Don’t miss J. Scott Campbell’s Cover for Blood & Thunder from Benito Cereno, E.J. Su, MSassyK, and Robert Kirkman

Skybound and Image Comics have revealed the striking new variant cover by J. Scott Campbell for the all-new comic book series Blood & Thunder. From the all-star creative team of writer Benito Cereno, artist E.J. Su, colorist MSassyK, letterer Rus Wooton, and co-creator Robert Kirkman, the debut issue of the new action epic will arrive in comic book shops on May 7, 2025.

Set in a far future where Earth has integrated alien species into a new society, Blood & Thunder plays by a whole new set of rules…and a whole load of new crimes to solve.

Bounty hunter Akeldama “Blood” Bledsoe and her cantankerous talking gun, Thunder, are the best there is at bringing in the bad guys. However, when the galaxy’s most dangerous criminal breaks out of prison, Blood’s hunt delivers her down a path that will unlock secrets about her past, present, and future… and that’s when things get REALLY BAD.

Campbell’s 1:50 incentive variant cover spotlights the kinetic energy of the titular characters as they move through space and time in the megastar artist’s singular style.

In addition to the cover by J. Scott Campbell and the main cover by E.J. Su and MSassyK, the lineup of variant covers for Blood & Thunder #1 also includes an open-to-order cover by David Lopez, a 1:10 incentive variant cover by Andie Tong and Rex Lokus, a 1:25 incentive variant cover by Bernard Chang, and a blank sketch cover.

The Tick returns to comics for the first time since 2021 in an all-new issue for the Baltimore Comic-Con! Celebrate 30 years of The Tick animated series and meet creators behind this new issue!

This exciting Special Edition comic book is published by Ian Chase Nichols and Jeff McClelland, partnering with long-time Tick publisher New England Comics Press to bring you a tale originally conceived by Ben Edlund himself! This comic features “The Microbe Adventure” from Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents, Tales from the Bully Pulpit), Nichols (TMNT, TMNT/Batman, Conan), and Duane Redhead (2000AD, Teddy and the Yeti), with a backup tale by McClelland (The Illustrated Al, Planet Comics).

Writer/producer Ben Edlund created The Tick in 1986 in New England Comics Newsletter 14. The character soon found a cult following in his eponymous 1988 comic book series, the beloved 1994 Fox Kids animated series, and two live-action series, in 2001 on Fox and 2016 on Amazon Prime. Edlund and The Tick are being celebrated by the 2024 Baltimore Comic-Con, where Edlund is the show’s featured Guest of Honor.

Nichols and McClelland will also be guests of the Baltimore Comic-Con, held September 20th-22nd, where copies of the new Limited Edition Comic will be available along with sketches, signatures, books, and more.

Review – Guarding the Globe #3

Bookmark and Share

Guarding the Globe #3Wow, how many ways can I say I just didn’t enjoy this third issue.  It’s also the first of the series I’ve read, but can’t say it was enough that I’d want to go check out the first two issues.  Guarding the Globe #3 doesn’t feature the things I really enjoy about team books, likable characters with a bit of personality conflict, witty banter or a big time threat that makes it clear the world needs them.

As the Viltrumite War rages on within the pages of INVINCIBLE, the Guardians of the Globe are the last line of defense on Earth. New York is under siege, and the Guardians are called in. El Chupacabra is brought along on his first mission, but he’s hiding a dark secret that could tear the team apart! Featuring a special guest-appearance by The Astounding Wolf-Man!

What’s fascinating is with that description, I can’t say that’s what I read at all.  There were characters talking and getting to know each other.  There was a fight against some giant rock monster that I just didn’t see anything but cheesy and then there was the big reveal of the bad guys at the end.  Overall it was a big yawn.

Here I think the story by Robert Kirkman and Benito Cereno flops.  The characters aren’t likable, and the threat just isn’t to a point a team needs to come together.  This was my first issue, but can’t say it gives me much reason to check out the first two.

What If Barack Obama Was a Guardian of the Globe

It started as a mockery of Marvel’s teasers, but Image’s new series Guardians of the Globe will feature a back up story featuring the joke team of Invincible, Spawn, Rick Grimes, Barack Obama, and Gary Popper.

“The response to the Guardians of the Globe teasers was astounding,” says GUARDIANS co-writer Robert Kirkman. “So many people wanted to see a Guardians team made up of Invincible, Spawn, Rick Grimes, Barack Obama, and Gary Popper. Ask, and you will receive!”

Giarrusso states, “I’ll be featuring President Barack Obama in a comic. As far as I know, this is something that has never been done before. A move like this is bound to stir up a lot of heated controversy, but I have the opportunity to do something historically groundbreaking in these strips.”

As the Viltrumite War rages on within the pages of INVINCIBLE, the ranks of the Guardians of the Globe are suddenly depleted. The world is in danger and the team is in search of new blood. It’s the biggest recruitment drive since Omni-Man slaughtered the original members. But will it be in time to stop The Order? This series is a can’t-miss action extravaganza, with one-page backups featuring the Guardians of the Globe that never were: Invincible, Spawn, Rick Grimes, Barack Obama, and Gary Popper!

GUARDIANS OF THE GLOBE #1 (of 6) — a 32-page full-color comic written by Robert Kirkman and Benito Cereno, illustrated by Ransom Getty, and featuring a backup story by Chris Giarrusso — will be on sale for $3.50 on August 25, 2010. Giarusso’s G-MAN, VOL. 1: LEARNING TO FLY, a 96-page full-color trade paperback for $9.99, and G-MAN, VOL. 2: CAPE CRISIS, a 128-page full-color trade paperback, will both be in stores September 29, 2010.
