Frank Quitely joins Bad Idea’s Warbird!

Bad Idea has revealed that Frank Quitely is joining the Warbird team! Warbird is the spiritual successor to Planet Death. Quitely joins co-writers Derek Kolstad and Robert Venditti on the much-anticipated project.

Quitely first takes off on Wardbird with designs. Two of his non-spoiler designs are below. There you can see Cole, the hero of the story. Very much in the model of the classic Hollywood action heroes — a helping of Steve McQueen, a dash of Clint Eastwood, even a little younger Brando, Connery and James Garner!

Quitely has also already provided cover art for Wardbird. Cole in action with just a glimpse of the Russian next generation fighter jet the story revolves around.

Cole is a repo man of the highest caliber, repossessing heavily guarded mega yachts from billionaires, private planes from captains of industry, and everything in-between. If it’s got an engine, he can drive it, ride it, or fly it straight out from under the nose of an army of guards.

But now he’s handed the job of a lifetime. The impossible job. One that will bring him face to face with the highest stakes.

The Russians have stolen aeronautical military secrets from China, France, Germany, The UK, and the US to “Frankenstein” together the ultimate bleeding edge, next-gen fighter jet: The Warbird. There are only three of them in existence. They are a force of absolute nature—$1.4 billion apiece—dominating every global hotspot from Syria to Ukraine. And Cole’s been hired to steal one… and destroy the other two.

His fee? 10%. A cool $140 million. But this isn’t a repossession job. This is outright theft. And failure doesn’t mean jail time and fines—it means a bullet to the back of the head.

Save Now #1 is solid sci-fi mixed with superheroes and has excited for what’s to come

Armed with the extraordinary ability to “save” any moment in his life and then go back and relive from that point forward again, SAVER can rewrite his past, altering his actions time and time again until he gets things right. But cursed with only being able to travel backwards, never forwards, he is burdened by having to spend his relived life in agonizing real time. Travel back 6 days, and he must relive those days in full, aging all the while.

Saver has seen our future, and our impending apocalypse. Yet, no matter how many times he goes back and no matter how far back he goes, he can’t steer us clear of armageddon. What would you do if you knew the world was going to end but couldn’t stop it? What if you could choose to live your life out repeating the best year of your life? Which year would it be?

Rick Leonardi, Chris Miskiewicz, Khoi Pham, Asia Simone, Robert Venditti, and Ron Wilson

Everyone is coming to the 2025 Baltimore Comic-Con on October 17-19 at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. The Baltimore Comic-Con has announced the addition of Rick Leonardi, Chris Miskiewicz, Khoi Pham, Asia Simone, Robert Venditti, and Ron Wilson to the 2025 event. Have you purchased your tickets yet?

Rick Leonardi has drawn comics for more than forty years. His best-known works include various issues of The Uncanny X-Men and New Mutants, as well as runs on Cloak & Dagger, Spider-Man 2099, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Green Lantern vs. Aliens. He is credited, along with fellow illustrator Mike Zeck, with designing the black-and-white costume to which Spider-Man switched during the miniseries Secret Wars, and with creating the costume for Spider-Man 2099. He was penciler/inker for the original four issues of Watson and Holmes, which received an Eisner nomination for Best New Series in 2014.

Recently, Rick finished up an original graphic novel, Blue Angel, for the US Naval Institute Press, contributed pages to Nightwing #100, and enjoyed Spider-Man 2099’s appearance in Across the Spider-Verse.

Chris Miskiewicz is a graphic novelist and award-nominated writer of the science-fiction western This is Where We Fall, the biographies Grateful Dead Origins and Elvis: The Graphic Novel, and the award-winning series, Thomas Alsop. His work has been recognized with two Best Non-Fiction Comic Work, one Best Writer, and one Best Original Graphic Novel Ringo Award nominations, and is the winner of Denmark’s esteemed Claus Deleuran Award for Best Graphic Novel. As an actor, Chris has appeared on CBS’s Bull, HBO’s Bored to Death, and USA Networks’ White Collar.

Khoi Pham is an artist and mentor. His artworks include DC’s Teen Titans, Marvel’s Mighty Avengers, X-Men Legacy, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Chaos War, Incredible Hercules, Gambit, Mighty Thor, and X-Factor, and Top Cow’s Cyberforce. He has done numerous cover illustrations for various publications. Khoi was an attorney and venture capitalist prior to switching to art and mentoring. He has a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Saint Joseph’s University.

