The Walking Dead #115 Midnight Release Parties Celebrate the 10th Anniversary

All Out War breaks out on October 9, 2013 with the release of The Walking Dead #115, part of the celebration of 10 years of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s epic comic book series. Image Comics will be kicking off the celebration the night before, alongside retailers across the United States & Canada, with The Walking Dead Midnight Release Parties!

For this special event, The Walking Dead will be available for purchase in advance, at midnight on the night before release, October 9, 2013. The Walking Dead #115 is the first issue of the monster event All Out War, which will pit Rick Grimes and his group of Survivors in a fight for their lives against the other factions in The Walking Dead universe: The Saviors, The Hilltop, and The Kingdom.

Comic book retailers will be able to sign up to host a midnight release party for The Walking Dead #115 and in the process get exclusive giveaways and promotional items for the party, as well as the opportunity to order a special variant cover of The Walking Dead #115, with brand new art from Charlie Adlard, available only to participating retailers.

Fans who would like to attend a Walking Dead Midnight Release Party should inquire with their local comic book retailers and ask them to participate. Comic book retailers in the US and Canada interested in hosting a midnight release party should opt-in with Diamond Code JUL138242 by September 6th, 2013. For more information, retailers should contact their Diamond customer service representative, or contact Image Comics directly.

The Walking Dead #115 is available for pre-order now, in advance of its release on October 9th, 2013, and features 10 individual connecting covers.

R.A. Salvatore Hosts a Public Reddit Ask Me Anything

image001Wizards of the Coast is kicking it’s promotion machine into high gear with a newly announced Reddit Ask Me Anything with popular writer R.A. Salvatore. The event will kick-off live at 11AM EST this Thursday, August 22 at http://www.reddit.com/r/AMA/. This is your chance to ask this fan favorite sci-fi/fantasy authore questions!

The Reddit comes on the heels of Salvatore’s recently released, The Companions, The Sundering, Book I, the first release in a six novel collaboration with the most celebrated Forgotten Realms authors of all time. The novels are each set against the background of the unfolding events taking place in the Sundering, an epic event currently underway that will reshape the Forgotten Realms. The self-contained novels will feature both new and well-loved characters, including Salvatore’s famous drow ranger, Drizzt Do’Urden, with each showing the changes to the Realms from their heroes’ points of view.

Giants Baseball Presents the Stan Lee Experience

This Wednesday, August 7, the San Francisco Giants take on the Milwaukee Brewers and present the Stan Lee Experience in the Triples Alley Premium Space at AT&T Park! Stan Lee, the genius behind the Marvel empire, will be on-hand at this exclusive VIP pre-game party! All VIP Special Event ticket holders will get to enjoy complimentary food and beverage (including beer and wine), and will receive a limited-edition Giants themed art print, inspired by the legend himself, Stan Lee. Each piece is signed by both Stan Lee and Sergio Romo! Unlike any other ballpark setting, this on-field space is the perfect place to enjoy all of the pre-game excitement at the ballpark. Triples Alley, the Giants newest premium location, has it all, including on-field access from which to watch batting practice, early access to the ballpark, and at the conclusion of the pre-game event, a walk along the warning track on the field to get to your seats for the game.

Please Note: in order to purchase the “Add-On” option and attend the VIP event, you must have a valid game ticket, as well.

The Giants website says this is sold out, but you never know the day of the game or maybe you can find tickets online.

SDCC 2013: The Blank Page Project Brought To You By ComiXology & The Hero Initiative

ComiXology’s Meet Your Makers summer extravaganza continues with “The Blank Page Project” charity event. The Hero Initiative has partnered with comiXology and creators Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner to host this fully catered 2-hour charity event where all fans are invited to watch creators fill “The Blank Page” – a 12 foot by 8 foot gigantic comic page that will auctioned off at a later date with proceeds going towards The Hero Initiative – a charity that helps creators in need.

“The Blank Page Project” charity event is open to all fans and creators. The event will take place on Thursday, July 18th from 5pm to 7pm during San Diego Comic-Con 2013 outside the Vela restaurant, which is located at the back of the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, a quick walk from the San Diego Convention Center.

