Spyfall 2 Gets a Release by Cryptozoic

spyfall-2-2Cryptozoic Entertainment has released the card game Spyfall 2. Developed by leading Russian game publisher Hobby World, the sequel to the hit 2015 social deduction party game will come to the U.S. courtesy of Cryptozoic.

The first Spyfall was a hit with fans and critics alike. In 2014, it won “Best Party Game” from The Dice Tower Gaming Awards and was nominated for “Best Party Game” and “Best Innovative Board Game” from BoardGameGeek’s Golden Geek Awards. In 2015, it won a “Major Fun Award,” which is given to games that are “adaptable, enjoyable, quality products.” In addition, it received the Recommended Award in 2016 from the jury of the Spiel des Jahres, the prestigious German award for tabletop games.

Spyfall 2 expands the first game, featuring 3-12 player capability, up to two spies, and 20 new locations. It is a standalone expansion, meaning players can play it by itself or combine it with the first Spyfall to make the experience even more complex and challenging. The game’s 20 new wacky locations include the Retirement Home, Candy Factory, and Prison. Players who get location cards also receive suggested roles for those locations that they can utilize for added fun. Whereas the first game only allowed for one spy and a maximum of eight players, the sequel increases the possibilities with up to two spies and 12 players.

During play, all players receive secret location cards, except for the one or two players who receive spy cards instead. Players ask and answer questions to get information out of their fellow players. Non-spy players attempt to trip up the spies, while the spies try to gain enough clues to guess their location.

In each round of play, after the players receive their secret location and spy cards, they start a stopwatch that runs for a set length of time. The players then take turns asking each other questions and answering. It is a balancing act as non-spy players offer information about the current location to let the others know that they know where they are, without revealing the location to the spies. In contrast, spy players have to come up with questions and plausible answers to other players’ queries without knowing where they really are!

At the end of each round, players declare their suspicions and try to convince each other. Then, they start voting on each player’s guilt one at a time, beginning with the dealer. If enough players vote that someone is guilty, that player reveals his or her card and the voting is over. If the player is indeed a spy, the non-spies win. If the player is not a spy, the spies win. If no player is convicted after each player has been voted on, the spies win.

Spyfall 2 will be available at retailers nationwide on January 27 for a suggested retail price of $24.99.

Strengthen your power and fulfill the prophecy… the one who collects twelve Power Points saves the realm, becomes the true chosen one, and wins the game!

Rock Paper Wizard is Available Now!

rock-paper-wizard-2WizKids has announced the release of Rock Paper Wizard, a fast-paced, high-energy card game that combines strategy, luck and a wee bit of hand coordination! Rock Paper Wizard gathers some of the most iconic spells from Wizards of the Coast’s popular Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game for a spell casting challenge. The game is now available in North American retailers for $19.99.

In Rock Paper Wizard, 3 to 6 players take on the roles of wizards who must try to outwit their opponents in an epic race for loot!

Each player chooses their wizard’s spell and casts some magic by repeating one of the hand gestures found on the cards in front of them. Everyone says “Rock, Paper, Wizard” aloud, and upon saying “Wizard”, forms a hand gesture and points it towards a target. Each card describes the spell’s effect, which can push opponents towards the exit, advance themselves towards the hoard, or manipulate the coins that the wizards must collect to win.

The first wizard to collect 25 pieces of gold wins the game, but you’ll want to start right over and let the magic begin all over again!

Attack on Titan Deck-Building Game Out November 9th from Cryptozoic

attack-on-titan-deck-building-game-2Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced the November 9 release of the Attack on Titan Deck-Building Game. The 1-5 player card game is based on the hit anime series in which heroes try to protect the walls of the last remaining human city from the onslaught of giant carnivorous Titans. The game uses Cryptozoic’s popular Cerberus Engine with the addition of movement, as well as other unique gameplay features that place players inside the world of Attack on Titan. In addition, this is the first Cerberus deck-building title to offer cooperative play from the start, without requiring an expansion.

As with other Cerberus games, in the Attack on Titan Deck-Building Game there are always five areas of cards available for players to acquire at any one time. What is different is that each of these five areas represents a “District,” which is in turn protected by a Wall. Cards that the Heroes can buy are placed on the inside of the Walls, while Titans that appear are placed on the outside of the Walls.

Players become Heroes from the anime, including Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, each of whom has a unique special ability that helps the team. Along with a Hero Card, players have a Hero standee, since movement is a factor in the game, as utilized through cards with movement values. Players must move Heroes from District to District to buy needed cards, such as Ally, Equipment, Location, and Maneuver Cards. When they’re ready, Heroes can be moved over Walls to fight off Titans or protect Walls from being destroyed.

The Titans appear out of the main deck in the game, coming into play at semi-regular intervals. Archenemy Titans—like the fan-favorite Colossal Titan—usually require the whole team to combat since they have Hit Points. When players attempt a kill shot on an Archenemy Titan, it lashes out with a Titans on Attack Card, causing an unexpected event that might hamper a team’s ability to get the kill or make it a very costly victory. There are 10 different Archenemy Titans, making the four that appear during any play session very unpredictable. These Titans are broken up into levels, so the later they appear, the stronger they are. As a result, players need to focus on building a stronger deck—making their characters stronger—to have a chance to defeat them.

To win, players must defeat all four Archenemy Titans. They lose if the main deck runs out of cards, all five Walls fall down, or two Heroes die (three Heroes in a 2-3 player game).

The Attack on Titan Deck-Building Game will be available at retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $39.99. The game gives fans a chance to relive the adventures of Season 1 in a complex deck-building experience before the premiere of Season 2 in 2017.