Asia Simone received her BFA in Illustration and a minor in Creative Writing from the University of the Arts. She’s a digital artist whose love for animation and comics/manga is evident in her work, including her graphic novel release, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Wreck and Roll. Her goal is always to draw whimsically expressive characters and create stories and worlds that feel magical, whether contemporary or not. Her love for character acting is evident in her work on interior projects, Adventure Time: Best Of Buds issue 2, and My Little Pony: Tournament Of Mysteries. She uses vibrant colors, shapes, and light to express fantasy in reality and to showcase positive representations of underrepresented people and stories. With two books to her name, she continues to develop her sense of storytelling through personal comics and characters she creates.

Robert Venditti, appearing courtesy of Bad Idea, is a New York Times bestselling author whose characters and stories have been adapted to film, television, animation, and video games. Some of his works include the monthly comic book series Superman ’78, Hawkman, Green Lantern, and Justice League for DC Comics, X-O Manowar and Wrath of the Eternal Warrior for Valiant Entertainment, and the graphic novel Six Days, inspired by the story of his uncle’s participation in D-Day. He has also adapted Rick Riordan’s global bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus series. His most recent projects include Ordained, Planet Death, and MrBallen Presents: Strange, Dark & Mysterious.

Ron Wilson started drawing at Marvel Comics in 1974, working under the tutelage of John Romita Sr. During his tenure, he has drawn 101 Marvel covers, worked on 8-page mystery stories, and illustrated for Captain Britain, Power Man, The Incredible Hulk Magazine, Marvel Two-in-One, The Thing, and He-Man: Masters of the Universe. Survive #1 is a hell of a start and if you like sub stories or tales of survival, it’s a must get

The Russian Akula-class submarine’s orders were simple: escort the cargo ship Turgenev across the Atlantic and safely deliver her to Cuba’s shores. But someone aboard has a competing mission–sabotage. Now a fiery explosion has punched through its titanium hull, turning the once-prized vessel of the Russian fleet into a watery tomb.

100 ft down and sinking fast, two lone survivors remain, a Russian sailor and an American spy, the final combatants in a warzone only four hundred feet long and forty feet wide. Locked in heated battle, and buried under the weight of an entire ocean, each man is determined to kill the other before time runs out.

But the fight to survive only starts on the ocean floor as these two men are pushed to their limits and beyond in a fight against each other, the deadliest environment on Earth, and their own military forces to complete their missions and make it out alive as the world hangs in the balance.

Bad Idea’s Ordained gets variant covers from The Walking Dead’s Charlie Adlard

Writer Robert Venditti joins forces with artist Trevor Hairsine, colorist Dave Stewart,  and letterer DC Hopkins for Ordained, coming in September from Bad Idea.

Bad Idea has revealed that Derek Kolstad, creator and writer of the internationally acclaimed, box office dominating motion picture franchise John Wick, the multi-award winning action-thriller Nobody and its sequel for Universal Studios, as well as the record-breaking epic comic book event Planet Death has come aboard to adapt for screen. The upcoming major motion picture stars a soon-to-be-revealed A-list Oscar nominee.

Bad Idea has also revealed that award-winning artist, Charlie Adlard, best known for his seminal run on the best-selling series The Walking Dead, is joining the series for a line of stunning covers.

Father Royston Craig became a priest late in life but he’s determined to make up for lost time. Along with his regular duties at his St. Louis church, he also performs the prayers of the last rites to patients on their deathbeds at the nearby hospital.

One day, he’s called to give these sacraments to Cormac Byrne, who doctors say won’t last the night. Byrne, like many others, has turned to God only at the end; he hasn’t been to church in decades. Father Roy is eager to hear his confession, but what starts as petty crime from a lifetime ago quickly becomes a horrifying litany of gangland violence and killings. Cormac Byrne is no ordinary man. He is, in fact, the head of the Irish mafia. God offers forgiveness to all who truly repent, and Father Roy completes his task by absolving Byrne of his mortal sins, leaving the man to die at peace…

…until the next morning. When Byrne makes a miraculous medical recovery. No longer at death’s door, Byrne is quick to return to his old ways. It’s business as usual and he’s got loose ends to tie up. First things first: KILL THE PRIEST who now knows where all the bodies are buried.

But Father Roy’s collar wasn’t always white, and Byrne is going to learn the hard way that Father Royston Craig was once Chief Petty Officer Royston Craig, a former Navy SEAL who found his faith in the midst of battle. Now Father Roy must face vicious gangsters, corrupt cops, and his own inner demons if he is to survive. And while he will be forced to tap into a violent skill set he thought never to again entertain, the one thing Father Roy will not do… is kill.

Ordained #1 is out September 10. Check out Charlie Adlard’s covers for the first three issues below!
