Get ready for Black Adam with the Justice Society Files

The hierarchy of power in the DC Extended Universe changes on October 21, as Warner Bros Pictures highly anticipated film Black Adam debuts exclusively in theaters.

After 5000 years of imprisonment, Black Adam is ready to impose his unique version of order on the modern world. The only thing standing in his way are the heroes of The Justice Society – Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Cyclone and Atom Smasher.

In the months leading to the films’ release, fans will want to learn all they can about these DC Super Heroes, as well as Teth-Adam, the man who becomes Black Adam, and DC will be on hand to provide that knowledge with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files.

Black Adam – The Justice Society Files are a series of one-shot comic books profiling the members of The Justice Society, their backgrounds, and connections to Black Adam, leading up to the movie. Each issue features a main story by writer Cavan Scott, plus a backup story by Bryan Q. Miller charting the path of Teth-Adam, from slave, to prisoner, to becoming the titular antihero.

The excitement kicks off Tuesday, July 5 with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Hawkman #1, on sale at comic book shops and participating digital retailers. Scott is joined by the all-star team of Scot Eaton (penciller), Norm Rapmund (inker) and Andrew Dalhouse (colorist) in this tale of Hawkman, an archeologist who is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince and the leader of the Justice Society.

On August 2, Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Cyclone #1 places DC’s human whirlwind center stage in a story by Cavan Scott, with art by Maria Laura Sanapo and Arif Prianto. Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Atom Smasher #1 spotlights the size-changing powerhouse of The Justice Society on September 6, written by Scott with art by Travis Mercer and John Kalisz. The series of one-shots concludes October 4 with Black Adam – The Justice Society Files: Doctor Fate #1, in a story by Scott with art by Jesus Merino and Ulises Arreola.

Black Adam by Christopher Priest and Rafa Sandoval with Painted Covers by Irvin Rodriguez

With a movie coming, Black Adam is getting a new comic series set to launch June 21st. Black Adam is written by Christopher Priest, with art by Rafa Sandoval, and covers by Irvin Rodriguez.

There is no forgiveness for Black Adam. This is the reality Teth-Adam, immortal man of indomitable will, must face when he discovers he has been infected with an incurable plague destroying his immortality. Haunted by the specter of centuries of dark deeds, Black Adam transfers his powers to a worthy successor who will redeem Adam’s legacy and defend their ancestral homeland of Kahndaq, only to subsequently become mystically “handcuffed” to him when Adam’s plague is arrested, giving birth to perhaps the most volatile and dysfunctional super-team in DC history!

Black Adam #1 features open to order variant covers by Rafa Sandoval, Mikel Janin, and Lucio Parrillo, a 1:25 variant by Crystal Kung, 1:50 variant by Cully Hamner, 1:100 foil variant by Lucio Parrillo, and team variant cover by Travis Mercer and Danny Miki.

The Rock Teases the Black Adam Costume in a Behind the Scenes Photo

Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, posted a behind the scenes photo of the anticipated film Black Adam. In the photo, we get a sense of scale for the film and a tease of the costume itself. Black Adam has been an interesting DC character playing both hero and villain and rival to Shazam. Expectations are the two characters will eventually clash in a future film.

In the post, Johnson wrote:

BLACK ADAM⚡️

This image of Black Adam from behind gives you a tactile sense of the absolute massive scale and size of our movie.

You also see a little of the intricate and beautiful textured detail of Black Adam’s body suit.
(this is not your typical DC or Marvel padded muscle suit)

And finally you get a glimpse of the enormous and appropriate destruction.

As we all know, superheroes have a code of justice and don’t kill the bad guys.

But, Black Adam does.

The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is changing.

Antihero.
Man in black.
Protector of his people.

Ava DuVernay’s New Gods and Games Wan’s The Trench Not Moving Forward

DC Logo

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop that Warner Bros. has shelved two of its upcoming, and high-profile, films based on DC properties. Ava DuVernay‘s New Gods and James Wan‘s The Trench are not going forward at this time.

In a statment, Warner Bros. and DC said:

As part of our DC slate, some legacy development titles including New Gods and The Trench will not be moving forward. We thank our partners Ava DuVernay, Tom King, James Wan and Peter Safran for their time and collaboration during this process and look forward to our continued partnership with them on other DC stories. The projects will remain in their skillful hands if they were to move forward in the future.

New Gods was a take on the classic Jack Kirby characters with DuVernay directing and working with comic writer Tom King. The film has been in development since 2018. DuVernay is working on the television series Naomi based on the DC character which will air on The CW.

The Trench was a spin-off from the blockbuster Aquaman. The horror-tinged film featured Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald on the script with Wan developing as producer with Peter Safran. Wan is still working on Aquaman 2 which will begin shooting later this year.

While these two projects have been shelved for now, they may happen down the road. It is believed the issue is there was no “natural” place to release the films in the current upcoming plans.

DC is currently focused on a multi-platform approach with films like The Suicide Squad and The Batman bleeding over into television with the HBO Max series Peacemaker and a show focused on the Gotham police department.

DC is still focused on creating a film universe with The Flash, tackling the DC multiverse, being key to what comes next. Upcoming films include Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and projects featuring Blue Beetle, Batgirl, Supergirl, Static Shock, and Green Lantern Corps. There’s also the third Wonder Woman film, newly announced Zatanna, and Superman film produced by J.J. Abrams and written by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Black Adam Arrives July 2022

Warner Bros., DC Comics, and Dwayne Johnson have revealed that Black Adam is coming to theaters July 29, 2022.

The film brings the classic antihero to the big screen. Johnson will play the lead Black Adam and features an impressive cast. Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, ldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Marwan Kenzari has been cast in an unknown role.

The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.
