FCBD 2016: Dice Masters Free Comic Book Day 2016 Batman: Terror of Crime Alley

Free Comic Book Day is a yearly event taking place the first Saturday of May and a fantastic celebration of comics (and general geekdom). Each year millions of free comics are given away and often other companies get in on the fun with comic related giveaways/promotions. Wizkids have been taking part for years now, and this year is participating with a promotion for their popular Dice Masters game which features comic characters and properties from DC Comics and Marvel (as well as Yu-Gi-Oh and Dungeons & Dragons).

This year’s promotion features a Batman card which is attached to some starters (and stores will determine how they want to sell/give away those starters). The card, Batman: Terror of Crime Alley, features an image from the classic Batman TV Series (of which Heroclix, also by Wizkids, will be getting a convention promo also based on the tv series). There is also a blank variant, which is perfect to have your favorite comic artist sketch their take on the classic character.

The card is a variant for the Batman: Terror of Crime Alley card featured in the DC Dice Masters: World’s Finest set which came out in mid March.

Marvel Dice Masters: Deadpool in October

DeadpoolWe’ve gotten word that a new set for Dice Masters has been announced through store solicits. Marvel Dice Masters: Deadpool will be released in October by Wizkids.

Unlike the recently announced Doctor Strange Team Pack, this looks to be a full set. So expect a starter, gravity feed, playmat, team box, and collector’s box. All of which are standard releases for a set.

The solicit reads:

Dice Masters is a global hit from WizKids. It uses the same proprietary Dice Building Game platform designed by Mike Elliott and Eric M. Lang. Marvel Dice Masters: Deadpool will leave you rolling!

The merc with a mouth brings everything you love about him to Marvel Dice Masters: Deadpool. It goes without saying that you’ll love seeing Deadpool, Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, and Evil Deadpool. Come to learn the ins and outs of the Weapon X project alongside Wolverine, X-23, the Stepford Cuckoos, and Mr. Sinister. The release also sounds like a nice mix of old and new when it comes to cards and team affiliations. The set will include new Spider-Man characters after a set dedicated to just that world of comics a few months ago, as well as an “X” focus since it is Deadpool after all. The inclusion of popular characters such as Lady Deadpool, Dogpool mimics some previous releases for Wizkids’ other game Heroclix which saw a team dedicated just to Deadpool and his compatriots.

The inclusion of Inhumans makes sense and I’d expect to see a set down the road just focused on Marvel’s space based characters. While galactic characters such as Thanos, Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon have been included in past sets, a set focused on them and alien races could potentially add a lot to the game in both variety and mechanics.

Marvel sets so far have included Avengers vs. X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Age of Ultron, The Amazing Spider-Man, and next month will see the release of Civil War. It has also been announced that Civil War‘s super rares will be based on Marvel’s What If? line of comics, and Marvel Dice Masters: Deadpool continues that theme of super rares, much like how DC sets are focused currently on Black Lanterns.

Wizkids’ Dice Masters Gets a Doctor Strange Team Pack

Doctor_Strange_1_CoverWizkids‘ Marvel Dice Masters has a newly announced expansion focusing on Doctor Strange, the Doctor Strange Team Pack. The expansion is set to be released just in time for the movie based on the character.

A team pack is kind of like a starter set and geared towards both new and old players. Just like the name denotes, the team pack provides everything you need to field a team and includes 24 cards and 16 dice. Combine it with a Starter Set and you’re good to go.

The new expansion will feature Doctor Strange, along with character cards/dice featuring such supporting characters such as Clea, Wong, and Dormammu.

The Doctor Strange Team Pack will be released this September and retail for $9.99 while the Doctor Strange movie is out this November.

Wizkids’ DC Comics Dice Masters: Crisis on Infinite Earths Organized Play Starts in April

Anti-Monitor is attempting to destroy the universe, including all five Earths, in DC Comics Dice Masters: Crisis on Infinite Earths. Cross between worlds with the The Flash, Supergirl and Superman in an attempt to save the universe. Will any of the DC Comics superheroes survive the DC Comics Dice Masters: Crisis on Infinite Earths Organized Play events?

This April, Wizkids releases their latest organized play pack for Dice Masters, this one with a focus on DC Comics. Organized play allows stores to purchase kits with prizes that they hand out to participants at local events at their store. Usually stores give one card out to everyone who participates and then the other cards for those who place higher up in the events.

Each kit comes with five The Flash: Crisis on Infinite Earths cards, five Supergirl: Crisis on Infinite Earths cards, and 20 Superman: Invulnerable cards.

Marvel Shows off Ultra Rares for Marvel Dice Masters: Civil War

Marvel Dice Masters: Civil War, the latest Dice Masters set, releases on May 4 and Marvel has shown off some of the Ultra Rare dice and cards that’ll come with the set.

Inspired by the What If? comic series, Marvel Dice Masters is pleased to announce the all-new Civil War set! DC Dice Masters World’s Finest Expansion List

This March sees the release of Wizkids‘ newest DC Dice Masters set, World’s Finest. The set is focused on Batman and Superman and if the Starter Set is any indication expect to see lots of team abilities feared around the two families.

I took the checklist provided with the Starter Set, listed out the characters and their titles for each rarity. We don’t know what each card will do, but you might be able to make some guesses based on the names.

And if you missed it, I unboxed the Starter Set, five boosters, and show off the new playmat.
