Modiphius takes us to Gerry Anderson’s Space: 1999 with a new TTRPG later this year

Space: 1999 The Roleplaying Game

Publisher of tabletop RPGs, wargames, and board games, Modiphius Entertainment has announced that it will partner with Anderson Entertainment to produce a tabletop roleplaying game based on the successful 70’s sci-fi TV show, Space: 1999.

Space: 1999 was the second major live action science fiction series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson after UFO. It debuted in 1975 and ran for 24 episodes over two seasons and was widely broadcast around the World. The show offered a vision of humanity in the ‘far future’ of the year 1999. In the series, the moon is blasted out of Earth’s orbit after an accidental explosion and flung into deep space, the crew of Moonbase Alpha are left to face many challenges humanity is not yet ready for.

Utilising Modiphius’ award-winning 2d20 system, the tabletop RPG is set in 1999 as humanity is poised to take its first steps into the universe. ‘Moonbase Alpha’ has been in development since 1989 and after several expansions covers four kilometres, with numerous sub levels under the moon’s surface and some of the surface buildings rising as high as three storeys. Players can choose to be an adventurous pilot, a stalwart security guard, a bold commander, an audacious medic or any one of the 311 inhabitants of the base. Whatever you choose, each mission puts the future of Moonbase Alpha in your hands. What will you do to rise to the challenge on the frontier of space?

Modiphius and Anderson will be working together to produce a core book for Space: 1999 which will offer a simplified introduction to the 2d20 system, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned TTRPG-ers. Players can also pick up a copy of Space: 1999 Moonbase Alpha Technical Operations Manual from The Gerry Anderson store, which will act as a companion product and serve as a complete guide to the world of Space: 1999.

Modiphius Launches Five Parsecs from Home: Tactics Tabletop Game

Five Parsecs from Home: Tactics

Modiphius Entertainment has announced the pre-order for a stand-alone scenario-driven variation of the popular Five Parsecs from Home tabletop game, Five Parsecs from Home: Tactics.

The new variation takes adventure wargaming from starports and back alleys to the battlefields of Unified Space. This scenario-focused version of Five Parsecs from Home is all about creativity, where players can make their own scenarios for the troops they choose.

The new game can be played solo or with friends, in single games or campaigns, with or without a Game Master. It also allows players to take Five Parsecs beyond small skirmishes to multi-unit battles: big tanks, big monsters, big events, and platoons of troops slugging it out. It features an array of troops, characters, creatures, and situations and is packed with random tables to keep players facing the unexpected.

Five Parsecs from Home: Tactics is also a stand-alone game, yet fully compatible with the original 5PFH game, with rules for transferring characters and events between the systems.

Players can choose from multiple game modes including campaign gaming, pick-up play, solo gaming or combined games, which involves blending these options.

Modiphius Entertainment acquires Strato Minis Studio and Mech Wargame Hardwar

Modiphius Entertainment has announced that it has acquired Strato Minis Studio including the complete Hardwar, Retrobots, and Stratoyager game and miniature lines from their international creators.

The acquisition includes Hardwar – a 6mm scale miniatures range and game set in the turn of the twenty-second century with fast-paced tactical rules and a hard sci-fi setting covering armour, mechs, air and seacraft in both 6mm and other scales, and Stratoyager – the game of space fighter combat.

The Hardwar line will be released in waves, starting with a reprint of the core rulebook that will include the previous content from the Extended Hardware and No Heroes PDFs. This will be followed by a selection of Starter Sets, with the aim of getting new people playing in the universe and building anticipation for the future of Hardwar.

Hardwar is a hard sci-fi setting that uses an innovative system to recreate fast-paced tactical combat between mechs, armour and air forces. It features straightforward rules allowing a mix of classic armoured warfare, with mechs, spacecraft, exotic experimental weapons, cybernetics, sentient combat swarms and ECM.

In Hardwar, players can immerse themselves in a variety of roles, from starting a private security company or becoming a corporate commander delivering shareholders’ demands to leading a revolutionary force, being a small-time dictator or a noble wasteland marshal charged with protecting farmsteads.

Modiphius will produce a quickstart PDF, which will allow people to try Hardwar for free. The publisher will also be developing a solo/co-op game to let you play a procedurally generated campaign with a growing armoured force.

Modiphius to Publish Ubisoft’s Heroes of Might & Magic Tabletop RPG

Modiphius Entertainment has announced a licensing agreement with Ubisoft to bring the epic storyline of the cult video game franchise Heroes of Might & Magic to the tabletop.

Modiphius will be partnering with Polish developer Lans Macabre, who are huge fans of the property and will be developing the game using the Modiphius 2d20 RPG system. The game will be launched with a crowdfunding campaign in early 2025 for a late 2025 release into retail.

The game is set in the World of Enroth, the settings of the first three Heroes of Might & Magic instalments in the series, and players will be able to relive some of the most epic and memorable moments in the saga, starting with “The Restoration of Erathia”, the crusade of Queen Catherine Ironfist to restore her Kingdom and uncover a conspiracy.

This is the first high-fantasy edition of the 2d20 system. It will set players as legendary heroes who are key figures able to call on the resources of a nation and lead formidable armies of diverse combatants drawn from the myriad of species that inhabit the world into daring assaults and venerable last stands. Players will be able to control multiple characters and immerse themselves in a world shaped by their actions according to their whims. They will face challenges of mythical proportions, in a reflection of the popular fantasy franchise.
