More Right Wingers Take Up the Anti-Batman Battle

Bookmark and Share

Batman and Robin on MuslimsWatch the pile on continue as the right wing rages on with their march against Islam by using Batman as a rallying cry.  We said more would be coming and are still waiting for the “big two” to chime in.

Bosch Fawstin over at NewsRealBlog goes on a rant against the latest Batman storyline that sees an Algerian Muslim immigrant become the Batman franchisee in France.  He’s been on a tear lately claiming DC Comics has become “IslamiComics.”  He even has two earlier parts pointing the finger at Superman and Wonder Woman as part of the conspiracy.

Fawstin rants for a few paragraphs against Islam but really doesn’t make much of a case in his arguments.  Such grand inflammatory statements such as:

At this rate, Superman converting to Islam is inevitable.

There’s not much meat here, just screed and pure hate of Islam.  Instead, Fawstin uses it to pitch and hock his anti-Islam comics book The Infidel which stars an “ex-Muslim superhero who is the jihadist’s worst nightmare.”

The NewsRealBlog is part of David Horowitz’s online network in “defense of of free societies.”  Horowitz’s Freedom Center is set up to fight the “left’s takeover of education.”

We just took a step or two back from the brink. Americans, exercising the common sense that has always been at the heart of our national character, took action in the voting booth on November 2 to repudiate Barack Obama’s efforts over the past two years to radically transform our financial and social institutions. The message they delivered was loud and can be summarized in one unequivocal word : NO! They won us some breathing room while we figure out how to finish the job in 2012.

The Freedom Center is proud to have played a role in this effort to lift the socialist fog that has descended over our national life. For the last year and half, as Obama showed soon after taking office that he had no intention of governing as the moderate he had painted himself during the campaign, we have been warning Americans about what this administration really was and what it wanted to do to our country. To show the true nature of the Radical-in-Chief, we published David Horowitz’s pamphlet, “Barack Obama’s Rules for Revolution: the Alinsky Model.” This critically important work shows how our thet President is fulfilling the blueprint for social revolution produced by Saul Alinsky, godfather of the 1960s New Left, and like Obama a “community organizer” from Chicago. With over 800,000 copies distributed in the last few months, this pamphlet has created a national dialogue on the true intentions of this administration. Just recently we published a sequel, “ Breaking the System: Obama’s Strategy for Change,” which shows how the White House uses “manufactured crisis” (as if those it already caused weren’t bad enough!) as a cover to advance its radical social agenda.

The Freedom Center’s other major initiatives involve our universities– bringing traditional values and intellectual standards back to our universities by taking indoctrination by tenured radicals out of the curriculum and promoting academic freedom for students, especially conservative students, who are a stigmatized minority on campus these days. No other organization over the last decade has so frankly identified the enemy our students must deal with: professors who use their classroom as a pulpit for leftist ideology; an unholy alliance between student radical groups and pro jihad organizations that has declared war on America, Israel and the West. No other organization has done more to bring objectivity and true intellectual diversity back to our universities.

This fall, coinciding with the publication of David Horowitz’s Reforming our Universities, we launched another in our series of campaigns to reform the university. Called “Adopt a Dissenting Book,” it showed students how to resist classrooms that functioned as indoctrination chambers by pressuring their teachers, their school’s administrators and boards of trustees to make sure that there is at least one book that presents an alternative point of view on course reading lists which are now mono-chromatically leftist.

So your contribution to the Freedom Center supports the fight against the Left’s takeover of American education and Barack Obama’s takeover of the American future. But it also supports other important programs as well—FrontPage Magazine, the Center’s unique online journal that traces the war against this country’s enemies, at home and abroad; NewsReal Blog, an exciting, innovative team blog challenging the Left throughout the media; DiscoverTheNetworks, the largest database defining the chief groups and individuals of the Left and their organizational interlocks; JihadWatch, which tracks the attempts of radical Islam to subvert Western culture; TerrorismAwareness.org, which helps educate students to the threat posed against America and the West by international terrorism and its apologists in higher education.

