Double Booking Vol. 3 Fangs for the Memories

(W) Chas! Pangburn, Kim Shearer (A) Nic Touris (L) Chas! Pangburn

Another exciting, mysterious edition in the award-winning and beloved Double Booking series!

HIGH STAKES AND LOW NOTES!

Otto and Nan come to New Orleans for ghost tours, gumbo, and jazz—not to accidentally adopt an anemic vampire. But after splitting up for their own spooky adventures, both siblings cross paths with the same mysterious vampire musician, each uncovering a different piece of a long-buried family secret. What starts as a chaotic brother-sister trip turns into a heartfelt mission to reunite a reluctant undead jazzman with his music, his family, and the life he thought was long gone.

See both perspectives in this award-winning flip graphic novel series, written by real-life siblings Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer. TWO stories, TWO unique perspectives, and TWO different art styles–all in ONE book! However, in order to get the full tale, readers have to read BOTH sides of the story. Humor, action, the supernatural, emotional beats, and educational components—it’s an adventure for all!

My Friend Kim Jong Un is an interesting look at the mysterious leader and the shadow of North Korea

Award-winning cartoonist Keum Suk Gendry-Kim contemplates and explores the long shadow North Korea casts over Korean society

On an island located an hour from Seoul, North Korea sits visible from cartoonist Keum Suk Gendry-Kim’s home and studio. The specter of the infamous dictatorship and nuclear power looms over daily life. Artillery fire, helicopters, and sirens from a nearby military base paint the acoustic landscape. In her award-winning books Grass and The Waiting, Gendry-Kim documents the pain and heartbreak of Korea’s history. In My Friend Kim Jong-Un, she looks to the present—to the man currently responsible for upholding the national divide created after World War Two.

While the rest of the world partakes in the popularity of Korean culture, a certain unease and anxiety hangs in the air in South Korea as its people still grapple with the distrust and anger of one culture split into two distinct societies. Gendry-Kim explores the life of the supreme leader, searching for commonalities to make sense of the daily fear: from his birth to his international education, his hobbies, and his relationships. She weaves her personal accounts and includes interviews with former South Korean president Moon Jae-in, North Korean defectors, researchers, journalists, and even Kim’s former chef.

Translated by the award-winning Janet Hong, My Friend… is a cautionary tale on what makes a dictator, at a time when these lessons are more relevant in the West than ever.

Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco are going on tour for Requiem for Gaza

In the spring of 2025, the cartoonist Joe Sacco, author of Palestine and Footnotes in Gaza, and Chris Hedges, the former Middle East Bureau Chief for The New York Times, traveled to Cairo where they interviewed 29 Palestinian families who had recently left Gaza.

In Requiem for Gaza, they use the experience and stories of these families to detail the crucible of the genocide, the loss of homes and communities, the appalling death toll among friends and loved ones, the constant displacement, the terror of indiscriminate killing, the hunger and deprivation, the obliteration of all that was known and familiar, and the struggle to cope with the callous indifference of a world that continues to supply Israel with weapons despite its wholesale destruction of Gaza and mass slaughter. Hedges’ vivid prose and Sacco’s visceral images complement each other and together paint a portrait of dignity and suffering under genocide.

They are going on tour to discuss this profound and elegiac work of investigative journalism—here are their stops in October:

The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang is a solid horror graphic novel for kids

Twelve-year-old Eugenia Wang has never celebrated her birthday on her actual birthday, April 4th, because of her mom’s belief in the Chinese superstition that four is an unlucky number. And that’s not the only thing Mom’s strict about; she won’t let Eugenia go to a summer comic art camp because she thinks art is a waste of time. This year, Eugenia is determined to defy her mom by applying for the camp, having her party on her actual birthday, and inviting her super cute crush while she’s at it, too!

But when Eugenia gets hit in the head with a sneaker during PE, she starts getting unnerving visions of impending doom about her upcoming birthday. It might be the aftereffects of her head injury, or maybe she’s just anxious about turning thirteen. As the visions get worse, even affecting her artwork, Eugenia suspects an unseen force may be sending her messages. If she’s haunted after all, Eugenia will have to figure out why before it’s too late. Even more horrifying, she may have to do the unthinkable: admit her mom was right.

Small Magics is an adorable graphic novel perfect for younger readers

A young girl uncovers the small magics of her aunts’ island home, where dogs talk and the wind blows your way if you say “please,” in this stunning middle grade graphic novel from the Geisel Honor creator of Tiger vs. Nightmare. Perfect for fans of The Moth Keeper.

It’s the last summer before Sara’s family moves and she has to start over at a new school. The last summer before everything changes. But instead of spending it with the friends she’ll be leaving behind, Sara is sent to stay with her aunts on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere, miles and miles away from any other kids.

At least it’s a magical island.

The moment Sara steps foot on its shores, she begins to discover the small magics that make life there an endlessly surprising adventure. From talking animals to trees with minds of their own, this island is full of impossible, incredible things. And with her aunts’ two dogs as her eager (and very chatty) guides, Sara is ready to discover them all.

Celebrate the sweetness of summer, the joy of new friendships, and the hidden wonders of the world with Small Magics.

The Conquest of the Cosmos is a humorous take on the space race

A wild ride into the depths of outer space and the heights of hubris!

October 4, 1957: The launch of Sputnik—a piece of orbital space junk that goes “beep beep”—kicks off a battle for celestial supremacy between the USSR and the USA, rival superpowers armed with massive rockets, galaxy-sized egos, and zero chill. Over the course of a decade, scientists, politicians, and regular folks on both sides of the Iron Curtain grapple with the big questions: How do you convince a dog to volunteer for a one-way trip into orbit? Wouldn’t it be easier to just fake the whole “moon landing” thing in a movie studio? And how are we supposed to sell commemorative T-shirts and coffee mugs if we don’t get a sweet logo designed ASAP?

Writer Alexandre Fontaine Rousseau (Vampire Cousins) and artist Francis Desharnais (Art Wars) blast off on a ridiculous, irreverent, and utterly un-factual journey through the twists and turns of the Space Race. Across a series of hilarious episodes, the duo takes aim at the excesses of capitalism, the dark side of communism, and the questionable wisdom of launching billions of dollars into the void. The Conquest of the Cosmos is a withering satire of politics, ideology, and human ambition that couldn’t be more relevant to our current moment.
