Fantastic Four Gets Clobbered

Fantastic Four movie posterThe negative reviews, and negative buzz surrounding the latest reboot for Fox‘s Fantastic Four likely did in the film. The move was estimated to take first and earn around $40 million for the weekend, but the film actually came in second and was estimated to have earned a poor $26.2 million. Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation held on to first place adding an estimated $29.4 million to its haul.

Fantastic Four is probably done for the summer after its first weekend with a piss poor C- Cinemascore. To compare, Pixels earned a B. Pretty much, unless the film blows up huge overseas, the film will be a loss for Fox.

In other superhero movie news, Ant-Man added an estimated $7.83 million to its total. The film has now earned $326.3 million worldwide in its four weeks. Unadjusted for inflation the film is the second worse film in the Marvel Cinematic universe as far as earnings. It beats just The Incredible Hulk. It may move up a post before it finishes though….

So far this year, domestically (and internationally) Jurassic World is on top so far. The film is the domestic box office champ for the year so far earning $635,627,000 so far. Avengers: Age of Ultron is in second place with $456,942,727, Furious 7 has earned $351,032,910 and is in third, and Inside Out has earned $335,375,000 and is in fourth.

Worldwide, Jurassic World has earned $1.5812 billion to be in first, Furious 7 is in second with $1.5117 billion, Avengers: Age of Ultron has earned $1.3984 billion for third, and Minions is fourth with $912.6 million.

Ant-Man Holds of Pixels to Stay on Top

ant-man movie posterIn the early reports for the weekend box-office, Ant-Man has barely held off Pixels to remain in the top spot for the weekend. The film earned an estimated $24.765 million, and Pixels earned an estimated $24 million.

Ant-Man benefited from Pixels poor reviews top hold out, and crossed the $100 million mark. It has earned around $106 million, which it earned in 10 days. So far globally Ant-Man has earned $225.5 million and still has numerous territories to open up in.

In other geeky movie news. Minions held on to third place earning $22.1 million to bring its global total to $759.4 million. Jurassic World added $6.9 million domestically to bring its total to $1.542 billion. Terminator: Genisys added $2.4 million and stands at $305.1 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron continues to earn adding $347,000 to its domestic total. It now stands at $1.396 billion.

Domestically, Jurassic World stands as the top domestic earner with $623.8 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron is second with $456.6 million, and Furious 7 is third with $351 million.

Worldwide, Jurassic World has earned $1.542 billion to be in first, Furious 7 is second with $1.512 billion, and Avengers: Age of Ultron is third with $1.396 billion.

Ant-Man Falls Short, Trainwreck Overperforms

ant-man movie posterAnt-Man fell just short of its projection. The film brought in an estimated $58 million this past weekend. Projections had it opening between $60-$65 million.

Ant-Man had the second worst opening for a Marvel film. The worst was The Incredible Hulk which opened with $55.4 million. It also had the lowest average per screen earning, just $15,051 on average. The film has also earned $56.4 million at the foreign box-office bringing its total to $114.44 million so far.

The film does have an “A” CinemaScore, so maybe there’s hope for the film in the long run, but its debut shows a weak spot in Marvel’s impressive armor. It also makes you wonder if it’ll affect the plans for other debut characters coming up such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel.

Trainwreck, the other major debut this weekend, opened with $30.2 million placing it in third. It’s director Judd Apatow’s second best opening weekend ever. The opening is considered a strong one for the R rated film.

Minions held on to second place earning $50.2 million.

Avengers: Age of Ultron continues to earn bringing in $479,000.

When it comes to totals for the year, Jurrasic World dominates at the domestic box office earning $611.2 million so far, with Age of Ultron in second and $456 million and Furious 7 in third with $351 million.

Worldwide, Jurassic World is now in first with $1.5135 billion so far. That knocks Furious 7 to second with $1.5117 billion and Age of Ultron sits in third with $1.3935 billion.

