It’s the latest entry into our Tuesday Twitter Fun series of posts.  This week just features two writers who are regulars that don’t have an issue with letting folks know what they think.

Ron Marz, who’s no stranger to this column, lets his thoughts be known about Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann and Sean Hannity.  You can follow him at http://twitter.com/ronmarz.

Ed Brubaker hits two subjects in a series of tweets.  He first plugs the issue of Net Neutrality, which all who spend time on the web should care about.  For those that care about the subject you can take action right now and write your elected officials.  Also touched upon is the anti-incumbent sentiment that’s brewing in the country.  You can follow Brubaker at http://twitter.com/brubaker.

Tuesday Twitter Fun – Reid, McCain, Palin and More

Welcome to our first entry in our regular Twitter Tuesday Fun where we’ll highlight politically charged tweets from those in the comic industry.  Our first entry comes from Erik Larsen who’s a regular when it comes to politics and Twitter.  The writer of such well known series as Savage Dragon wears his politics on his sleeve for the world to see.

The background of this tweet is Senator Richard Shelby putting numerous holds on appointments by President Obama.  These holds are similar to filibusters but more informal and Senator Reid (who is the Majority Leader) can choose to ignore them and force a formal filibuster.

The rumor is Sen. Shelby will lift the holds if he gets billions of dollars for his state of Alabama (yes folks this is how our government works).

Larsen tweeted a petition action using the Credo Mobile platform to implore Sen. Reid to ignore the holds and extortion by Shelby and force Shelby to actually filibuster each nominee (70 at the moment) which involves standing on the Senate floor and talking pretty much non-stop (you can’t even leave the floor to use the bathroom).

Eric Tautmann, a writer on various series, decided to chime in on Senator McCain’s hypocrisy on “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.”  He followed up a link about the contradiction with some colorful language after.  Also, you’ll notice that he’s changed his location to Tehran, Iran.  This was a popular idea to confuse censors in Iran and flood the amount of information they’d have to look at during the recent political protests that have occurred there.

Palin Bio Comic “Goes Rogue” With Unprecedented Fourth Printing With New Content

Official Press Release

As Sarah Palin criss-crosses the nation promoting her new tell-all memoir, Bluewater Productions plans to “go rogue” with a fourth-printing of the best selling bio comic featuring the former Alaska governor.

“Female Force: Sarah Palin,” updates her story from the original comic released in February, adds new artwork and features a new cover. This special edition will be available in comic shops and online venues later this month. Featuring a new cover by Vinnie Tartamella.

“People just can’t get enough of Sarah Palin,” said Darren Davis, Bluewater’s president on the need for the unprecedented fourth printing of a single title. “This issue has proven to be one of our all-time best sellers and Palin signed a couple copies of the comics for us.”

Published earlier this year, the original comic ended with her failed bid for the Vice Presidency of the United States. Since then, Palin has remained a high profile personality given her curious resignation as governor of Alaska, her new memoir and her public clash with her former son-in-law.

“She is a polarizing figure, but a compelling one,” Davis remarked as to why he thought the Palin title has sold so well. “Many scoffed when I said last year we’ll still be talking about Palin long after the election. I think she will be a topic of conversation for many years.”

Female Force offers a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. The Palin book will share the comic shelf with a Female Force biography of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling which also comes out this month.

The comic book series, launched earlier this year, has drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, “The View” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming comic book is $3.99.

“Female Force” Graphic Novel Featuring Clinton, Palin, Obama & Kennedy Bios In Stores This Wednesday

Female Force Volume I, a trade paperback containing the first four issues of the popular biography comic book series will be available at comic shops and newsstands on October 14.

The collection includes the unabridged issues featuring Hillary Clinton, Sarah Plain, Michelle Obama, and Caroline Kennedy.  Additionally, the 96-page anthology contains an updated version of the Sarah Palin issue that addresses her resignation announcement as Alaska’s governor in July. The issue originally was published in February 2009.

“Each of these women has a powerful life story to share,” said Bluewater president Darren Davis. “And each has made a significant contribution to the political and cultural landscape.”

A new cover by artist Vinnie Tartamella, who has been responsible for many of the individual issue cover likenesses, features all four women.

Female Force offers a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. Each woman featured in the trade paperback will include alternate cover drawings.

“We are thrilled with the reception of these bio comics. We know that this trade paperback anthology is only the first of many volumes to come,” Davis added.

The comic book series, launched earlier this year, has drawn considerable media attention, including features on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” It has also been featured in such periodicals as People Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, USA Today and thousands of blogs and other media outlets.

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming trade paperback is $15.99.

EC Comics Goes Political

It what is shaping up to be one of the more overt political years in comic books, controversial publisher EC Comics has decided to get in on the action.  The publisher of such series as Tales From the Crypt has decided to depict Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin on an issue cover for the series.  Issue #8 shows the candidate wielding a hockey stick asking “Didn’t we get rid of you guys in the 1950s?”

In an interior editorial Cathy Gaines Mifsud writes “Tales from the Crypt is not endorsing any political candidates…nor are we attacking any candidates, but Tales does care about freedom and censorship.”

EC Comics and it’s original publisher William Gaines (who also founded Mad Magazine) are not new to politics.  It was EC’s publishing of horror comics that lead to Senate hearings on the comic book industry and it’s “corrupting” influence on the youth.  You can find out more about that part in American history in the book, The Ten-Cent Plague.