The Hero Initiative is committed to helping creators in need and has done so for the past thirteen years. This event and auction will undoubtedly help the organization raise more money for the good work The Hero Initiative does.

“The Blank Page Project” and comiXology’s partnership with The Hero Initiative to raise money for comic creators in need is just one part of comiXology’s summer long Meet Your Makers event celebrating comic creators and the creation of comics.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour’ Art Exhibit Opens at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco

thrilling adventure hourThe Cartoon Art Museum, The WorkJuice Corporation, Quixotic Transmedia, and Archaia Entertainment are pleased to present artwork from the much-anticipated The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel at the Cartoon Art Museum from June 29 – October 20, 2013. Featuring artwork from all 10 stories, the Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel explores brand-new material from series creators Ben Acker and Ben Blacker. The characters from the critically acclaimed multi-genre stage show and podcast are brought to life in various styles in the graphic novel and on the walls of the Cartoon Art Museum.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour is a live stage show in the style of old-time radio performed monthly at the Largo of the Coronet Theatre in Los Angeles, California since 2005. Each episode of the show features original stories written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker. These stories are  performed by the WorkJuice Players, a supremely talented and quite friendly troupe of comedians and actors from stage and screen. This cast plays characters from an ever-evolving array of recurring worlds and genres including BUT NOT LIMITED TO space westerns, hobo fairy tales, and screwball romantic ghost stories. In 2011, The Thrilling Adventure Hour started podcasting recordings of their performances under Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Industries umbrella to both success and acclaim.  In 2012, The Thrilling Adventure Hour and Quixotic Transmedia ran a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign that enabled The Thrilling Adventure Hour to expand into other media, including a The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel that will be released nationwide in late August 2013.

The exhibit features digital reproductions from the The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel anthology. The exhibit showcases work from artists Heidi Arnhold, Jordie Bellaire, Randy Bishop, Casey Crowe, Lar deSouza, Joanna Estep, Evan Larson, André May, Chris Moreno, Natalie Nourigat, Joel Priddy, Evan “Doc” Shaner, and Jeff Stokely. The exhibition will also feature exclusive artwork inspired by The Thrilling Adventure Hour  from renowned artists Jackson Publick, Ben Edlund, Dustin Weaver, and cover artwork by Tom Fowler. The exhibit was facilitated by  Joe LeFavi of Quixotic Transmedia, CAM’s Roy Zemlicka and Archaia, the publisher of the The Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel which, again, will be released in late August 2013.

The Thrilling Adventure Hour Reception will be held at the Cartoon Art Museum in August, 2013.

Childhood Heroes Debuts at TR!CKST3R!

childhood heroesTR!CKSTER is one of the best things going on during San Diego Comic-Con. An event within event, it buzzes with creativity and fun, celebrating comics and especially indie and small print. TR!CKSTER has announced Childhood Heroes an anthology collection featuring art and stories inspired by the ones we drew when we were kids. Many of the artists included images of their original childhood art along with new versions of their old friends. TR!CKSTER has described it as a project “over 30 years in the making!”

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Childhood Heroes will be sent to The Children’s Creativity Museum in San Francisco to help youngsters there find their very own Heroes.

This printing is limited to a edition of 500 and will debut at TR!CKST3R: San Diego which is being held at the East Village Tavern Bowl: 930 Market St. starting July 17th.

This is the second book ever published by TR!CKSTER. This (among many) is a great reason to head over to the event and check out this limited edition comic as well as event.

Mezco Unveils Batman Classic TV Series Mez-Itz and Batmobile with Toy Giveaway

mezco_letters300dpiMezco Toys earlier this year announced their partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, to produce toys and vehicles based on the beloved DC Comics 1960’s Batman Classic TV Series.

The Mez-Itz line will feature the likeness of the actors from the series such as Adam West and Burt Ward, famed for their iconic portrayals as the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin. Mezco’s Mez-Itz line will also debut the Batman Classic TV Series toys, including the Batmobile.

