Void Rivals #3 continues the Transformers dive

Void Rivals #3

Fighting for their lives to return to the Sacred Ring, Darak and Solila face a new threat-capture! And they’re not the only prisoners on this ship… Void Rivals #3 continues the fun connect the dots to Transformers like the first two issues.

Written by Robert Kirkman, Void Rivals kicked off the new “Energon Universe.” It was the teaser that Transformers and G.I. Joe had a home with Skybound. Each issue has added small teasers from Transformers without diving completely in the deep end. Void Rivals #3 continues that with the reveal of yet another classic Transformers character… or really I should say alien race. At its heart, Void Rivals is about two people from warring races having to work together, but the fun is seeing what’s teased next.

Darak and Solila, the rivals, are trapped on a Skuxxoid ship and now have to figure out how to get off. Once again, they’re given then choice as to whether they will work together or go their separate ways. In the ship, we get to see more of the universe and at least one reveal Transformers fans will appreciate.

The art by Lorenzo De Felici is solid. With color by Matheus Lopes and lettering by Rus Wooton, Void Rivals #3 looks good. What’s great is it all feels like it fits in the Transformers/G.I. Joe world but also stands on its own. The familiar characters all are quickly recognizable in De Felici’s style yet would fit right into Transformers comics and animation that has come before. There’s also a solid control of the environment. It’d be easy to go over the top with its sci-fi aspects but the comic is reserved in some ways. It’s great work all around.

Void Rivals #3 is another issue that’ll have you pointing and saying “ooo ooo ooo” when the reference is revealed. The main story itself is decent and gets intriguing at the end but so far it’s seeing the connections that have been the real draw. While Void Rivals #3 isn’t a must for Transformers fans, it’s a fun one to pick up.

Rafael Grampá’s Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham debuts on Batman Day

Rafael Grampá’s dynamic art style has earned him legions of fans worldwide and this September Grampá brings his talents to Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham, a new DC Black Label limited series. The new series debuts Saturday, September 16, Batman Day!

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham brings Grampá’s twisted vision of both the Dark Knight and the city of Gotham to life in a tale that reaches its icy black tendrils into the deepest and darkest corners of human nature to leave you gasping for breath—and begging for more!

In a Gotham City where every day feels darker and more irredeemable than the last, Batman makes a definitive choice—to kill off the Bruce Wayne identity for good and embrace the cape and cowl full-time. But though he knows the streets of Gotham, Batman will soon come to find that he hardly knows himself. A serial killer is on the loose, and while the murder victims seem random at first, every clue draws Batman closer to the terrifying truth—that they are all connected, not just to each other, but to him as well. When an all-new rogues gallery of utterly depraved villains begins to emerge from the depths of the city, Batman will have to contend with the very nature of evil—including that which lurks in the darkest corners of his own heart—to face what is coming for the city he has sworn to protect.

In addition to Grampá’s breathtaking cover and interior art, a who’s who of comic book luminaries lend their talents to this debut issue in the form of some incredible variant covers.

Fan-favorite artist Jim Lee will be providing a variant cover (featuring colors by series colorist Matheus Lopes), with additional variants from comic book icon and Golden Child collaborator Frank Miller and renowned Batman artist David Finch. A black-and-white version of Lee’s cover will be available as a 1-in-25 “ratio” variant, along with a 1-in-50 variant cover by Priscilla Petraites, a 1-in-100 variant cover from Paul Pope, and a 1-in-250 black-and-white variant cover by Miller, also based on his cover art.

Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham #1 will also be available (at participating retailers) in a “noir” version, showcasing the complete first issue (art and letters) of the story in vivid black and white.

Skybound’s Void Rivals launches the Transformers and G.I. Joe’s “Energon Universe”

Two of the world’s most popular franchises – Transformers and G.I. Joe – have a new comic book home as part of the historic partnership between Hasbro and Skybound

Comic book fans who picked up their copies of Void Rivals #1 in comic shops today were the first to learn the news, as the writer Robert Kirkman and artist Lorenzo De Felici, along with colorist Matheus Lopes and letterer Rus Wooton, revealed that the highly anticipated series was actually a stealth launch of this new shared “Energon Universe” with the surprise first appearance of iconic Transformers character Jetfire.

Three upcoming releases, alongside Void Rivals, mark the beginning of the interconnected “Energon Universe” featuring both the characters and franchises you know and love, along with entirely new concepts developed in partnership by Hasbro and Skybound.

Launching in October, Transformers #1 begins an all-new era for the iconic robots in disguise from superstar creator Daniel Warren Johnson and colorist Mike Spicer. Optimus Prime was supposed to have led the Autobots to victory. Instead, the fate of Cybertron is unknown, and his allies have crash-landed far from home, alongside their enemies—the Decepticons. As these titanic forces renew their war on Earth, one thing is immediately clear: the planet will never be the same. New alliances are struck. Battle lines are redrawn. And humanity’s only hope of survival is Optimus Prime.

The new Energon Universe expands in December with Duke #1a limited series from Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly and Jordie Bellaire, that tells the story you’ve never read before – the origins of G.I. Joe and Cobra in a world grappling with the arrival of the Autobots and Decepticons. When Conrad S. Hauser (codename DUKE) investigates the mysteries behind The Transformers, the answers will lead to the birth of forces for good and evil that the world never imagined.

Duke will be the first of four G.I. Joe limited series coming from Skybound, setting the stage for a fresh new take on G.I. Joe, Cobra and the iconic characters that you only think you know!

This will be followed by the launch of Cobra Commander #1 in January 2024, from Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana and Annalisa Leoni. In a world where Cobra doesn’t exist, one man’s sinister plans to utilize the mysterious alien substance known as Energon will send shockwaves across the globe.

Void Rivals #1 (JAN238443) is available today at comic book shops and digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Fans can pre-order their copies of Transformers #1Duke #1, and Cobra Commander #1 right now at their local comic book shops.
