Fillion, Lee, Glau Among 2013 Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con Stars

Castle star Nathan Fillion, fellow Serenity and Firefly headliner Summer Glau, Eisner Award Hall of Famer Stan Lee and WWE Superstars John Cena and Daniel Bryan are at the top of a standout roster of celebrity guests scheduled to appear at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, May 30 – June 2 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It is the third in the 2013 series produced by Wizard World, Inc. and will also feature a top-drawer collection of well-known artists and writers and a variety of activities, exhibitors and special attractions.

Fillion and Lee will appear on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2; Cena is scheduled for Thursday, May 30; and Bryan will be on site on Saturday, June 1 only. Other standout celebrities attending include William Shatner, The Walking Dead duo of Michael Rooker and Norman Reedus, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Manu Bennett and many others.

Additionally, all full price attendees will receive a free copy of the Exclusive Variant Cover of The Walking Dead #1 comic, available only at Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con.

Superstar comics creators scheduled to attend include Bryan Hitch, Salvador Larroca, Leinil Yu, Howard Chaykin and Barry Kitson.

Also featured in the autograph area are the Buffy The Vampire Slayer trio of James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter and Juliet Landau, the Charmed threesome of Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs and Brian Krause, “The Fonz” Henry Winkler, “Brat Packer” Andrew McCarthy and NCIS star Lauren Holly, among dozens of popular celebrities.

British Invasion 2 Comes to Baltimore!

The Baltimore Comic-Con has announced that the British Invasion will be returning to Charm City for the second year in a row! Thus far, the convention has confirmed that Brian Bolland, Jimmy Cheung, and Roger Langridge will all be joining previous announced British Invasion guests Mark Buckingham, Dave Gibbons, and Barry Kitson for this year’s show. The show will be held on September 7-8, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center.Brian Bolland, who is best-known for his meticulously detailed line work, is one of the artists who helped define the look and feel of Judge Dredd for the British anthology series 2000 AD, and spearheaded what has become known as the “British Invasion” of the American comic industry in the early-’80s. Bolland won three Harvey Awards in 1989 for Best Artist, Best Graphic Album, and Best Single Issue for The Killing Joke. His most recent work includes covers for DC Comics’ Dial H.

Jimmy Cheung began his career in the mid-1990s at Marvel Comics, working on titles such as X- Force, Force Works, and Spider-Man Unlimited. Cheung AvX0 In 2000, he left Marvel to join the team at CrossGen Comics, heading up the art duties on one of their flagship titles, Scion. In 2005, Cheung returned to Marvel where he worked on Secret Warriors, Young Avengers, and Wolverine. Most recently, he illustrated the covers to Marvel’s big Avenger/X-Men event, Avengers vs. X-Men and Spider-Men.

Roger Langridge is a New Zealand-born cartoonist who makes his home across the pond in Britain. He got his start in comic working in the early-’90s with his Fantagraphics titles, Art d’Ecco and Zoot!, but has become known for his work on the British anthology series The Straightjacket Fits for Judge Dredd Megazine. Throughout the last ten years, Langridge has worked on several titles for both DC and Marvel, including Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight; Bizzaro World; Marvel Monsters: Fin Fang Four; and Thor: The Mighty Avenger. Most recently, he has written a drawn several Muppets books for Boom! Studios and is currently writing the Popeye mini-series for IDW.

Baltimore Comic-Con 2013 Announces First Guests!

Cho Savage Wolverine The Baltimore Comic-Con is announcing guests for next year’s show which will be held the weekend of September 7-8, 2013. The first guests to be announced include Frank Cho, Barry Kitson, Mike Mignola,Chris Samnee, and Mark Waid.

Frank Cho, who is best known for his creator-owned comic strip, Liberty Meadows, is the writer and artist working on the Marvel NOW title, Savage Wolverine. Throughout the early 2000s, while working on Liberty Meadows, Kitson Waid Empire he also provided cover art for Marvel, Image, and Dark Horse Comics working on such titles as Ultimate Spider-Man, Invincible, and Hellboy: Weird Tales. He was nominated for 3 Harvey Awards in 2006 (Best Artist, Best Cartoonist, and Best Cover Artist). He likes drawing monkeys.

British comic artist Barry Kitson broke into the industry while drawing Spider-Man for Marvel UK in 1985. Throughout his career, he has worked on such titles as Amazing Spider-Man, Legion of Superheroes, 2000 AD, Batman, and Incredible Hulks. He is currently handling art duties for Marvel’s Captain America and Iron Man.

Mignola Hellboy in Hell Mike Mignola developed his skills as an inker and penciler throughout the ’80s and ’90s, working on various titles for both Marvel and DC, including Incredible Hulk, Rocket Raccoon, and Batman. In 1994, after years of work-for-hire, he illustrated his first creator-owned story, Hellboy: The Seed of Destruction, for Dark Horse Comics. He’s won Harvey Awards in 1995, 1996, 2000, 2008, and 2010 for various categories, and is currently working on the latest Hellboy mini-series, Hellboy in Hell. Samnee Waid Daredevil

Since breaking into the industry in 2005, artist Chris Samnee has drawn comics for Marvel, DC/Vertigo, Dark Horse, IDW, and Oni Press, including Captain America & Bucky, Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps, Serenity: The Shephard’s Tale, and Queen & Country. He is currently working on Daredevil from Marvel Comics and The Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom for IDW.

Mark Waid is well known for his eight-year run as writer of the DC Comics’ title The Flash, as well as his seminal work on Kingdom Come and Superman: Birthright. In addition, Waid served as Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer of BOOM! Studios from 2007 to 2010, where he created and wrote Irredeemable and Incorruptible. In 2012, he launched and co-created thrillbent.com, an experiment in new-media publishing, as well as winning multiple Harvey Awards for his work on Daredevil. In addition to Insufferable for thrillbent.com, he is currently working on Daredevil and Indestructible Hulk from Marvel Comics and The Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom for IDW.