Mezco will be revealing these new products to the general public for the first time on Tuesday June 25, from 11am-1pm at the famous Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Odditorium on 42nd Street in New York City.

The first 200 people to come view the display dressed as their favorite Batman Classic TV Series character will each receive a free Mezco DC Universe Mez-Itz, as well as a discount for entry into the Odditorium.

The Mez-Itz will be delivered to Ripley’s Odditorium in a life size Classic TV style Batmobile, similar to the one seen in the Batman Classic TV Series, which will remain parked outside from 11am-1pm. Photos and video are welcome!

Mezco will be producing Mez-Itz not only of Batman and Robin, but also of their famous Rogues Gallery as well: The Penguin, The Joker, Catwoman and The Riddler. Every Super-Villain needs a henchman, so naturally Mezco will also produce The Riddler’s Thug, inspired by the original show.

Mezco’s first wave of Batman Classic TV Series products will hit stores in July 2013, a sneak preview will be available at San Diego Comic Con at Mezco’s booth #3445 as well as online.

Washington, DC Event: Visualizing Peace: Graphic Art & Social Change

2013-06-05_1346This coming Tuesday, June 11, Search for Common Ground will be holding a forum, Visualizing Peace: Graphic Art & Social Change. The event will be held at the Kenney Auditorium at Johns Hopkins University SAIS from 9:30am to 11am. Visually captivating, accessible to a wide audience, and inexpensive to produce and distribute, graphic art holds its own in the age of digital media and social networking.

The event will bring together artists, activists and conflict resolution practitioners to explore the creativity with which graphic art and comic books have been used for social change around the world, and to generate ideas for expanding the potential of bridging the two fields.

Join the event to:

  • Discover a unique peacebuilding resource
  • Preview new comic books and graphic novels related to social change
  • Meet artists and panelists before and after the event
  • Take home samples of new and classic works of graphic art relevant to social change

Panelists include, Andrew Aydin: co-author with Congressman John Lewis of March, a graphic novel trilogy depicting Lewis’ lifelong struggle for civil and human rights in America, Nate Powell: Illustrator of March and creator of the acclaimed graphic novel Any Empire, a vivid examination of war and violence,and their trickle-down effects on Middle America, Dalia Ziada (via Skype): Activist, blogger, and award-winning women’s rights advocate; translator of The Montgomery Story, the 1956 comic book about Martin Luther King Jr. and nonviolent protest and the moderator is Jeanné Isler, Director of USA Programs, Search for Common Ground

Todd McFarlane to make rare Spokane, Washington Appearance

220px-EasternWashingtonEaglesEastern Washington University is welcoming back to campus Todd McFarlane, the comic creator, artist and toy czar, during its Commencement weekend June 14-15.

McFarlane will be the keynote speaker at one of two graduation ceremonies that weekend, became a comic book sensation in the 1980s due to his work on Marvel Comics Spider-Man franchise.  In 1992, he launched his own comic title, Spawn, which became one of the 1990s’ most popular heroes and which launched a highly successful and diverse career that includes action figures, film, animation and video games. Spawn became an Emmy Award-winning animated series on HBO and a top grossing live-action feature film from New Line Cinema. McFarlane founded and controls the award-winning McFarlane Toys, a leader in the action figure industry, and produces products based on the some of the hottest entertainment and sports properties.

Open to the public on the night before commencement, Friday, June 14, EWU will present Road Trip to Creative Autonomy, an evening with Todd McFarlane from 7-8 p.m., at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park in Spokane. An autograph session will follow. Admission to this special speaking engagement is $15, and will include a highly limited edition Spawn comic book with a E.W.U. Grad Special cover. The event is free for EWU students with Eagle Card ID. Advanced registration is required and IDs will be scanned at the door. Space is limited, so please RSVP to alumni.ewu.edu/mcfarlane.

McFarlane, who once worked as a janitor while studying and playing baseball at Eastern, will be the keynote speaker during the 2 p.m. Commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 15, for students in the College of Science, Health and Engineering and the College of Arts, Letters and Education.

A pretty cool opportunity for comic fans in the area.
