Eco Comics plants environmentally-friendly comic evolution with Graphicly

Official Press Release

ECO COMICS TEAM UPS WITH GRAPHICLY

Eco Comics plants an environmentally-friendly comic book evolution

Publisher Mohawk Media has today announced that its Eco Comics range – paperless comic books and graphic novels designed with the specific purpose of having a minimal carbon footprint – is now available via digital comic book platform Graphicly, creating what it anticipates will be an evolutionary explosion for the comic book.

Graphicly will carry Eco Comics titles Heroic High, Supplanter, Pirate Queen, and more, via www.mohawkmedia.co.uk/ecocomics

Graphicly’s digital comic platform includes applications to allow the purchasing and reading of digital comic books for PC and Mac desktops, and mobile phone and tablet platforms on Android, iPhone and iPad.

Eco Comics titles are available worldwide to download or view online.

Editor Stuart Buckley says: “Paper production, even via sustainable forestry, can have a disastrous effect on the environment and wildlife. Combining Eco Comics’ outlook with the digital direction of the Graphicly platform is more than a turning point in comic books and graphic novels, it’s an evolutionary explosion.”

“As you flow through the story, the panels jump out. It takes comics to a whole new level. Readers get that extra satisfaction by realising that comics can be environmentally-friendly and, as a direct result, perhaps being even more enjoyable, interactive, and accessible.”

“Readers can also discuss and review each issue, resulting in Eco Comics not only being environmentally-friendly, but fan-friendly.”

“Mohawk Media and Eco Comics will continue to use the latest technologies to help minimise the impact of print comic production on the environment, while simultaneously striving to bring the highest quality entertainment to the reader.”

Eco Comics titles are available now on Graphicly, including a free preview comic. More titles are set to be announced.

Free ‘Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard’ Preview Exclusively on Graphic.ly

Official Press Release

FREE ‘MOUSE GUARD: LEGENDS OF THE GUARD’ PREVIEW EXCLUSIVELY ON GRAPHIC.LY

READ AN EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT WHILE A NEW PRINTING IS ON ITS WAY

Los Angeles, CA (December 6, 2010) – Because many readers may have missed out on the first printing of MOUSE GUARD: LEGENDS OF THE GUARD VOL. 1 hardcover, Archaia and its exclusive digital partner, Graphic.ly, have made the first story in the anthology collection available for free digital download on the Graphic.ly platform while a new printing is on its way. The download also includes the two opening pages written and drawn by series creator David Petersen that introduces the through-line of the story. The offer follows in the footsteps of the digital release of a 23-page preview of another recent Archaia sellout, RETURN OF THE DAPPER MEN, which was the highest downloaded comic in a single day on Graphic.ly.

MOUSE GUARD: LEGENDS OF THE GUARD VOL. 1 is an anthology collection of short stories created by artists and writers handpicked by Petersen to come and “play” in the Mouse Guard universe. The critically acclaimed graphic novel sold out of its first printing of 15,000 copies at the distributor level within 48 hours, so Archaia wanted to provide those that missed out with a glimpse of the book while they waited for new copies to arrive.

LEGENDS OF THE GUARD is, at its core, about sharing stories, not only in the fictional Mouse Guard world, but also in the real world where a great number of talented people I respect and admire came forward to give my audience some new tales,” said Petersen. “Offering the first LEGENDS story for people to try on Graphic.ly for free is in that same spirit of sharing stories.”

To access the free LEGENDS OF THE GUARD story, which was written and drawn by CURSED PIRATE GIRL creator Jeremy Bastian, readers should download the desktop app at http://graphic.ly/ and create a free account. Apple iPhone and iPad users should download the free Graphic.ly app from the App Store. Click on the Archaia Comics tab in the menu, select Mouse Guard Legends and the preview is available for free download!

MOUSE GUARD: LEGENDS OF THE GUARD VOL. 1 (hardcover, full color, 144 pages, 8” x 8”, $19.95) is set inside the June Alley Inn, located in the western mouse city of Barkstone. Mice have gathered to tell tales, each trying to outdo the other. A competition, of sorts, begins. The rules: Every story must contain one truth, one lie, and have never been told in that tavern before. Petersen writes and draws the scenes in the inn while the contributors he selected write and draw the tales. The contributors include Jeremy Bastian, Katie Cook, Guy Davis, Lowell Francis, Gene Ha, Alex Kain, Karl Kerschl, João Lemos, Terry Moore, Ted Naifeh, Craig Rousseau, Sean Rubin, Alex Sheikman and Mark Smylie.

