Seattle Police Tell Superhero Phoenix Jones to Knock It Off

Bookmark and Share

We covered Phoenix Jones before and his real life superhero shtick.  Now the Seattle police are telling him to knock it off before he really gets hurt.  This past Saturday while breaking up a fight the man had his nose broken by the dastardly villains he was attempting to subdue.

During his breaking up the fight, Jones had called 911 and put the individual in a headlock until they arrived.  Unfortunately, another man pulled a gun on Jones.  The man he had detained then kicked Jones, breaking his nose.

Police spokespeople said they heard about the incident from reporters.  Jones has said the attack was not a big deal and he and other superheroes are much better equipped to deal with situations like these than average citizens.

Vigilante Justice Comes To Seattle

Bookmark and Share

The Rain City Superhero Movement has descended upon Seattle, Washington and is defending it’s streets from crime.  Part of a larger national effort of real-life crimefighters, average citizens are donning costumes, capes and secret identities and are handing out justice vigilante style.

In two instances in Seattle this brand of justice has almost resulted in tragedy as super heroes have come close to being shot after being mistaken as criminals.  Seattle police have identified nine individuals fighting crime, Thorn, Buster Doe, Green Reaper, Gemini, No Name, Catastrophe, Thunder 88, Penelope and Phoenix Jones the Guardian of Seattle.

Seattle police are doing their best to see who’s behind these super heroes and talking to them.  They’re worried that these heroes’ involvement will lead to injury as they do their best to prevent crime.  The police hope they’ll instead just be good witnesses in the fight to take back the streets.

According to the national superhero website, the characters don’t have to engage in violent fights to be a crime fighter, but should embody the values presented in super heroic comic books.

“Inspiration plays a major role in this, of course,” character Entomo wrote on the page. “You can inspire people to believe in a symbol.

“You can inspire people to believe they can CREATE themselves a symbol and embody it — and it’s not a lie.”

If In Tennessee, Beware the Viper

Bookmark and Share

We’ve been fascinated by real life super heroes and we’re not talking cops and firemen.  We’re referring to people who put on spandex and fight crime in the real world.  A college student in Columbia, Tenn. is putting on spandex and fighting crime through his alter ego, Viper.   While Viper normally reports the crime he witnesses to police, last week he found himself in hot water for violating a city ordinance banning masks in public.

According to WishTV 8:

Authorities say he was carrying a utility belt that was holding a screwdriver and wrenches. They say they also found ninja stars in his car.

The police let the super hero go, but encouraged him to leave the crime fighting to the professionals, the police.

While we normally have a net positive amount of new tickets in, this week we actually saw a decrease in overall outstanding tickets on top of the others we turned and burned for the week.

We closed out a total of 32 tickets this week and had an decrease of 1 more still outstanding tickets for a net of -33 tickets for the week.

Here’s where each of the Node and Enterprise clients stand of the beginning of this week:

Of Note: Nothing crazy to report from the DSCC, helped Jason with some account creation and roles/permissions.  The main DSCC seems to have calmed down about email deliverability.

Major Concern/Issue:  Campaigns are now the most vocal about email deliverability.  Press releases not reaching press contacts have cropped up again as an issue.

Of Note: I continue help the stragglers with their switch over and we’re manually pushing contributions.  Trainings begin this week for them this week.

Major Concern/Issue:  The append script is still the big issue.  I am going through org by org to figure out if it’s their data or the script itself.  The amount matched is all over the place with some orgs getting 99% at the state and federal level and others nowhere near that.

Of Note:  Same as last week – They’re time as an enterprise client is coming up, I suggest we extend it as a lot of their issues won’t be solved for a while.  They have very specific membership needs that need to be worked through and the “form generator” should be able to help with some of this.

Major Concern/Issue:  Same as last week – They are really into chapters and the fact the chapter field can’t be used like normal fields and added to a page complicates things.  That’s been added as a feature request.  They also have some long term event needs and membership management needs I’m helping them through.

Cincinnati Gets A Superhero

Like the comic book Kick-Ass, real life individuals are donning tights and keeping our city streets safe.  Cincinnati has a new protector of it’s streets, Shadow Hare.  We’re serious.  A 21 year old man from Milford is stalking the streets making the city safe from the what we assume is the scourge of jay-walking, and littering.

Shadow Hare isn’t new to the superhero game having previous stints in other states and even being part of a crime fighting group.  According to WLWT:

Shadowhare is not alone in his quest to fight crime. He heads up a group of men — and one woman — called the “Allegiance of Heroes.” The members communicate with each other in online forums. Among the members are Aclyptico in Pennsylvania, Wall Creeper in Colorado and Master Legend in Florida.

“I’ve even teamed up with Mr. Extreme in California — San Diego — and we were trying to track down a rapist,” said Shadowhare.

I’m glad our constumed crime fighters are keeping the rough cities safe.  And of course in this age you can check out Shadowhare’s MySpace page.  I’m thinking we’re going to have to make this a regular series.
