Criminal Celebrates 10 Years

The Eisner Award-winning team of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips will release a brand-new 64-page one-shot of their acclaimed noir series Criminal in April.

It’s been ten years since Criminal launched and to celebrate, Brubaker and Phillips, with acclaimed color artist Elizabeth Breitweiser, are bringing their darkest and strangest tale yet: a twisted ‘70s noir about a father and son on the run.

Known for its creative experimentation, this novella-length Criminal story features a comic-within-the-comic, a bizarre ‘70s-era Kung Fu magazine starring a werewolf.

This 10th Anniversary Special also comes in a magazine-sized variant featuring the star of the comic-within-the-comic—a perfect companion to last year’s Savage Sword of Criminal magazine-sized variant.

Criminal: 10th Anniversary Special (Diamond code: NOV158430) hits stores Wednesday, April 13th. Criminal: 10th Anniversary Special, Deadly Edition: Magazine-Size Variant (Diamond code: NOV158431) will also be available on Wednesday, April 13th.

CRIMINAL COMES TO IMAGE! To celebrate the return of CRIMINAL to print, BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS return to their awardwinning title for the first time in years for a 48-page special sure to thrill their readers, old and new alike! It’s 1976, and Teeg Lawless is doing 30 days in county jail with a price on his head, his only safe company from the savagery a beat-up old comic magazine his dead cellmate left behind. It’s CRIMINAL like you’ve never seen it before, with a comic within the comic and all those slick ‘70s thrills!

Brubaker and Phillips’ Criminal Heads to Image in January

In January, writer Ed Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips signed a five year deal with Image Comics to not just release new comics, like their recent hit The Fade Out, but they’d also be bringing some of their back catalog along with them.

In the second issue of The Fade Out, which was released this week, Brubaker announced their plans for their multi-volume noir series Criminal.

Here’s what he had to say:

Criminal had previously been released by Marvel’s creator-owned imprint Icon, with a run from 2007 to 2011.

Yay, looks like we’ll be getting even more Criminal news soon! Hopefully it’ll be a new volume or two.