MOUSE GUARD is the fan-favorite, Eisner Award-winning property created by David Petersen that chronicles the adventures of an elite group of mice that have been tasked with protecting common mice from predators, the elements and other dangers. It is, essentially, mice with swords! Two series, MOUSE GUARD VOL. 1: FALL 1152 and MOUSE GUARD VOL. 2: WINTER 1152, have been collected into hardcovers thus far. The first issue of the follow-up series, MOUSE GUARD VOL. 3: THE BLACK AXE, launches in December. Petersen and Archaia have also already announced a LEGENDS OF THE GUARD VOL. 2 collection is planned, with creators like Eric Canete, Janet Lee, Jim McCann, Kenneth Rocafort, Stan Sakai and Bill Willingham on board to contribute.

Archaia Goes Exclusive With Graphic.ly

Bookmark and Share

Graphic.ly is one of the many digital comic apps on the market and recently they announced that Archaia would be featured exclusively on their system.

They’re currently working to get all of Archaia’s books onto their system and available soon.  Here’s a listing of what’s available now:

The Killer #1-4
Days Missing #1-4
Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 #1-6
Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #1-6

From the email sent out:

One of the potentials of digital comics is the promise of more than just a digital version of the print. We are excited to be the first to bring Bonus Materials to our digital books. When we brought iFanboy onto the team, this is just the type of stuff we had envisioned providing the community. We started with two books: Irredeemable and Milo Ventimiglia Presents Berserker. Josh Flanagan of iFanboy hosts an audio commentary with Mark Waid and Peter Krause all about Irredeemable and the genesis of the story. Ron Richards of iFanboy does the same in Berserker with Milo Ventimiglia, Rick Loverd and Russ Cundiff. In addition, there are panels in Irredeemable that you can rub away the color and the original script Mark wrote. (There are a couple of interesting “story extenders” for Berserker that arent there…yet..but depending on when you read this, might very well be there. Dont want to spoil the surprise, but Rick did some awesome stuff.)

We have about a dozen other books that have Bonus Materials in the works. We hope that one day, all digital books found on Graphic.ly have some Bonus Materials attached. (And that the Bonus Materials themselves get cooler and cooler – like Video, Games, and other things we haven’t even thought of yet!)

Graphic.ly has also recently launched a version of their program for the iPad.

Graphic.ly First to Bring Comics to Every Digital Platform

Official Press Release

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Graphic.ly, the new digital media platform for comic books and communities of fans, today announced at Comic-Con that it now offers the first comic app available on smartphones, tablets, PCs and desktop, another signal event in the transformation of comics to a digital medium that is more accessible by a wider audience and promises to bring new talent and content to the medium as well.

Graphic.ly is also offering exclusive bonus content in its store from notable creators including Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia and BOOM! Studios’ Mark Waid. By providing additional content, Graphic.ly has extended the digital comic experience similarly to how DVD Extras extend movie watching.

In addition, Graphic.ly’s exclusive relationship with Archaia will bring all of Archaia’s titles, such as Mouse Guard and Fraggle Rock, to its digital platform. Graphic.ly is also partnering with fashion and beauty site Modelinia to offer a title featuring supermodels transformed into superheroes.

Graphic.ly will soon release the most advanced app available on the iPad, offering comic fans the ability to view content in full screen and leverage iPad zoom features. The company will also demonstrate its app and store on Windows Phone 7 devices, which will be available to consumers later this year.

The Graphic.ly app is now available for iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac and Windows, including Windows 7, laptops, desktops and portables, and soon on the iPad. The company plans to extend the footprint of compatible devices and operating systems throughout the rest of the year.

It wasn’t that long ago that Graphic.ly was in the news raising money for their new venture.  Now they’re the one doing their own investing.

News has come that Graphic.ly has purchased comic podcast site iFanboy.  Graphic.ly will be integrating iFanboy into their digital comic reader and giving them an instant community which is often the most difficult part of creating something online.

iFanboy has stated that they will still have editorial control over their podcasts and will cover competing services.

Graphic.ly is the new digital comic service that we covered earlier this week and raised $1.2 million in funding.  The service already received some attention during Steve Balmer’s CES keynote for Microsoft.

Mashable has more on the service that will allow access through multiple platforms and interaction with fans and creators.  They also have shown some screen shots which gives us hints as to what to expect and what comics we can expect to see.

Two weeks after a private beta closes, Graphic.ly will launch its beta with Windows 7.  A service like this will give print media a new distribution platform and a way for their use community to interact, a vital need in this day and age.
