Comic Book Women Announces Programming for Emerald City Comicon 2016

eccc-stacked-hiComic Book Women has announced “Comic Book Women Present,” a series of five panels taking place at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle from April 7 to 10. The panelists are experts from the ranks of Comic Book Women, an organization of nearly 300 individuals that advocates for greater opportunity, visibility, and recognition for women, as well as trans, genderqueer, and non-binary individuals in the comic book industry.

As part of its proactive efforts to achieve gender equity in programming at comic book conventions, Comic Book Women teamed up with ReedPop and Emerald City Comicon to create panels in which women in comics can share expertise and advice with aspiring and established comic book creators alike.

Writer Mairghread Scott said in the release:

We didn’t feel we needed to do more ‘women in comics’ panels. Instead, this programming centers on specific topics in comics, presented by women with a wealth of experience in the industry.

Kevin Eastman Joins The IDW Team!

IDW PublishingSunday at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon 2015 finished off with a hell of an announcement, that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman has signed an exclusive contract with IDW Publishing, which will see all his new projects created solely with IDW.

Eastman’s long and influential career in comics began with the co-creation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the success of which would lead to a cavalcade of films, television programs, video games, merchandise and more. Taking comics by storm, the originally self-published series thrived through a metamorphosis before landing at IDW, where Eastman has returned to the iconic heroes, plotting and periodically drawing the highly acclaimed series alongside IDW Senior Staff Writer Tom Waltz.

IDW’s working relationship with Eastman started in 2011 with the launch of the all-new IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Eastman has continued to work closely with IDW on projects including classic reprints of the Ninja Turtles, special IDW Limited editions featuring original art alongside essential stories, and cover art for hit original series. A number of new projects will be announced in the coming months as part of this agreement.

Eastman will join the staff of IDW in their newly announced move to San Diego’s historic Liberty Station NTC offices with an office on-site, and his original works will mark the inaugural exhibition of the San Diego Comic Art Gallery.
