Gen Con 2025 Arrives This Week for Attendance-Record-Breaking, Sold-Out Convention

Gen Con

Gen Con, the largest and longest-running tabletop gaming convention in North America, returns to Indianapolis on July 31 – August 3 for a sold-out convention with record-breaking attendance numbers.

The annual event, held in Indianapolis since 2003, attracts tens of thousands of gamers and fans from around the world to the Indiana Convention Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, and downtown hotels. For four days, attendees enjoy gaming, shopping, cosplaying, and savoring the best local food, beverages, and Hoosier hospitality.

Attendance isn’t the only record Gen Con is breaking in 2025. This year, attendees can shop and browse an Exhibit Hall featuring an astounding 595 vendors, selling new and popular games, merchandise, costumes, art, books, and more. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in nearly 30,000 unique ticketed events, including gaming sessions and tournaments, comedy, film, entertainment, writing and crafting workshops, and the fan-favorite Costume Contest and Parade.

Participants can also enjoy local food and drinks from an expanded Block Party celebration on South Street during the four-day convention. This outdoor, open-to-the-public festival features dozens of local food trucks set up alongside Gen Con’s local food and beverage partners Sun King Brewery, HotBox Pizza, Daniels’ Vineyard, Helm Coffee, Social Cantina, and Harry & Izzy’s.

The Gen Con Makers Market returns for its third year, featuring over 20 local Indy artisans, crafters, creators, and vendors in a vibrant bazaar shopping experience.

For Gen Con’s annual charity program, the convention has partnered with two nonprofit organizations that will split the proceeds of fundraising programs held during the convention: the Brown Toy Box Foundation, which works to expose Black elementary students to STEAM careers through play-based learning, and Women4Change Indiana, a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis dedicated to increasing positive outcomes for women and girls in health and wellness, economic mobility, and personal safety and security.

Gen Con 2025: Arcane Wonders and Arclight Games Announce the Upcoming Launch of Cozy and Cooperative Dexterity Game Cat and the Tower

Cat and the Tower

Arcane Wonders has partnered with Arclight Games to announce the upcoming launch of the cooperative dexterity game Cat and the Tower during Gen Con in August 2025. Players will work together to help Toto the Cat climb his way up a perilous tower to reach the stars, where he believes his mother is waiting for him.

Each turn, players will choose options from the cards available to either build the tower ever-higher or test how steady they can keep their hand by performing dexterity challenges that will help Toto climb to his destination. The game may start seemingly easy, but players will soon find it unsurprising to see the tower fall apart once they start building from the 5th floor and beyond. If Toto reaches the 10th floor, he clears the first stage, and players get to see more of his heartwarming story as he journeys to reunite with his mother.

Toto’s feline friends will also come along for the adventure, and their presence can both help and hinder his mission. Adjusting their location will rebalance the tower, but they may also end up in inconvenient spots that get in the way of placing walls to build new floors. When Toto sees his friends making it to the floor above him, it gives him the bravery to climb higher and higher himself.

Cat and the Tower has cute cats, engaging gameplay, and a storyline that will tear at players’ heartstrings and leave them giving it their all to help Toto reach the top.

Gen Con 2025: Arcane Wonders Announces Onstage, a Gorgeous Vietnamese Trick-Taking Game

Arcane Wonders has announced an exciting partnership with Rolling Wizards to introduce Onstage during Gen Con in August 2025. Onstage is a must-follow trick-taking style game where each player acts as a theater company, competing for the best performers to add to their troupe.

This colorful, enthralling, and tricky game combines traditional Vietnamese art with engaging gameplay, including a unique twist: the trump suit can (and often will!) change mid-round, keeping players on their toes. Optimally designed for three to five players, each game takes roughly 15-30 minutes, and it is best suited for ages 8 and up.

Onstage joins the prestigious Dice Tower Essentials line, curated by renowned board game reviewer Tom Vasel, who hand-selects games he believes belong in every gamer’s collection. This endorsement speaks volumes about the quality and enjoyment that Onstage offers to players of all ages and at different experience levels.