Jurassic World Still Rains Cash, While Inside Out Debuts Strong

jurassic_worldJurassic World retained the top spot at the domestic earning an estimated $102 million. That’s only a 51% decline from its first weekend, which is much less than expected. That’s the second best second weekend earnings ever. The film has earned $398.2 million at the domestic box office. Internationally the film has brought in $583.1 million bringing its total worldwide to $981.3 million. World will cross the billion mark soon, making it the quickest a movie has gotten to that mark. The current record holder Furious 7 took 17 days and World will do it in 11 or 12. The film still hasn’t opened in Japan.

insideout1Not to be outdone though, Inside Out debuted with an impressive $91.1 million. That’s actually the best debut ever for an original property. The film earned $41 million internationally giving it a total of $132 million for its first weekend. It’s only opened in 42% of the global markets. The film’s domestic opening is the second best ever opening weekend for a Pixar film.

In more comic related film earnings, Avengers: Age of Ultron continued to bring in the dollars adding an estimated $2.7 million at the domestic box office. The film has earned $1.37 billion so far.

When it comes to the 2015 top grosses, Age of Ultron still is on top as far as domestic earnings. Jurassic World will likely pass it. Worldwide, Furious 7 is still on top with Age of Ultron in second and Jurassic World has quite a bit to go, but is currently in third.

Jurassic World Dominates the World (Updated)

jurassic_worldIt’s not a shock that Jurassic World won the weekend box-office, but by how much, and how much it earned worldwide is. Domestically, the film earned an estimated $204.6 million. That’s just shy of the record set by Marvel’s The Avengers which earned $207.4 million. Worldwide, the film earned $511.8 million, that means the foreign box-office estimated earning was $307.2 million. The film earned double the estimates put out by its distributor Universal.

The film did break some records. It earned an average $47.8K per theater, which is the best top weekend average. It had the highest global debut in history. It is the first film to ever earn over $500 million in one weekend. The film also has the best single day Saturday Gross, the highest opening weekend for June, the fastest to $100 million and $150 million. The film was split 52% male and 48% female, with 39% under the age 25 with 61% 25 and over. 50% of the international box-office came from 3D. How this plays out for the rest of the summer will be interesting.

In other earning news, Mad Max: Fury Road came in seventh adding $4.13 million domestically to bring its worldwide earnings to $322.7 million. Avengers: Age of Ultron added $3.6 million to bring its worldwide earnings to $1.354 billion. Age of Ultron opens in Japan on July 4th, so there’s still some foreign box-office earnings to go for the film. Domestically, Avengers: Age of Ultron sits at top of the grosses for the year so far earning $444.7 million with Furious 7 in second at $350.8 million and Jurassic World in third with $204.6 million. Worldwide things are a bit different. Furious 7 sits at the top of the grosses with $1.51 billion, Age of Ultron is second with $1.35 billion. Jurassic World currently sits in fifth, but it’ll likely be in third by week’s end the latest.

Update: The earning estimates have been revised, and it is now being reported that Jurassic World earned $208.8 million its opening weekend. That makes it the top debut ever both domestically and worldwide. Its average per theater was actually $48,855 and its worldwide earning is $524.1 million having earned $315.3 million in foreign markets. That foreign market earning is also a record besting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 which earned $314 million.

Spy Wins the Box Office, San Andreas Crashes

spy-poster-2015-hd-wallpaperSpy won the weekend box-office, earning an estimated $30 million. That knocked down last weekend’s winner San Andreas to second place earning an estimated $26.4 million.

Other films opening this week Insidious Chapter 3, and Entourage opened in third and fourth respectively. Insidious Chapter 3 earned $23 million. Entourage earned $10.4 million. Entourage did have a good worth of mouth, so maybe the film will do well in the long run.

Mad Max: Fury Road dropped to fifth earning $7.97 million and bringing its worldwide total to $307.8 million.

Avengers: Age of Ultron earned $6.2 million bringing its global total to $1.35 billion. It’s still in second so far this year behind Furious 7. Age of Ultron is in fifth all time for earnings and will open in Japan on July 4th. That might put it over Furious 7.

This coming weekend Jurassic World opens, and is guaranteed to be in first.

San Andreas Tops the Box-Office

san andreasDwayne Johnson body-slammed the competition and ruled the box-office the past weekend. San Andreas opened in the top spot earning $53.2 million over the weekend. The film was predicted to earn $40 million, so its total was a pleasant surprise for its studio Warner Bros. It’s the best opening for Johnson as not part of an ensemble film.

The film also opened in 60 markets overseas was in the top spot in 55 of those markets. Overseas it earned an estimated $60 million. This film has brought in over $113.2 million worldwide its first week.

