennedy and Paronzini seek to raise funds to colorize, re-letter, and print the completed graphic novel, which will be supplemented with an additional 20 pages of world-building story material illustrated by the collection of guest contributors. This extra content will further flesh out the intricate world of cyber-crime, psychological manipulation, and levitation racing revealed in the main storyline.

The campaign offers copies of the book itself in soft- or hard-cover, original artwork, in-world artifacts and merchandise, as well as a mix of 70s/80s style paraphernalia that evokes a retro grindhouse flavor, with a future-sci-fi twist. This is just the first glimpse into the world of Hugo Broyler, says Kennedy, with future chapters, tabletop games, and interactive plans in the works.

Check out HUGO BROYLER today, and help them reach the finish line!

BOY-1 Evolves This August at IDW

IDW Publishing is adding the thrilling new creator-owned science-fiction miniseries, BOY-1, to their hit list of summer releases.

Penned by writer and creator HS Tak and vividly rendered by artist Amancay Nahuelpan, BOY-1 captures the futuristic journey of a man who discovers he is the subject of a groundbreaking experiment that spins out of control and soon threatens the extinction of all mankind. With nations hunting him as they struggle to maintain order, every move he makes comes with a thousand repercussions.

Preview: The Claws Come Out This January in Wolverines #1!

His death was only the beginning. Spinning directly out of the chart-topping Death of Wolverine, The Logan Legacy and The Weapon X Program comes a brand-new weekly series kicking off this January in Wolverines #1! Today, Marvel is pleased to present your new look at the blockbuster first issue from the star-studded creative team of Charles Soule, Ray Fawkes, Alisson Borges and All-New Young Gun artist Nick Bradshaw!

Wolverine may be dead, but the weekly journey is just beginning as his mortal remains, now encased in the rare and powerful adamantium, are up for grabs. The battle begins as various factions vie for control of this valuable artifact. But why does it matter so much? And why is a war brewing in Logan’s name?

Death is on the books for a number of Marvel’s heroes and villains, and Mystique is playing chess with them all. X-23, Daken, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, the mysterious man known only as Sharp and many, many more!

In an interview with Marvel.com, Ray Fawkes said:

“In a way, most of the characters featured in [Wolverines] are incomplete reflections of Wolverine. Perhaps now that he’s gone, they are free to fully realize themselves? Or maybe they’ll be annihilated by the void that he’s left behind?

The true enemy is still out there. With Logan gone, they pose a greater threat than ever before. An unlikely team of his closest allies and most bitter rivals will need to work together if they have any hope of avenging his death – but how can they?

Soule added in the same interview:

The group here is not a set of people who are particularly interested in doing anything together unless they absolutely have to.

Logan’s end was just the beginning. As those who called him friend mourn his passing, those who called him foe are free to pursue their sinister aims. Now, those with close ties to him will forge an uneasy alliance to uncover the secrets behind  his death, and new revelations about his life!

2015 is kicking off with the “SNIKT” that shouldn’t be missed as the weekly adventure begins in Wolverines #1!