Why does this matter?  Come back in an hour to find out.

Angry White Dude which is written “In defense of the most ridiculed and unappreciated being on the planet… THE WHITE MALE,” has this to say on the subject:

Nightrunner? I thought it was written in the Koran that every Muslim’s name has to be Muhammad…including women. Or is that just the savage terrorists? Or is that redundant? Nightrunner the Muslim sidekick will have strange new powers to bury women to their waists and bash their heads in with large rocks. Batman has been needing that skill for a while ever since Catwoman went out to check the mail without wearing her cat burqa. Well, I guess AWD will have to go another 49 years without reading Batman comic books to protest!

The writer even goes on to say “Kill the Batman.”  Um, am I missing something?  You’re calling Muslims savages and murderers, but you incite that Batman should be killed?  I believe that’s called hypocrisy.  In his Saturday musings, this great thinker also throws in homophobic comments about “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” and anti-immigrant comments about the DREAM Act.  A real Renaissance man, this one is.

Conservatives have been on the attack when it comes to Batman and the choice of an Algerian Muslim to be the Batman franchisee in France.  But you can watch how the Conservative/Right Wing machinery works by the flow of the stories.  We covered the first shot at The Astute Bloggers which was the first instance I could find of this attack.

Right wing blogger Warner Todd Huston picked up the rally cry and took the fight to Canada Free Press.  Huston then took the same post and put it up at the conservative site Big Hollywood.  The site is one of Andrew Breitbart’s and his coordinated effort to take down the left.  Weasel Zippers then reposts Huston’s post.

We’ll follow the bouncing ball as it makes it way to it’s next stops The New York Post and eventually prime time at Fox News.

Why Do Conservatives Hate Superman?

Bookmark and Share

On Saturday I dove in for the second time and commented on the conservative outcry over an Algerian Muslim being recruited for the Batman franchise in France.  But this feigned anger from the right got me thinking about all the other immigrant super heroes defending their adopted country.  It made me ask, why do conservatives hate Superman?

You see, Superman is an immigrant.  On top of that, he’s an illegal immigrant from the planet Krypton.  He’s raised the “American way” by a simple family and defends his adoptive country (and world).  Superman might have been raised Methodist, but really he’s Kryptonian and was born into that religion.  Do conservatives hate Superman?  If not, isn’t that hypocrisy or does it show their bigotry towards Muslims?

On top of Superman what other immigrant characters defend their adopted nation?

  • Superman – see above as to why he’s the poster boy for immigration and defending your adoptive country.
  • Wolverine – James Howlett was born a Canadian.  That didn’t stop the man called Logan and Wolverine to work for the C.I.A. or fight side by side with Captain America.  On numerous times he’s defended and saved the United States, his adopted country.
  • Martian Manhunter – Another illegal alien (an actual alien, the guy is from Mars) who laid low and hid in his adoptive world.  On numerous occasions he’s saved the United States and the world.
  • Dust – Sooraya Qadir was born in Afghanistan and legally immigrated to the United States.  As part of the X-Men, she’s saved the world and United States on so many occasions.  Oh yeah, she’s Muslim.  Just taking up a slot meant for a good read blooded American I guess.
  • Blue Agave – He’s an immigrant from Mexico and lives in the US, no idea his religion.
  • Colossus – He’s Russian, he currently lives in the United States, has for a while.  He was a commie, and foreign, guess he’s not qualified to protect us.
  • Banshee – An Irish mutant was living in Tennessee when he was recruited to be a part of the international team of X-Men.
  • Blade – Did you know Blade was British?  Yeah, I didn’t either, Wesley Snipes didn’t do the accent well at all.  He’s the only thing protecting us from being overrun by Vampires.  Guess he can only do that for the UK according to conservatives.
  • Deadpool – Another Canadian (they look just like us!) was recruited to be part of a joint US/Canadian program.  What no Americans good enough!?
  • Doc Voodoo – He’s from Haiti.  He lives in the United States.  He was the Sorcerer Supreme.  He’s saved the world.  No go back to Haiti!
  • Thor – Recently in the news for a whole other protest, in his newest comic series volume we see the Odinson and the rest of the Asgardians set up Asgard in Broxton, Oklahoma.  Not only is he an original Avenger and saved the world and United States numerous times but he’s a god, not exactly an American.  But, more importantly, where’s the outrage for the land grab by a foreign nation?  Would conservatives be so quiet if Doctor Doom did the same?

