Promising Young Woman’s Emerald Fennell Tapped to Write Zatanna

Zatanna is the next DC Comics hero to get a big-screen adaptation. Emerald Fennell has been hired to write the adaptation. Fennell is the Oscar-nominated director of Promising Young Women.

Zatanna comes from Warner Bros.’ DC Films and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and is to be released in theaters.

The is Zatanna’s first big screen appearance but the character has appeared in numerous animated releases from Warner Bros. and DC. The character also appeared on Smallville on The CW played by Serinda Swan.

Created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson, Zatanna is one of the most powerful magic users in the DC universe. She’s known for having to cast spells in statements backward, which should make for an entertaining film. The character debuted in 1964 in Hawkman #4.
