8 Bit Apocalypse (Abrams Press) – A look at the creation of Missil Command with interviews of major figures and a look at that era of video games.
Alpha Flight: True North #1 (Marvel) – It’s Alpha Flight, nuff said.
Battlepug #1 (Image Comics) – The webcomic is back as a new comic series. It’s been years since Knmundian save the world with his Battlepug but a new threat has them back for a new adventure!
Die #7 (Image Comics) – One of the best comics out today, it’s a must for those into roleplaying games.
Doomsday Clock #11 (DC Comics) – We’ve been waiting for the latest chapter of this series which has gotten better the longer its gone on.
Everything #1 (Dark Horse) – Everything is a new mega-department store that may have more to it than just the goods you want.
Going to the Chapel #1 (Action Lab: Danger Zone) – We’ve read the first issue and it’s solid. A wedding goes off the rails due to a robbery. Think Tarantino via comic books.
The Goon #6 (Albatross Funnybooks) – One of the most fun comics out there today. A great mix of action and humor and every issue has delivered and then some.
Legion of Super Heroes Millennium #1 (DC Comics) – The Legion is coming back and it all starts here!
Lois Lane #3 (DC Comics) – The series has been top-notch taking advantage of why Lois Lane stands out as a character. Excellent writing and solid art combine to make the series stand out and us wanting an ongoing.
Midnight Vista #1 (AfterShock) – Oliver and his stepfather are abducted by aliens and years later a grown adult Oliver returns… and remembers everything.
Something is Killing the Children #1 (BOOM! Studios) – Mysteries about kids getting killed seem to be on the rise in comics but we’re intrigued for another one.
Spawn #300 (Image Comics) – The series reaches the major number of 300 and we’re excited to see what’s inside for this historical moment.
Triage #1 (Dark Horse) – An interesting sci-fi series that has a nurse waking up in an unfamiliar world with two doppelgangers, one a young and snarky superhero and the other a hardened rebel military leader.
Web of Black Widow #1 (Marvel) – Black Widow gets the spotlight in this miniseries which focuses on her past.
The Wicked + The Divine #45 (Image Comics) – The beloved series comes to a close and what a finale it’ll be.
“Men of Steel and Women of Valor” is a new exhibition of papercuts by Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik that zooms from scripture to comics and back, incorporating pop culture pizzazz into an exploration of stories that have been told and retold for thousands of years — but never like this. The exhibition opens in Cleveland on September 6, 2019, at The Temple Museum of Jewish Art, Religion, and Culture.
At the heart of the exhibition is a series of large portraits made of cut-up comic books featuring Superman and Lois Lane, Daredevil and Elektra, the Fantastic Four — transformed into the biblical patriarchs and matriarchs, as well as modern figures. These portraits are a nod to the Jewish custom of inviting guests into one’s sukkah during the fall festival of Sukkot.
Brynjegard-Bialik’s work is emblematic of the 21st century’s mash-up culture, drawing parallels between comic book mythologies and religious traditions, delving into the stories that make us human.
This exhibition focuses heavily on Superman, created in Cleveland in the 1930s by two Jews, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster — portraits of whom are included in the show, made of cut-up Superman comics from the past 90
years.
The exhibition also includes portraits of Golda Meir, Israel’s first female prime minister, and Sally Priesand, America’s first female rabbi. The portraits share the walls with landscapes of Jerusalem, stories of fire and water and cloud, and explorations of the Mishnah — all made out of cut-up comic books. It’s a dynamic mash-up of old and new.
“Men of Steel and Women of Valor” will be open from September 6, 2019 through January 10, 2020, at The Temple Museum of Jewish Art, Religion and Culture at The Temple-Tifereth Israel in Cleveland, Ohio. The artist will be in the gallery for an opening weekend October 11-13, 2019.

Absolute Carnage #1 (Marvel) – Marvel’s big Spider-Man/Venom event officially kicks off and after such a long build-up, we’re excited to see where it goes.
Agents of Atlas #1 (Marvel) – We got a glimpse of this team during War of the Realms and we want to see more of these characters who definitely deserve more of the spotlight.
Coffin Bound #1 (Image Comics) – the first printing is already sold out. This one’s a hot commodity… if you can find it!
The Death-Defying Devil #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Gail Simone brings back this classic character.
Dead End Kids #1 (Source Point Press) – A coming of age tale during the 90s as friends need to deal with the murder of one of their own.
Future Foundation #1 (Marvel) – We’ve always been a fan of the Future Foundation so we’re beyond excited they’re back in their own series. Like the FF, they’ve been gone far too long.
House of X #2 (Marvel) – We want to see where Hickman takes this series.
Lois Lane #2 (DC Comics) – The first issue blew us away which has us more excited for the second.
No One Left to Fight #2 (Dark Horse) – For the die-hard manga fans out there. A great homage and love letter to the genre.
We’re a little over a week to go to San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and we’ve got lots leading up to the convention and our coverage at the convention itself. That begins today with an announcement concerning our involvement at the show! Stay tuned.