There’s so many more examples of characters who are immigrants (some are even Muslims!) defending nations of which they were not born.  Where’s the outrage been?

Conservative Warner Todd Huston at It Again. This Time Attacking Batman and Muslims.

Bookmark and Share

Batman and Robin on MuslimsConservative/Right-wing blogger Warner Todd Huston is at it again.  You might remember Huston as one of the right wingers who lead the over blown charge that Captain America was anti-Tea Party.  Huston has taken up the right wing’s latest anti-comic book cause, attacking Batman‘s recruitment of a Muslim to don the cape and tights as part of the franchising of Batman.

Writing for Canada Free Press (was there no Canadian to do this dirty work?) Huston argues this is the latest “PC indoctrination” to hit comic books.  While Huston is correct in the current tensions between Europeans and Muslim immigrants it’s what he equates this plot line to that’s the telling point.  But we’ll get to that later.

Along with this recruitment by Batman, Huston also cites the before mentioned issue with Captain America and also:

It’s PCism run amuck, for sure. But it isn’t surprising for DC, a comic book company that has a character whose creator based it on “corporate greed.” Nor is it surprising in an industry where tea party members are made the enemy of super heroes. For the character based on “corporate greed” look up DC’s Larfleeze character and see the Marvel comic Captain America issue 602 where The Captain makes Tea Partiers into an enemy to America (Marvel later apologized). For that matter, check out the words of the director of the new 2011 Captain America movie who said that his Captain America won’t be a big “flag waver.” Imagine that. Captain America not being that into America.

These few examples aren’t the only ones, either. Among many other instances, last April the venerable Archie Comics announced they were adding a gay character and back in 2007 movie makers announced that they intended to remove all mentions of the U.S. military from G.I. Joe (they later relented to a degree).

It all adds up to a PCing of the American comic book industry that has been going on for far too long.

Yes, you see that bold.  Huston equates Batman recruiting a Muslim character to join his crusade along the likes of having ONE gay character in your comic book.  These are both injustices in Huston’s world and to conservatives as a whole.  Gays, Islam, especially in a positive light, are taboo.  Both should not be mentioned, in hopes they’ll go away.

What Huston isn’t saying is, he dislikes anything that doesn’t espouse his conservative views.  God forbid a character is Muslim.  Let alone an Algerian Muslim in France.  Huston also seems to forget France has a tradition of riots.  I’m pretty sure all of them weren’t by Muslims.  The comic book is written by a British writer.  Who I’m going to guess has a better perspective on European affairs than an American conservative blogger.

But that’s the issue with the right, they feel their view shouldn’t just be the view of America but also the world.

The right as a whole has an issue with Muslims in comic books.  This is just another salvo to them and another example of comics reflecting the very real multi-cultural and connected world.

Batman turns to a man that he helped police arrest earlier in part one. When first encountered the young man was dressed in a skin-tight, black costume and sported a facemask. Batman arrested him when this man tried to involve himself in some rioting. Batman didn’t know the young masked man was actually trying to stop the riot but later learns of his good intentions

So the comic mentions riots?  Did I just read Huston’s own commentary right?  So Huston is angry that it shows a Muslim in a positive light?  Is that the issue?  But lets look at the most idiotic of statements.

You see, DC Comics has decided that the “French savior,” the French Batman is to be a Muslim immigrant.

