DC Comics announces the all-ages C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table by Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo

DC Comics has announced that Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo are reuniting for a fresh all-ages take on an old legend in a new DC comic book series launching on September 10, 2025, with C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table! Taylor and Di Nicuolo will team up with colorist Rain Beredo and letterer Wes Abbott to bring a new kind of hero to DC in this original IP comic book series!

For centuries, an elite force known as the Camelot Corps has protected ancient secrets, waiting for the day when these myths are needed by the world. That day is today.

Young Fel, Connor, and their friends are stunned when they’re almost crushed by a giant stone falling from the sky. Their lives are changed forever when they find a sword stuck fast in the stone. Fel pulls the sword from the stone, her friends all receive their own Arthurian legend, and the game is on for a new generation of champions!

These children of destiny will soon face a great evil. But they won’t do so alone. For these friends have been chosen to wield ancient, magical weapons. Great weapons bonded to knights of legend. Weapons that… speak? Weapons that argue. The bickering weapons are fused with the spirits of the Knights of the Round Table, and the kids have been chosen to wield these weapons as a new dark age falls upon the world.

With the evil Mordred’s power growing, the fate of the world rests in the hands of these new Children of the Round Table!

C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table #1 arrives in comic shops and digital platforms on September 10, 2025, and will be available to preorder and add to pull lists beginning Friday, June 20. C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table #1 will be 40 pages, followed by 32-page comics for the remainder of the run.

C.O.R.T.: Children of the Round Table will launch with a main cover by Di Nicuolo and variant covers by Darko Lafuente and Nicoletta Baldari. New Avengers #1 kicks off a new dysfunctional team that blends the Thunderbolts and Avengers

New Avengers #1

Carnage. The Hulk. Namor. Clea. Wolverine. Five of the most dangerous loners and antiheroes in the Marvel Universe. Nothing could make them work together…but Bucky Barnes and the Black Widow are going to give it a shot. Demented duplicates of the Illuminati are threatening the world, and if they figure out how to work together, they’ll be as unstoppable as the originals. Bucky and Natasha need allies who will do anything to take the duplicates out – but wrangling a team of killers and monsters presents its own dangers. Welcome to the New Avengers – hope you survive the experience! New Avengers #1 kicks off a new team with some familiar faces and a concept that’s usually under a different series name.

Written by Sam Humphries, New Avengers #1 feels a bit of a mix of Avengers and Thunderbolts with a team comprising of individuals who haven’t always been on the right side of things and whose tactics can be a bit explosive. What’s interesting is, the series takes place firmly in the world of “One World Under Doom,” but doesn’t feature its branding nor does it seem to really focus on that beyond a quick mention. Instead, the comic follows familiar tropes with this sort of story and team. There’s a dangerous mission, and we’re introduced to each member during the mission in a flashy way which is accompanied to a flashback of their recruitment. It’s all pretty standard but there’s just something about it that makes it a fun read.

Tom Lima‘s art is pretty good with some solid style that echoes earlier volumes of New Avengers. Lima is joined by Rain Beredo on color and lettering by Joe Sabino and the look of the comic mixes action and sexiness. There’s something about the comic that creates a flirtiness mixed with all of the destruction and death. There are some small issues with characters looking a bit odd in in a panel here and there, but overall, it’s an art style that really pops and embraces the chaos of the action.

Whether you’re a fan of this type of storytelling and concept really is the determination if you should get New Avengers #1. It’s a solid debut and the team dynamics are interesting so far. But, it falls into that “dysfunctional team” category of concepts, which is usually a Thunderbolts series, which can be hit and miss. The first issue definitely shows off potential though and we’re sure this series will play into the future of the Marvel comic universe in a big way. So, no matter your interest, this is one to keep your eyes on.

DCeased is a nice spin on the zombie genre and perfect to sit back and just enjoy

THE END IS HERE!

Six hundred million people. That’s how many fall victim when a mysterious techno-organic virus is unleased on Earth. Six hundred million infected. Six hundred million turned into mindless, rampaging killers bent on death and destruction.

And that’s just the beginning.

Cities. Nations. Undersea kingdoms and paradise islands. One by one, they fall to the monstrous hordes. Now only Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the Justice League stand between Earth and utter annihilation…

But for how long?

Nothing they’ve ever faced has prepared them for an onslaught of this magnitude. Nothing they’ve ever seen can match the scale of the tragedy and terror that have been unleased. As heroes and villains, gods and monsters are wiped out, only one question remains: What happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?

Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance Alpha #1 is a thrilling debut

Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance Alpha #1

As an avid comic reader, I enjoyed the comics from my preteen years. This was before all the bigwigs at Image left their jobs at DC and Marvel to form the company which has shown that is more than force in the comics industry. That era gave us some of the best books. I remembered getting into X-Men, not because of Chris Claremont, whom I discovered later, but because of Jim Lee’s art.

It was during that time when I found out why Wolverine was everyone’s favorite character. The animated show that came out only affirmed the reason why. Then came Hugh Jackman’s portrayal, which made him iconic. In the debut issue of Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance, Wolverine teams up with Ghost Rider to hunt a mutant serial killer, one which ties these two.

WE fine Johnny looking for Wolverine in the darkest of places, which makes him wonder why after all this time? We go back in time to a  flashback, where Wolverine and Professor Xavier meet a prospective student, but what Xavier sees is too disturbing for him to admit the boy.  AS his suspicion was right, as he was something more monstrous, as he kills the other children at his orphanage and he comes back to Xavier’s School aiming to take them out as well.  By issue’s end, he would escape  but Wolverine in pursuit would run into  Ghost Rider, leading to their 1st meeting and the reason for the meeting in present day, to put this monster down, once and for all.

Overall, Ghost Rider/Wolverine: Weapons of Vengeance Alpha #1 is a thrilling debut that sees our favorite antagonists get some payback. The story by Percy is amazing. The art by the creative team is astounding. Altogether, it’s a story that fans of these two characters will absolutely love.

X-Men: The Hellfire Gala 2023 delivers shocks we’ve seen before

X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1

Warning Spoilers(?)

“Welcome to the X-Men. Hope you survive the experience.” That has been said quite a lot over the years. So much that it’s become a joke. It’s a joke based on a truth. The X-Men have a high body count among its members where massacres, genocide, mass killings, mass murder, are all regular events. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that this year’s X-Men: The Hellfire Gala treads that rather overused “shock” to the extreme.

Each years’ X-Men: The Hellfire Gala has been a flag planted in the ground. The one-shot not only introduces a new team of X-Men but also sets up the year to come. It has done that with over the top moments that take the X-Men on an even grander scale. One re-introduced them to the world. Another terraformed a planet. Now, in 2023 we get a new “mutant massacre.”

Written by Gerry Duggan, X-Men: The Hellfire Gala crumbles the excess and grand concepts that were started years ago in House of X/Powers of X. I had problems with those concepts. They took what were a minority group that any minority could see themselves in and instead had themselves declaring they’re the “new gods” with a sovereign nation, acting benevolent while manipulating history, and overall flirting with nationalism. The X-Men have been torn asunder, forced back to their roots, hated, hunted, and a fraction of their population.

And when I say fraction, I mean fraction. While what has happened is sure to be undone to some level in the future, the sprawling cast is now but a handful and that is part of the problem with the issue. We’ve seen this all before. Many times. So, the only way to go is bigger. WAY BIGGER. It’s been done before so much “mutant massacre” is used in the comic. That’s just a bit of the stilted and at times dodgy dialogue from Duggan.

The comic features an X-Men squad worth of artists (maybe two squads). Adam Kubert, Luciano Vecchio, Matteo Lolli, Russell Dauterman, Javier Pina, R.B. Silva, Joshua Cassara, Kris Anka, and Pepe Larraz all contribute. Rain Beredo, Ceci De La Cruz, Matthew Wilson, Erick Arciniega, and Marte Gracia all provide color. The art is pretty solid with some muddled moments and a few panels that don’t quite work (what’s up with Cyclops’ hair in the beginning). It delivers the shock the story sets up and visuals that almost have the impact intended. Maybe if I wasn’t so jaded in this direction, the art would feel grander. But the art in some ways feels reserved, eschewing too many multi page spreads for packed pages and panels.

X-Men: The Hellfire Gala is entertaining in its own ways, but its shock at this point has little emotional impact. It’s been there. Done that. X-Men: The Hellfire Gala sets up an intriguing new direction for the X-Men to come. The idea of Wilson Fisk aiding the X-Men is intriguing. Nightcrawler’s teased direction has potential. The direction for Ms. Marvel is far too clear (the comic isn’t subtle in its foreshadowing). It returns the X-Men to their roots shifting them away from the benevolent gods of the past few years. Like Orchis, the comic delivers a swift brutal attack on the status quo for the line, leaving it in shatters and leaving lots of potential.