Pitch Perfect 2 was on key for a third week. The film earned an additional $14.4 million this past weekend. Domestically the film has earned $147.5 million and $80.7 million overseas for a total of $228.24 million.

Tomorrowland dropped to third in its second week, adding $13.8 million to its domestic total. Mad Max: Fury Road was just a bit under that adding $13.625 million in its third week. The film has earned $280.9 million worldwide so far.

Avengers: Age of Ultron came in fifth for the week. The film added $10.9 million domestically. Domestically the film has earned $427.1 million and $894.2 million in foreign markets. Its total is $1.321 billion. The film is in the top spot for domestic earnings in 2015, but lags far behind Furious 7‘s $1.5 billion.

In other comic movie news, Kingsman: The Secret Service added $106,000 to its total. The film has earned $403.6 million worldwide.

Tomorrowland Wins the Blah Weekend Box-Office

Tomorrowland_posterTomorrowland was at top of the domestic box-office this past weekend, earning $32.97 million. The weekend was rather drowsy as a whole with two major new movies opening. The film earned an additional $26.7 million internationally.

In second place was last weekend’s box-office champ, Pitch Perfect 2 which earned $30.8 million, and following that in third was Mad Max: Fury Road which earned $24.8 million. Pitch Perfect 2 has earned $179 million worldwide but Mad Max: Fury Road has earned $219.84 million so far.

The other major film to open, Poltergeist earned $22.6 million in its first weekend, about what was expected.

Avengers: Age of Ultron continued to earn and do well, adding $21.7 million domestically. The film has earned $1.18 billion worldwide so far, but Furious 7 continues to be the global leader as far as earnings so far in 2015.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Remains on Top

Avengers_Age_Of_Ultron-poster1In its second week at the domestic box office, Avengers: Age of Ultron earned an additional $77.2 million. That’s a drop of 59.6% from the previous week. That’s the second highest second week ever, just behind the original film. Domestically the film has earned $312.6 million so far, just 35.7% of its total.

Internationally, the film added $65 million to bring its total at the foreign box office to a total of $562.4 million. It has yet to open in Japan or China, so expect an impressive boost from those two markets.

The film has earned a total of $874.99 million so far and had an estimated budget of $250 million. It’ll likely be two more weeks before the film crosses the billion dollar mark, but it does have tough competition with the opening of Pitch Perfect 2, and Mad Max: Fury Road.

In other movie news Furious 7 continues to earn, adding $5.3 million domestically to its total this past weekend. The film has earned $338.4 million domestically, and worldwide is at $1.47 billion. The film has about $50 million to go to move into the third highest grossing film worldwide ever passing the original Avengers. There’s a chance it pulls it off. The big question too will be if Age of Ultron can catch up to the film and beat it to the finish line as top grossing film of the year.

In other comic movie news, Kingsman: The Secret Service continues to earn in its 13th week. The film added $235,000 domestically to bring its total to $127.2 million and worldwide total to $402.75 million.

Age of Ultron Falls Short of the Record

Avengers_Age_Of_Ultron-poster1When some folks were predicting a $200 million opening, is anything less a failure? Marvel‘s Avengers: Age of Ultron ruled the box office, naturally, and opened with an impressive $187.7 million. That’s the second-best debut ever. Marvel’s first Avengers holds the record at $207.4 million.

The film did have one record. It accounted for 85 percent of the top 12 box office. That beats the Spider-Man 3‘s 83 percent.

While the film earned more than the first Avengers film on Friday, it performed worse on Saturday, 18 percent lower. It earned $57.2 million which was below the first film as well as Iron Man 3 which earned $62.3 million.

There’s many factors as to why the film fell short including sporting events like the NBA playoffs, The Kentucky Derby, and even the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight.

The film was 59 percent male and 59 percent over the age of 25. It also received an “A” Cinemascore.

Internationally, the film added $168 million to bring its total to $439 million. It opened with the biggest debut ever in Mexico and the second highest in Thailand. It opens in China May 12th.

The film has now earned $626.7 million in the two weeks its been open worldwide and it had an estimated budget of $250 million.

In other movie news, Furious 7 dropped to third place after ruling the box-office. It earned another $6.2 million to bring its domestic total to $330.5 million. Globally the film has earned $1.43 billion. The film is in fourth for all-time worldwide grosses. There’s a chance it knocks off the first Avengers to move into third.