What’s the issue here?  Can’t a person protect their adoptive country?  Why must every “national hero” be native born and bred?  Is it the issue he’s a Muslim?  He’s an immigrant?  He’s a Muslim immigrant?  If it’s the religion, that’s pure bigotry.  If it’s the fact he’s an immigrant, then I sure hope every American super hero is Native American.

As blog Death and Taxes points out.

Nightrunner illustrates the natural inclusion of a very real group: Muslims make up about 6% of the population, and an estimated 1.5 million of those people hail from Algeria, a country France occupied for over a century.

So really the story is about a young man who’s people were occupied by a nation rising up to defend that nation.  This is a bad thing?

What’s comical is Huston’s other targets.  He clearly dislikes gays, why then even mention Archie?  If comics are a reflection of the real world as Huston wants by acknowledging French/Muslim tensions, then surely one gay must exist in the world of Archie?  But no, one is too many for Huston.

He also cites Larfleeze, the Orange Lantern.

But it isn’t surprising for DC, a comic book company that has a character whose creator based it on “corporate greed.”

I can’t say I agree with that interpretation.  He represents GREED, period.  Drop that word “corporate” from there.  I’m pretty sure the Bible mentions it as a sin.  So, is that now PC too?  The concept of the various Lantern Corps.’s powers is based on emotions.  In Larfleeze’s case the Orange Lantern is powered by avarice.

insatiable greed for riches; inordinate, miserly desire to gain and hoard wealth.

And as expected he picks and chooses quotes to attack comic books and ignores facts (and even cites the G.I. Joe movie.  I’ll repeat movie.  A movie that was a animated television show and toy before it was a comic book).

For that matter, check out the words of the director of the new 2011 Captain America movie who said that his Captain America won’t be a big “flag waver.”

If you actually hear the director speak on the topic the issue is international distribution.  A movie needs to sell overseas to be profitable.  Especially a big budget one.  By having the movie a very pro-American, jingoistic movie, the likely reception will be cool and it won’t sell well outside of the United States.  That decision is about profits and the dollar.  I thought conservatives were pro-corporations?

Huston seems to focus on these riots and the cause of them.  Sure, there’s riots caused by disaffected youths.  A simple Google search of “French riots” shows these stories.  But the bigger point is, that’s not this story.  Maybe that will be mentioned later, but that’s not the focus of what David Hine wants to tell during this issue (I haven’t read it).

Forget the riots though, that’s just a smoke screen.  Boil down Huston’s rant and it’s this.  Some Muslim youths riot.  Some of those Muslim youths are immigrants.  Those Muslim youth are bad.  Thus, all Muslims are bad.  A Muslim immigrant is really bad.  A Muslim can’t be a hero.  That is his twist if A then B logic.  If it’s not, then why can’t he support one character rising above the “bad influences” around him and doing good?  I’m sure he or she can, as long as they’re not Muslim.

Muslim Hating Right Now Targets Batman

Batman and Robin on MuslimsRight-wing website The Astute Bloggers has rallied the hate of the right, this time focused on Batman.  In a recent issue Batman heads to France to recruit his latest franchisee in Batman, Inc. The latest recruit just happens to be a Muslim Algerian.

From the website Alvin Greene writes:

I knew it was only going to get worse at DC Comics: in his continuing efforts to form Batman Inc, Bruce Wayne recruits an Algerian Muslim living in France, in Clichy-Sous-Bois, where the Muslim riots grew out of in 2005, over the death of 2 delinquents who electrocuted themselves by stupidly entering a power station, and the blame was laid upon at least 2 policemen who weren’t even at fault and didn’t even know they were there. How about that, Bruce Wayne goes to France where he hires not a genuine French boy or girl with a real sense of justice, but rather, an “oppressed” minority who adheres to the Religion of Peace.

The blogger claims this is a sign of DC’ Comics’ false conservative credentials and that the comic book publisher is going down hill.

The blog says it promotes “Universal Human Rights.”  I guess those rights doesn’t include anyone being able to grow up and be Batman.

This comes on the heals of general hate from the right when it comes to Muslims in comic books.  The previous target was the comic book series The 99.
