First Freedom: The Story of Opal Lee and Juneteenth

(W) Angélique Roché (A) Alvin Epps, Bex Glendining, Millicent Monroe
(C) Damali Beatty (L) Alexis Bennett with Andworld Design

First Freedom: The Story of Opal Lee and Juneteenth was created with the support and involvement of both Dr. Lee and her granddaughter, Mrs. Dione Sims, and is brought to life by three distinguished artists. Writer Angélique Roché conducted in-person interviews with Dr. Lee and immersed herself in extensive research for the book. The ambitious biography, which includes back matter that provides more insights into Juneteenth’s history and the making of the graphic novel, will be released 46 years after Juneteenth was first recognized as a statewide holiday by the state of Texas and five years since it was finally recognized as a national federal holiday. The book will also be published as part of a yearlong celebration of Opal Lee’s 100th year on Earth.

Born on October 7, 1926, in Marshall, Texas, Opal Lee grew up in a racially divided America and dedicated her life to overcoming the obstacles presented therein. A lifelong educator, Dr. Lee has been a community activist all her life, and she would take on the movement to celebrate and commemorate Juneteenth not just as a holiday, but as a symbol of comprehensive freedom for all people.I n June 2021the then-94-year-old Dr. Lee sat in the front row as an honored guest at the White House as President Joe Biden signed the bill to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. Dr. Opal’s life personifies the fight for everyday freedoms that leads to lasting change – and as the Grandmother of Juneteenth says, “There is so much more to do.”

After The End, Everything is Over in Rick and Morty Forever #0 – A Double-Sized, 48-Page Comic Book Milestone Farewell Coming in May!

Oni Press and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products have announced Rick and Morty Forever #0 a gargantuan, 48-page spectacular bidding fond farewell to Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith’s 100+ comic book issue run at Oni as we hurtle them back into the void from which they came in one last shamelessly transparent promotional stunt arriving on May 27th from nigh-omnipotent writer Daniel Kibblesmith and franchise über-veteran Troy Little! Plus: In one last expectation-defying fit of pique, this double-sized, super-key, ultra-milestone and soon-to-be-slabbed testament to greatness features the most surprising twist of all: only one cover! Even better: It’s a wraparound (!!) etched into immortality in stunning silver foil (!!!) as rendered by the incomparable Troy Little (!!!!) himself!

Yes, the rumors are true (because we keep announcing them ourselves) Oni Press, unsatisfied with the end of THE END proudly presents Rick and Morty Forever, the final issue of Oni Press’ immortal run on the sci-fi, dimension-hopping, foul-mouthed, pretentiously beautiful, intellectual temper tantrum turned cultural phenomenon known as Rick and Morty.

How do you punish the smartest man in the universe? Show him everything—everything—he’s ever wanted to know or see, and afford him no power to do anything about it. Rick Sanchez, the destroyer of worlds. Now he sits in endless observation of all there is to see, tortured by cosmic impotence, the ultimate expression of “go to your room and think about what you did.”

But in his endless torment, Rick realizes that a fate of unspeakable horror also awaits his unwitting companion: his grandson, Morty. Can Rick save the soul of the only being that ever stood by him through all his indiscretions? Can the transformative power of love give rise to the triumph of the human spirit? Or is everything just #@$%@?

Oni Press celebrates an honest-to-goodness comic book milestone more than a decade in the making as Rick and Morty Forever #0 portals into comic shops for one last hurrah in a 48-page barrage of shock and awe – and sporting just one foil-licous cover from omniversal legend Troy Little – arriving on May 27th!

Plus, also in May: Before FOREVER seals the deal on this eternal goodbye, Daniel Kibblesmith and Jarrett Wiliams begin their final statement on Rick on and Morty’s wildly off-the-rails mentor-pupil relationship in Rick and Morty: The End #5 (of 5) – on sale April 8! Does that make Rick and Morty Forever #0 an actual finale or more of a denouement? Only your local comic shop retailer knows for sure – be sure to ask them, they love this question!

Oni Press and Magnetic Press Unleash The Beast – The First English-Language Edition of World-Renowned Artist Frank Pé’s Final Graphic Novel

THE BEAST THAT INSPIRED AN ANIMATED SERIES, A FEATURE FILM, AND A VIDEO GAME IS MAKING HIS COMIC DEBUT IN AMERICA! Oni Press and Magnetic Press are releasing the first-ever English edition of The Beast by internationally celebrated creators Zidrou and Frank Pé. Featuring the creators’ heartfelt spin on André Franquin’s iconic creature, the Marsupilami, this touching graphic novel explores post-WWII Brussels through the eyes of a lonely young boy and his unlikely friend. The one-of-a-kind adventure begins when The Beast Vol. 1 debuts on May 12th.

