About Top Cow Productions Inc.

Top Cow Productions, Inc. (www.topcow.com), a Los Angeles-based entertainment company, was founded in December of 1992 by artist Marc Silvestri, who also co-founded Image Comics earlier that same year. Top Cow currently publishes its line of comic books in 21 languages in over 55 different countries. The company has launched 20 franchises (18 original and two licensed) in the industry’s Top 10, seven at #1, a feat accomplished by no other publisher in the last two decades. Its flagship franchise, WITCHBLADE, was TNT’s #1 original film of 2000 and the subsequent TV series was released on DVD on July 29, 2008.  WITCHBLADE is also the first American property to be fully adapted in Japan as an original anime and manga by Studio GONZO in 2006. Top Cow’s other flagship property, THE DARKNESS, was developed into a

Review – Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #5

Broken Trinity Pandoras Box #5The biggest shame of Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box is that it’s a prequel of sorts for Top Cow’s red hot Artifacts, but due to delays it’s still going on.  It’d be a stronger series if it had kept the schedule it should have.  But, that being said, its poor form to judge a series based on when it comes out, especially one so entertaining.  Written by Bryan Edward Hill and Rob Levin with pencils by Facundo Percio the story focuses on three artifact bearers.  One empowered with fire, one with ice and a third with Pandora’s Box, which I’m still not quite sure what it does.

The ARTIFACTS lead-in series reaches its penultimate issue!

The End of Days has come! When Elias and his Disciples of Adam unleash the dark power of Pandora’s Box, a terrifying villain is let loose upon the Earth. Will Glori and Finn rise to stop Armageddon, or will their compulsion to destroy each other doom millions of innocent lives?

From newcomers Rob Levin (THE DARKNESS: SHADOWS & FLAME) and Bryan Edward Hill (BROKEN TRINITY: AFTERMATH), and artist Alessandro Vitti (SECRET WARRIORS). Featuring covers by Tommy Lee Edwards (Book of Eli, TURF)!

The issue really is one big giant fight issue with the two pseudo heroes forced to face each other by the bad guy.  That parts all about the art and action.  What’s great though is the ending, completely unexpected and not where I thought it’d go, it’s kept me on my toes to check out what the sixth issue brings.

As a whole this is one of those issues that are hard to judge on their own.  It’s one issue in a six issue series.  Each issue is an important part of the story, and the story would fail without one of those issues.  For people who haven’t been keeping up with the series, you can definitely skip it, but for those who’ve read the previous four, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Review – Abattoir #1

Abattoir #1 CoverI think creepy is the best word to describe Abattoir #1 from Radical Publishing.  This is the classic “scary house” story and involves a brutal murder in the middle of the perfect suburbia.

From director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw franchise, Mother’s Day, Repo! The Genetic Opera) comes a chilling, supernatural tale set in the cold beauty of Middle America in the late 80s.

After a brutal massacre takes place in a gorgeous house, real estate agent and family man Richard Ashwalt is assigned the impossible task of picking up the pieces and selling the property. As Richard inspects the blood-soaked grounds, a twisted old man journeys to the house with a sinister and terrifying purpose. Richard is about to be drawn into a web of shadows, murders and massacres that will shatter him to his very core!

Halloween has passed, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to enjoy this scary tale.  The story is nothing of what I expected and I can’t wait to read the second issue.  I could easily see this as a classic episode of Tales From the Crypt (a compliment).

The story is just spooky and entertaining.  A definite buy for horror fans.
