Skullkickers is All-New, Secret in May

This May, Image Comics forces you to wonder why we keep pushing this silly comic book over and over again in a new adjective-laden comic called– The All-New Secret Skullkickers!

“We can’t stop now. It… it has a life of its own. This reboot-itis has permeated our souls,” said Image PR and Marketing Director Jennifer de Guzman. “I hated it at first but now it feels kind of good. Warm… safe… In a darkened world full of uncertainty it’s all we have left.”

The All-New Secret Skullkickers #1, written by promotional broken record Jim Zub and drawn by innocent mp3 Edwin Huang, continues the epic six-arc Skullkickers storyline on a haunted island of mystery, apes and rampant violence. It’s good.

“At this rate I figure we’re still a couple months away from using up any goodwill I might have built up in this industry,” said series creator Jim Zub. “This is the kind of thing that can happen when you let creators write their own press releases.”

If you’re a diehard collector of Skullkickers who’s sad that you won’t have a Skullkickers #22 to add to your collection, fret no longer. In addition to the regular “All-New Secret” cover we’re offering a special “issue #22 variant” B cover to make sure your numbers stay in order. You can tell everyone you started reading “before they became horrible sell-outs.”

“We’re sick. We can’t help it. Comic price guide makers will curse this stupid string of title changes for the rest of their natural lives.” The All-New Secret Skullkickers #1 will be available in May wherever fine comics are sold. Pre-order it now from the March issue of Previews and stop the hurting.

Skullkickers gets “Mighty”

BEST PRESS RELEASE THIS WEEK! – Brett

This April, Image Comics invites readers to keep jumping on board action and adventure with a big ol’ adjective shuffle in – The Mighty Skullkickers! Continuing their needling of a certain publisher.

“After twenty issues of critically-acclaimed bone-busting adventure, we felt it was important to re-remind retailers and readers that Skullkickers is the most enjoyable adventure series in the whole crazy comic industry,” said Image PR and Marketing Director Jennifer de Guzman. “And when you need people to take notice, you reboot that $#%@ just like the big boys do.”

Mighty Skullkickers #1, written by commercial sell-out Jim Zub and drawn by the young and impressionable Edwin Huang, continues the epic six-arc Skullkickers storyline. It’s good stuff. Really good. Tell your friends.

“Some jokes get funnier with time. Some adjectives describe a concept perfectly. When we sat down and discussed the ideas at the heart of Skullkickers, we realized all along it should have been called ‘Mighty’” says series creator Jim Zub. “Also, sales. Dirty, dirty sales.”

If you’re a diehard collector of Skullkickers who’s sad that you won’t have a Skullkickers #21 to add to your collection? Don’t worry, we’ve thought of everything. In addition to the regular “Mighty” cover we’re offering a special “issue #21 variant” B cover to make sure your collector streak is unbroken.

It’s back. It never left. It’s a restart that continues right where it left off. Mighty Skullkickers #1 will be available wherever kick-ass comics are sold on April 24! Pre-order it now from the February issue of Previews.

The Launch of Something “Savage”

This March, Image Comics invites readers to jump on board action and adventure, newly reinvigorated with another very special adjective—The Savage Skullkickers!

“The response to Uncanny Skullkickers was so tremendous that we knew we couldn’t just let something that was working remain unchanged,” said Image PR and Marketing Director Jennifer de Guzman. “Relaunching Skullkickers was a total game-changer! For a whole month, it wasn’t just plain Skullkickers. It was Uncanny! And now it’s going to be Savage! Game. Changer.”

Savage Skullkickers continues the epic Skullkickers storyline and is a perfect jumping-on point for new readers. Even more perfect than last month.

“With over 180 issues released over the past 20 years, Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon is one of the most compelling and consistent creator-owned comics ever made,” said creator Jim Zub. “In order to commemorate Erik’s hard work and strident ‘no relaunching, no renumbering’ approach to his series, we thought we’d relaunch and renumber Skullkickers, stealing his precious ‘Savage’ adjective while we’re at it. Thanks, Erik!”

And if you’re a diehard collector of Skullkickers sad that you won’t have a Skullkickers #20 to add to your collection? Don’t worry, we’ve thought of everything. In addition to the regular “Savage” cover by series artist (and, remember, adorable elf-man) Edwin Huang and Zub himself, we’re offering a special “issue #20 variant” B cover by Chris Stevens to make sure your collector streak is unbroken.

It’s new. It’s classic. It’s a modern reinterpretation that gets back to the roots of these timeless characters. Savage Skullkickers #1 is available wherever kick ass comics are sold starting this March.

P.S. Retailers: Rack this comic beside other new “Savage” comics you may have hanging around the shop. We won’t mind.

Uncanny Skullkickers Gives a (Re)Boot to the Head

Uncanny Skullkickers is everything for everyone,” so claimed the headline for the press release I received today. This February, Image Comics is inviting readers to jump on board action and adventure, newly reinvigorated with a very special adjective – The Uncanny Skullkickers!

Mocking a certain company’s habit of dropping adjectives into their titles and claiming something is new and exciting, Image felt their adding an adjective was a perfect way to remind readers how much fun Skullkickers is to read. And it is. After almost twenty issues, I’m still entertained by the series, it’s action and humor is up their with the best.

Uncanny Skullkickers, written by Jim Zub and drawn by Edwin Huang, begins the second half of the epic six-arc Skullkickers storyline and is a perfect jumping-on point for new readers of the action-comedy fantasy series. And who doesn’t want to be known as a reader of a comic about hard-headed mercenaries knocking heads for fun and profit? I mean, really.

And if you’re a diehard collector of Skullkickers who’s sad that you won’t have a Skullkickers #19 to add to your collection? Don’t worry, Image has thought of everything. In addition to the regular “Uncanny” cover they’re offering a special “issue #19 variant” B cover to make sure your collector streak is unbroken.

Uncanny Skullkickers #1 will available wherever kick-ass comics are sold on February 27! Pre-order it now from the December issue of Previews.