The Marsupilami first appeared in Franquin’s 1952 Spirou as Spirou’s lovable pet. From there, the fictional feline and other members of the marsupilami species won the hearts of Franco-Belgian readers before evolving into a multimedia empire featuring an animated series, a feature film, and even a Sega Genesis video game. Now, Zidrou and Pé are throwing the adorable, playful creature into the harsh world of animal trafficking and post-war Europe.

Captured in the heart of Palombia by Chahuta Indians and sold to exotic animal traffickers, a marsupilami lands in the port of Antwerp in the 1950s. Managing to escape, he arrives in the suburbs of Brussels and is taken in by François, a young boy who is a fan of animals and whose daily life is far from easy. François is picked on by the local kids, particularly because his father had been a German soldier, an unforgivable crime in those postwar years; a fact he and his mother cannot escape. Both are ostracized for their connection to past events.

Throughout his prolific career, writer Zidrou has written everything from humorous children’s series like L’élève Ducobu to emotionally rich, challenging graphic novels such as The Adoption. The Beast highlights the esteemed scribe’s dynamic range and shines a light on artist Frank Pé’s playful, expressive art that has earned him critical acclaim around the globe as a cartoonist and fine artist. Pé passed away in November 2025, leaving a highly respected body of work, including Zoo and his personal tribute to Windsor McCay’s Little Nemo. This graphic novel is the culmination of a lifetime of gorgeous art. Readers can see two masters at work when The Beast: Vol. 1 arrives in bookstores and comic shops on May 12th, with The Beast: Vol. 2 due out in June.

Matt Kindt Declassifies MIND MGMT: New & Improved #1 – Coming in June! Get a First Look!

NEW AGENTS. NEW MISSION. NEW BEGINNING. . . Oni Press and Flux House revealed a first look inside of MIND MGMT: New & Improved #1 – the FIRST ISSUE of an all-new, entirely self-contained entry point into the genre-bending, Eisner Award-nominated series that Entertainment Weekly calls “one of the most experimental and fascinating books in mainstream comics.” Sit back, relax, and feel your pulse steadily escalate to dangerous levels of over-adrenalized anxiety as New York Times best-selling creator and multiple Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Matt Kindt returns to the scene of his definitive statement on the art of psychic espionage.

Ten years ago, the extra-governmental agency known as Mind Management exploded in a barrage of bullets and brain matter. Those that survived have gone underground – forging new lives with unremarkable identities and falsified pasts to obfuscate the strange abilities that once made them highly prized assets in the global war for psychic control. Now, two investigators – Detective Delphi and Detective Swan – have found themselves at the center of an unexpected puzzle. Here: A man poisoned in a coffee shop with a sophisticated neurotoxin. There: A supposed suicide victim run over by a train … with his arms found in a trashcan five miles from the tracks. Their connection: Someone is killing former Mind Management agents in improbable and arcane ways … Seemingly impossible crimes committed by a faceless killer capable of evading even the most pervasive digital surveillance. What secret are they killing to protect? Who will be next? Has Mind Management returned? Did it ever go away? You are paranoid … but are you paranoid enough?

MIND MGMT: New & Improved #1 will arrive in comic shops in June 2026.

Oni Press and Magnetic Press Traverse a Mythical Forest in Hana and Taru from Léo Schilling and Motteux

RISING STARS FROM FRANCE PRESENT A FANTASTIC FABLE FOR FANS OF MIYAZAKI! Oni Press and Magnetic Press have revealed Hana and Taru, the graphic novel debut of writer Léo Schilling and artist Motteux. This beautifully drawn graphic novel will transport readers to a fantastical world of giant beasts, ancient warriors, and stubborn troublemakers on May 12th.

Deep in an ancient forest, young Taru feels like a misfit among her tribe of hunter-warriors. As she tries to make her mark in the adult world, she finds herself marginalized as much for her naïveté as for her radical ideas, which are dismissed by her mother and peers as nonsense. She is responsible for watching a prisoner—Hana, a young human with a mysterious past who has been captured by Taru’s tribe. Hana provides Taru with both solace and an opportunity to find her own way. When Taru’s village is once again attacked by giant rampaging forest beasts, the unlikely pair will work together to try to understand the uncontrollable and deadly force that threatens them.

Léo Schilling and Motteux both made their graphic novel debut with the French release of Hana and Taru, and English-speaking audiences are sure to be clamoring for more from this dynamic duo as they explore this heartfelt celebration of nature, friendship, and imagination when Hana and Taru arrives in bookstores and comic shops on May 12th.

Publisher: Oni Press (February 4, 2026)
Length: 40 pages
ISBN13: 9798894889757

But when she’s recruited by a mysterious program that seeks to study her latent telepathic abilities inside a deep-underground military base, she starts down a path she was maybe always traveling… a path that reaches a major crossroads when she meets the ethereal Lyriana and finds her long-lost spiritual connection in the process. But when Lyriana suddenly disappears, Adeline must question the true nature of her new masters… and test the limits of her abilities to see if love truly is eternal.
