All-New Pathfinder: Hollow Mountain Debuts in November

Dynamite Entertainment and Paizo, Inc. have announced the upcoming November release of Pathfinder: Hollow Mountain #1, the first chapter in a six-issue comic book miniseries. The series will be written by the collaborative team of game developers Erik Mona, F. Wesley Schneider, and James Sutter, and feature artwork by Tom Garcia, recently the illustrator of Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly. Each issue contains an RPG appendix detailing part of the Hollow Mountain dungeon (with poster map) and a write-up of one of the new characters.

Hollow Mountain draws iconic Pathfinder heroes Valeros, Seoni, Kyra, Merisiel, and more deep into an ancient fortress built by the runelords, the archvillains of the franchise. Carved in the immense visage of Alaznist, Runelord of Wrath, the Hollow Mountain is home to a honyecomb labyrinth of trap-laden chambers and corridors. The team of Pathfinder agents must explore the ruins in search of a magical artifact from the runelords’ day, but they aren’t the only adventurers interested in the mountain’s secrets. Open combat between the rivals will ensue… but Alaznist has not left her former stronghold unprotected, and fearsome guardians will force some rather uncomfortable alliances.

Pathfinder: Hollow Mountain #1 will be shipping in November 2015.

This Memorial Day weekend, nearly 1000 Pathfinder fans converged on Seattle for four days of gaming, seminars, special events, meet & greets with the Pathfinder design team, and to get exclusive previews of the new Pathfinder products in development for the coming year. Attendees of PaizoCon were the first to hear of the new Adventure Path for the Pathfinder RPG, Hell’s Vengeance. The forthcoming Pathfinder RPG: Bestiary 5 was also announced at PaizoCon. Inside Bestiary 5 lurk hundreds of new monsters ready for use in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. From the death-dealing grim reaper, menacing deep ones, and the ground-shaking wood colossus, to allies such as whimsical leshi, inscrutable esoteric dragons, and the powerful aerial servant, players will face-off against creatures that threaten body and soul. Pathfinder RPG: Bestiary 5, scheduled for release in November 2015, is the fifth hardcover volume of monsters for use with the Pathfinder RPG, and includes:

  • More than 300 different monsters
  • Creatures that can warp the minds of their victims, including the caller in darkness, thought eater, and the bizarre brain mole

  • Appendices to help find the right monster, including lists by Challenge Rating, monster type, and habitat
  • Expanded universal monster rules to simplify combat
  • Challenges for every adventure and every level of play
  • And much, much more

The Pathfinder RPG is built on a history of wildly popular open playtests, and this year fans can contribute to the development of Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Ultimate Intrigue, the new Pathfinder hardcover that delves into the shadows, where charm, grace, innuendo, and insult may be more powerful than a sharp sword or spell. The Ultimate Intrigue Open Playtest will launch in mid-June, and details will be released on the Paizo blog soon.

Paizo Announces a New Core Campaign for the Pathfinder Society

pathfinder logoPaizo Inc., publisher of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, have announced a new campaign mode for its popular Pathfinder Society Organized Play global roleplaying game campaign. This new mode of play, called the Pathfinder Society Core Campaign, will use the basic game established in the bestselling Pathfinder RPG: Core Rulebook to offer a streamlined gaming experience, limited scenario replay, and a simpler entry-point for new players.

The goal is to make the Pathfinder Society more accessible and fun to play as possible. This change has come after feedback from the community, and this provides an easier way for new players to enjoy the RPG.

The standard Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign, now in its seventh year, remains unchained, offering a wealth of character options drawn from Paizo’s entire library of Pathfinder supplements. Both campaign modes use the same Pathfinder Society scenarios, four-hour fantasy adventures designed to challenge player skill and group cooperation.

In the new Core Campaign, player character options such as race, class, feats, and equipment are limited to those included in the Pathfinder RPG: Core Rulebook and the free Campaign Traits document. Additional treasures, rewards, and character options are unlocked as players complete scenarios, as listed upon the chronicle sheets distributed at the conclusion of each scenario.

A player may play each Pathfinder Society scenario twice, once with a Core Campaign character and once with a standard Pathfinder Society organized play character, allowing a robust replay option for the first time since the launch of the campaign. A character must belong to either the Core Campaign or the standard campaign—not both. At any time a Core Campaign character may transition into the standard campaign, but no standard campaign character may transition to the Core Campaign.

With the launch of Core Campaign, players have four new Pathfinder Society play opportunities each month, as both players and GMs. The Core Campaign, launching today, is open to new and veteran players, and the current campaign remains unchanged.
