Scout Comics Reveals More Info About Black Caravan, the New Horror Imprint

In February 2020, Scout Comics announced six new imprints. Black Caravan was one of them whose focus is to “explore the darker side of creator-owned comics, high-end art books, and collectibles. The horror imprint’s co-Publishers are Joseph Schmalke and Rich Woodall.

Now, we’ve got the first six new titles which will debut later this year.

A collection of three stories set in the world that Lovecraft created, whilst referencing the writer’s most popular works. The collection also features a whole host of bonus artwork from a wide array of artists all keen to share their love for the things that should not be. A group of teenagers, all adopted, begin to discover they have dark and terrible powers, connected to the psychological distress and torture they endured in their early childhood. Written by Massimo Rosi, artwork by Lodovica Caregatti.

Don Handfield Joins Scout Comics as They Expand with Six New Imprints

Scout Comics & Entertainment Inc. has announced that it’s expanding its operations in 2020. Producer and writer Don Handfield has joined Scout as a partner, co-owner, and board member. He will also serve as Chief Media Officer, helping the company further expand into new media, film, and television. Additionally, Scout is launching six new specialty imprints as it seeks to bolster its presence in the direct comic market as well as diving full force into the brick & mortar bookstore and e-retailer markets.

Handfield is the co-creator and Executive Producer of History Channel’s drama series Knightfall, one of the top cable drama launches of 2017. He also produced The Founder starring Michael Keaton. Handfield’s first comic series The Rift, was picked up by Steven Spielberg and Amblin; and his second series The Mall, published by Scout, was picked up by Ivan Reitman. Handfield is also behind The Source from Scout, and The Dark Age at Red 5 Comics, which was optioned by Armory Films (Mudbound, Peanut Butter Falcon). On the film side, Handfield is currently producing along with Marc Platt (LA LA LAND) the adaptation of Switched On, the critically-acclaimed book from John Elder Robison at Focus Features with Emma Frost (The White Queen) adapting. Handfield is also producing the US-remake of top grossing Vietnamese horror film Housemaid alongside CJ Entertainment from a script that was adapted for the US market by Academy-Award winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher.

Outsider Comics began as a physical retail space in Seattle, committed to showing that comics are for everyone. Run by Jill Taplin, the Outsider imprint will focus on celebrating creators and stories that are underrepresented in sequential storytelling today.

ONE-SHOT

The One-Shot imprint will publish approximately half a dozen self-contained one-shot comics by some of today’s most talented creators each year. At the beginning of each subsequent year, Scout will collect all of these one-shots into a single trade paperback anthology.

Scout’s Nonstop! imprint caters to readers, collectors and retailers alike. First, a Nonstop! world premiere issue #1 is released to give fans a taste of the story, and then a few months later, the full story is released in full as a trade paperback.

Richard Case got his start at Marvel Comics, working on Strange Tales, but got his first real run on Doom Patrol at DC Comics. He has also contributed to numerous other noteworthy, acclaimed titles at DC, including Sandman, Shade, the Changing Man, Preacher, and Hunter: The Age of Magic. He is also a contributor to the Artist Alley Comics digital initiative. His recent work can be seen on DC Comics’ Batman ’66, Dynamite Entertainment’s Flash Gordon and King: Jungle Jim, and variant covers from Action Lab Entertainment’s Princeless: Raven the Pirate Princess.

Comics writer Todd Dezago has been a contributed noteworthy story lines to many Image, DC, and Marvel comic books. At Marvel Comics, he has scribed runs on Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, Super Hero Squad, Marvel Adventures, Marvel Age: Spider-Man, Marvel Age: Spider-Man Team-Up, Cable, and X-Factor. For DC Comics, he has worked on Impulse, Teen Titans, JLA: World Without Grownups, Legends of the DC Universe, and Young Justice. Dezago’s creator-owned titles, Tellos and Perhapanauts, are published through Image Comics, and have garnered much attention and kudos. Along with his co-creator, Craig Rousseau, Dezago is in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign for their newest work, The Perhapanauts: Into Hollow Earth.

kempleChris Kemple is one of the contributors to the digital comics effort, Artist Alley Comics, and his work can be found in G.T. Labs’ Fallout. After graduating with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from East Carolina University, Kemple worked as an assistant at Artamus Studios with Richard Case, Mike Wieringo, Jeff Parker, Casey Jones, and Scott Hampton, among others. Currently a teacher and freelance artist, Chris was a founding member of and texture artist and 3D object modeler at video game development studio, Red Storm Entertainment.

Craig Rousseau has spent his career as an artist working on numerous noteworthy titles and runs. He has provided art on DC Comics’ Batman Beyond, Harley Quinn, and Impulse, Marvel’s Captain America & the Korvac Saga, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane Season 2, and Iron Man & the Iron Wars, and he can be seen lately working on DC Comics’ Batman ’66, Image Comics’ Perhapanauts: Danger Down Under, Dark Horse Comics’ Dark Horse Presents, and Dynamite Entertainment’s Pathfinder: Goblins! as well as Teen Titans Go! variant covers for DC Comics’ Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Justice League of America. woodallRich Woodall, also an Artist Alley Comics contributor, is known for his creator-owned titles, Johnny Rayguy, the Zombie Bomb! He has also worked on Image Comics’ Savage Dragon, The Perhapanauts, and more recently worked on a variant cover for IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Kelly Yates has provided artwork for Amber Atoms, Tales of Tellos, and The Perhapanauts at Image Comics, numerous Doctor Who titles at IDW, including Doctor Who: A Fairytale Life and Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time, Fear Agent at Dark Horse Comics, and JLA-Z at DC Comics. Baltimore Comic-Con 2014: Case, Feister, Kemple, Woodall, and Yates

sandmanBaltimore Comic-Con is less than a month away! It is the show’s premiere inaugural three-day event, held at the Baltimore Convention Center on September 5-7, 2014. The convention will welcome back Richard Case, Tom Feister, Chris Kemple, Rich Woodall, and Kelly Yates to the show!

Richard Case got his start at Marvel Comics, working on Strange Tales, but got his first real run on Doom Patrol at DC Comics. He has also contributed to numerous other noteworthy, acclaimed titles at DC, including Sandman, Shade, the Changing Man, Preacher, and Hunter: The Age of Magic. He is also a contributor to the Artist Alley Comics digital initiative.

gijoeTom Feister has contributed to numerous publishers and titles throughout the comics industry. Feister received kudos and recognition as inker on Wildstorm’s Ex Machina, including an Eisner Award nomination for best team with penciller Tony Harris. More recently, Tom is credited with working on Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Top Cow’s Artifacts and Artifacts Origins one-shot, IDW’s G.I. JOE Origins, and covers on DC Comics’ Legion: Secret Origins and IDW’s G.I. JOE.
