Check out Joe Madureira’s X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 Covers

The Age of Apocalypse, the revolutionary ‘90s X-Men crossover, is reborn this September in X-Men of Apocalypse, a six-part event series by legendary scribe Jeph Loeb, a writer behind the original event, and Eisner nominated artist Simone Di Meo. Last month, Marvel Comics announced that Joe Madureira, another superstar creator who brought Age of Apocalypse to life, will draw a variant cover for each issue. The first of Madureira’s covers, for X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1, will also be available as two different virgin variant covers, one bloodier than the regular version and one in black and white. Fans can see all three versions of Joe Madureira’s X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 cover today.

Madureira transformed the look of the X-Books throughout the ‘90s with his distinct and innovative art style. Now, this highly influential artist returns to the franchise for the first time in decades with glorious depictions of the very characters he defined—the iconic X-Men of the Age of Apocalypse!

THE X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE CRASH INTO THE MAIN MARVEL UNIVERSE!

A dystopian future created when Charles Xavier was killed in a tragic time-travel accident, Age of Apocalypse is home to a wartorn group of X-Men led by Magneto. In order to free their Earth from Apocalypse’s cruel reign, they were willing to sacrifice their very existence—or so they thought! The main timeline was restored, Apocalypse was defeated, but their world lived on!

Taking place in the direct aftermath of the original crossover’s explosive finale, X-Men of Apocalypse reignites the mission of this iconic reality’s X-Men as they journey here to ensure their universe’s survival. This desperate mission will take them into the main Marvel Universe, where they will come into conflict with their classic counterparts, forever impacting both team’s destinies!

Mirroring the first Age of Apocalypse saga, X-Men of Apocalypse will kick off in X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1, continue through X-Men of Apocalypse #1-4 starting in November, and conclude in X-Men of Apocalypse Omega #1. Check out Joe Madureira’s variant covers for X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha #1 and preorder them at your local comic shop today!

DC’s Jim Lee and Ghost Machine’s Gary Frank Collaborate Across Publishers in Cover Swap

In what is an interesting “crossover,” two comic book legends just announced an intriguing collaboration. As DC’s Batman “H2SH” storyline from Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee continues to shatter sales records, and Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Geiger ongoing series remains a regular sell-out and cornerstone for Ghost Machine as one of Image’s top-selling monthly titles, industry icons Lee and Frank have teamed to provide covers for each other’s titles. Gary Frank has worked with DC previously on comics such as Doomsday Clock, Batman: Earth One, Action Comics, and more, and of course Jim Lee is one of the founders of Image Comics.

Lee’s Geiger cover, which will appear on October’s Geiger #19, is Lee’s first cover for Image since Spawn #200 in 2011. Frank’s Batman cover is scheduled to hit stores on Batman #163 in August.

Loeb and Lee’s current installment of their celebrated Batman: Hush comic book saga began in DC’s Batman #158 in March. This new run, collectively called “H2SH”, is running monthly for six issues through August’s Batman #163 and will conclude with six more issues in 2026.

Johns, Frank, Anderson and Leigh launched the ongoing Geiger series in April of 2024 and continues the story of Tariq Geiger, a man transformed into a powerful hero during the first strike of a nuclear war, and other unnamed heroes from throughout American history. October’s Geiger #19 features the return of Ashley Arden as her ongoing story of hunting human traffickers across a nuclear-war-ravaged America takes center stage and The Glowing Woman’s motivations and future become more clear.
