“Expedition” takes place before the events of the bestselling Fight Club novel and is an origin story of Tyler Durden. Hand-numbered copies of the single LP vinyl are available for pre-order now for a limited time for $30.00 via RareLit Bird and an exclusive San Diego Comic Con Rare Bird Lit San Diego Comic Con Variant Vinyl Audiobook will be sold at the Random House booth at San Diego Comic Con from July 8th through the 12th.

FIGHT CLUB 2 takes place ten years after the events of the bestselling novel. Tyler Durden lives… a mundane life. A kid, a wife. Pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long, the wife has seen to that. The time has come . . . Rize or Die.

Review: Fight Club 2 #1

Fight Club 2 #1 CoverIt’s time to break the first two rules of FIGHT CLUB. Ten years after starting Project Mayhem, Tyler Durden lives… a mundane life. A kid, a wife. Pills to keep his destiny at bay. But it won’t last long, the wife has seen to that. The time has come . . . Rize or Die.

I’m a huge fan of Fight Club, and thankfully novelist Chuck Palahniuk has returned to the world of Tyler Durden joined by artist Cameron Stewart, colorist by Dave Stewart, and covers by David Mack with Fight Club 2 from Dark Horse.

Its been almost 20 years since Fight Club was released as a novel (which was followed by the movie three years later). A lot has changed in that twenty years. The series picks up with the rather boring, stereotypical life. One where domestic “bliss” hides deep urges, both in him and his wife. Take the original Fight Club‘s look at arrested twenty-something development, and consumer slavery, and move it to the burbs, you have this comic follow-up.

Much like the movie, the comic relies heavily on visuals. Pills jump off the page, breaking the layout of the page. What’s shown is as important, if not more so, than what’s said. Especially since what’s shown at times actually covers up what’s side. Think the quick visual splices in the movie, and apply that to the comic page.

The combination of story and visuals blew me away in a first issue that exceeds expectations. I was a bit iffy going in honestly, and came out completely blown away by what I read and saw, so much so that I wish this was being released as a graphic novel so I could read it all at once.

Going in, I was nervous, but Fight Club 2 was one of my most anticipated books for 2015. Coming out, it’s now one of my favorite books to debut this year. The first issue is out May 27, definitely give this one a try.
